Deshaun Watson to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery
Deshaun Watson will undergo season-ending surgery on a broken bone in his throwing shoulder, the Cleveland Browns announced Wednesday morning.

Fantasy Impact

Watson had an MRI on Monday on two separate injuries suffered during Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. Imaging on his left ankle revealed a high-ankle sprain, and imaging on his right shoulder revealed a fracture. He’ll have surgery to repair the shoulder injury and be placed on season-ending injured reserve. The Browns are 6-3 and firmly in the playoff hunt, and their backup quarterbacks are P.J. Walker and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Thompson-Robinson played earlier this season after flashing his potential during the preseason, but he threw three interceptions against the Ravens in Week 4. Walker has played more recently when Watson has missed time, but he too has just one touchdown pass against five interceptions through parts of five games. The Browns traded QB Josh Dobbs to the Cardinals before the start of the season, and Dobbs has subsequently been traded to the Vikings, where he is playing well. The NFL trade deadline has already passed, so the Browns will have to rely on either Walker or Thompson-Robinson or look to free agency or the waiver wire for a replacement. Carson Wentz recently signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

Pat Freiermuth expected to return for Week 11
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Friermuth, who has dealt with a hamstring injury since Week 4, is expected to make his return in Week 11 against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Impact

Freiermuth hasn’t played since Week 4; he initially tried to return after the team’s early bye week but suffered a setback and was placed on injured reserve. Freiermuth had over 700 yards last season but has just 53 in 2023 due to a combination of injury and a slow start to the year for the Steelers offense. He adds another weapon to a passing attack that has struggled all year, though his fantasy ceiling is limited as a result.

Keenan Allen (shoulder) considered day-to-day
Chargers WR Keenan Allen (shoulder) is considered day-to-day, per head coach Brandon Staley.

Fantasy Impact

Allen left Sunday’s game against the Lions in the second half briefly due to a shoulder injury. He would return and play the remainder of the game, but it is clear the injury may still linger into this week’s practice sessions. Fantasy managers will want to keep taps on his participation level heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Packers.
