This past week saw No. 6 Oklahoma lose a very close game to unranked Kansas, essentially giving the Big 12 back to the Texas Longhorns. We also now have our first CFP Rankings of the year. They look a bit different from the AP Top 25. Ohio State, Georgia, and Michigan are the top three in the CFP while the AP has Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio State ranked 1,2, and 3 respectively.
Follow along as we guide you through all the storylines, player profiles, and game previews you need this College Football season. Enjoy!
College Football Primer Week 10
Player Spotlights
Frank Harris (QB – UTSA) | 6-0, 205 (Sr.)
Last season, Harris led the Roadrunners to a Conference USA title and a No. 22 ranking in the polls. UTSA moved to the American Athletic Conference this season; not much has changed. They are currently undefeated in conference play, and it has all been done on the arm of Harris.
Coming off of a 4,000-yard passing season last year, Harris has 1,588 yards, 13 TDs, and 6 INTs. Last week versus East Carolina, he had 395 yards and 4 TDs. The reigning C-USA MVP and Southpaw thrower is 5-1 this season, with his only loss coming against Houston. He has been averaging 264 yards and 2 TDs in each game played and has the Roadrunners primed for another Bowl appearance. He profiles as someone who could light up the Senior Bowl and Combine if given the opportunity.
Kay’ron Adams (RB – UMass) | 5-10, 205 (Sr.)
You know I have to give the little guys some love in these articles, and Adams is the perfect example. A guy not many people knew about has exploded this season for the Minuteman. A transfer from Rutgers, he has been fed the rock and has come through.
Adams currently has the 4th-most plays from scrimmage in the NCAA and has amassed 926 rushing yards and 9 TDs. He has the 6th most rushing yards in the nation, and last week against Army, he ran for 234 yards and 3 TDs. He has more rushing yards, receptions, and TDs this season than his previous four years in college. At 2-7, there will be no bowl for UMass this year, but Kay’Ron has done a great job of putting his best results possible with the chances he has been given. You may not have heard the last of him.
Eric McAlister (WR – Boise State) | 6-4, 200 (Soph)
Over his last six games, McAlister has had only one game in which he didn’t eclipse at least 90 receiving yards. The sophomore WR has 788 receiving yards this season for the Broncos and the 10th-highest yards per reception in the nation (20.2). He is currently 2nd in the Mountain West in receiving.
Last week against Wyoming, McAlister had seven receptions for 160 yards and a TD. He has gone over 143 receiving yards in three of his previous six games and has been forced to be reckoned with. This week, Boise State plays the 7-1 Fresno State Bulldogs, who give up over 220 passing yards per game despite their record. Expect McAlister to be an integral part of the Bronco’s try to hop into 2nd place in the MWC.
Tanner McLachlan (TE – Arizona) | 6-5, 235 (Sr.)
You will probably get some attention when you start getting close to breaking records held by Rob Gronkowski. McLachlan, the transfer from Southern Utah, had the 2nd-most receptions by a tight end in school history last season when he hauled in 34. He is already on pace to break his own record, and if he can average four catches over the next five games, then Gronk will be looking up at him in the record books.
McLachlan has averaged almost four catches and 46 yards per game this season. He has the highest reception percentage of any tight end in the nation, catching 26 of his 30 targets. This week, Arizona welcomes in #19 UCLA. McLachlan should have plenty of opportunities this weekend vs the Bruins.
