Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Stashes
Russell Wilson (QB – DEN): 51% Rostered
The Broncos haven’t been overly impressive on offense this year, but Russell Wilson hasn’t been a problem for them, completing 67% of his passes and for fantasy finishing as atop-12 quarterback in five of his nine appearances and only finishing outside the top 18 on two occasions. What’s more is that Wilson has reestablished a rushing floor, adding an average of 25 rushing yards per game, which is the ninth-most among quarterbacks. Wilson faces the elite Browns defense in Week 12, but after that, it’s a friendlier set of fixtures against the Texans, Chargers and Lions.
Matthew Stafford (QB – LAR): 44% Rostered
Despite dealing with a thumb injury Matthew Stafford has been fine as bye week cover or as a second QB in Superflex leagues, with four top-18 performances in his last four full games. Where things can improve for Stafford is the touchdowns, which we know form a vital part of fantasy production. Since Week 1, Stafford has had just a single game with more than one passing touchdown and sooner or later that feels primed to regress positively. Stafford faces the Cardinals in Week 12 who allow the highest wide receiver catch rate in the league.
Ty Chandler (RB – MIN): 48% Rostered
Alexander Mattison is listed as questionable with a concussion for this weekend’s game against the Broncos, and while it’s possible Mattison might clear the concussion protocol in time, the Vikings elected to rest Kj Osborn before last week’s game in a similar situation in the name of player safety. Regardless of the concussion though, Ty Chandler is worth rostering as Mattison has been woefully inefficient all season and Chandler was already seeing touches before Mattison left the game. The Broncos have the worst run defense in the league, allowing more fantasy points, rushing yards and yards per carry than any other team. In Week 12 the Vikings and Chandler face a Bears side allowing more fantasy points to running backs in the receiving game than any other team.
Elijah Mitchell (RB – SF): 16% Rostered
We’re into that time of year where it’s worth considering handcuff pickups and we’ve got several to consider this week. Mitchell has barely played this season, peaking at 34% of snaps in Week 3, but we saw Mitchell be a very fantasy-viable player in this offense in both 2021 and 2022 before Christian McCaffrey‘s arrival in San Francisco. The Niners have plenty of straightforward games down the stretch with games against the Cardinals and Commanders among others, it wouldn’t be surprising to see McCaffrey get a reduced workload to keep his legs fresh for the playoffs. Mitchell isn’t a must-add, but if you have deeper benches he could be worth that stash.
Michael Carter (RB – ARI): 3% Rostered
The former New York Jets starting running back was released this week as the Jets look to give more opportunities to Breece Hall and Israel Abanikanda. Carter has struggled to rediscover the form he flashed in his rookie season, where he had five performances over 14 PPR points, but a fresh start could be what he needs. The Cardinals look to involve their running backs in the receiving game and Carter should see opportunities as this coaching staff looks to evaluate what they have as part of the ongoing rebuild. The Cardinals likely continue to be put in pass-first game scripts which could lead to opportunities for Carter.
Quentin Johnston (WR – LAC): 33% Rostered
It has been a rough start to Quentin Johnston‘s NFL career, with him looking by far the worst of the first-round receivers selected in this year’s draft, but now might be the time for Johnston to start returning some fantasy value. Johnston has seen his snaps increase for five straight weeks, and over the last two weeks he’s averaged a 90% route participation, seeing seven targets and catching his first touchdown. With Keenan Allen banged up, along with Gerald Everett missing games and Josh Palmer on injured reserve, the Chargers need Johnston to step up ahead of tough games with the Packers and Ravens. Johnston might not be worth starting just yet, but if you can afford to stash him and wait and see, then it’s a worthwhile pickup.
Jameson Williams (WR – DET): 21% Rostered
Unless you play in a league with points for blocking well, then it’s unlikely Jameson Williams has won you many points recently, picking up no more than 3.8 PPR points in his last four games. But it’s worth noting that Dan Campbell has singled Williams out for his blocking ability and talked Williams up at several opportunities, which is a big change from this off-season when everything coming out of Detroit was negative in regards to Williams. The Lions have plenty of winnable games on the horizon and if they can unleash Williams’s ceiling it could be a very explosive arrow in their bow.
Chigoziem Okonkwo (TE – TEN): 27% Rostered
It’s been a poor sophomore season for Chigoziem Okonkwo, who has failed to eclipse 35 yards in any game this season, but he also continues to earn at least one deep target per game. Sooner or later Okonkwo and Levis will get on the same page and it’ll pay off for fantasy football handsomely. This week the Titans play the Jaguars, who allow the seventh-most fantasy points to the position and give up the second-highest yards per reception to tight ends. On paper, this could be the week and if it is, it might just be the turning point for Okonkwo.
Jacksonville Jaguars D/ST: 50% Rostered
The Jaguars defense rank fifth-best in Defensive DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average), and were scoring an average of 11.4 points for fantasy over the five games before their bye week. Coming out of the bye week they had a poor performance against the Niners, which seems excusable, but now face games against Will Levis this week, before playing Jake Browning in Week 13 and Dorian Thompson-Robinson in Week 14. This defense can carry you the rest of the way.
New England Patriots D/ST: 26% Rostered
The Patriots have been a poor team all round this year and their defensive regression has been disappointing, but in Week 12, they play the Tommy DeVito-led New York Giants, and that game alone could be worth stashing their defense for.
