Welcome to Sleeper Picks. Sleeper’s newest offering promised plenty of entertainment and action, and they delivered. We will break down our top three picks for tonight’s NBA action. Sleeper is quickly becoming one of the most popular season-long fantasy platforms, and they are expanding into other areas based on demand. Each week in this space, we’ll talk about some strategy for the new platform while providing our favorite NBA more/less picks.
NBA Sleeper Picks Player Predictions (10/25)
O.G. Anunoby (G/F – TOR): 1.5 steals + blocks
I was perusing O.G. Anunoby’s lines for his points total and also to take a quick look at the steals total. The points were high enough not to offer value on either side, but the steals total has some value. That made me decide to take a look at the steals + blocks (or StOcks), which, surprisingly, is also set at 1.5. This is an immediate lock. The value here is apparent even without gleaning into the stats. For those unfamiliar with the All-NBA defensive first-team stalwart, OG recorded at least two StOcks in 51/67 games played. He had three streaks of at least 11 consecutive games with at least two StOcks and one streak that saw him go 24 straight. He could be off of your radar due to playing north of the border, but 1.5 StOcks will be an easy smash all season. With that said, I would be surprised if this is listed at 1.5 much more in the future, if at all. Lock in the More on OG for the Toronto Raptors opening night.
Pick: More
Jordan Poole (G – WAS): 23.5 points
It’s my ball, and I can shoot if I want to, shoot if I want to, shoot if I want to. This will likely be the theme song playing in Jordan Poole’s head this season as he finally has the green light to let it rip whenever he so desires. He was doing this without the go-ahead while playing alongside Hall of Famers anyway, so in Washington, where he is the clear lead on offense, he may just chuck it up 30 times a game. Poole will likely average close to 26 points per game this season and should have free reign on opening night for the Wizards. The value is at 23.5, so if the number is higher by the time you read this and open your app, take a pass.
Pick: More
Tyrese Haliburton (G – IND): 2.5 threes
I was hoping for 1.5, but with the work Haliburton likely put in on improving his three point shot, likely to show up on opening night for the Pacers, this is still a total that has some intrigue. It is not exactly value-laden based on past trends and will likely sit here for most, if not all, of the season. The trends suggest that the under where the value is as Haliburton managed three or more threes in just 28 of his 56 games played. However, head-to-head data shows us that Haliburton recorded three plus three pointers in all four games he played against Washinton last season. He drained three on three separate occasions while dropping five in the other. And with Jordan Poole on the other side likely to be bombs away all night, Haliburton is a safe bet for six-plus attempts from deep. Tap the More on Haliburton for Pacers opening night.
Writers note: The lines are constantly changing on Sleeper, so there is a high probability that one or all of the numbers may no longer be the same when you open your app. There are excellent values when they are first posted, with the only catch being that they are not all released at the same time. Vigilance could provide a solid return on investment this season, literally.
