Top 8 Injuries To Know for Week 7 Waiver Wire (2023 Fantasy Football)

Week 6 brought a lot of injuries to note in fantasy football leagues. If you survived without a blemish, consider yourself lucky. If you lost a starter, look to replace them with some of the guys mentioned below.

As always, the early part of the week leads to a lot of estimation and educated guessing. Practice reports are always the most solid information we have leading up to Sunday. Monitor those reports if you have any of the players listed here.

Injuries To Know for Week 7 Waiver Wire

Christian McCaffrey (RB – SF)

McCaffrey suffered an oblique injury against the Browns. He returned to the game but was unable to play and quickly went to the locker room. Since he attempted to play, we can assume the injury is relatively. We should also consider the fact that the 49ers may want to be cautious with the stud RB, and will want to wait until he’s healthy before putting him on the field. Estimating he misses 1-3 weeks with this injury, which leaves Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason to pick up the slack.

Waiver considerations: Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason

David Montgomery (RB – DET)

Montgomery seems to have suffered a rib cartilage injury. This is an injury that’s tough for a RB, as it will be a weak spot until it’s fully healed. With the Lions having a bye in 2 weeks, I wouldn’t be surprised if they shut him down until after the bye eyeing a week 10 return. If he misses time, Jahmyr Gibbs is in a great position for a break out, and Craig Reynolds is a good waiver pick up as he will have an increased role.

Waiver considerations: Craig Reynolds

Kyren Williams (RB – LAR)

William suffered an ankle injury at the end of the game on Sunday. It is unclear if he suffered a low ankle sprain (generally 1-3 week absence), or a high ankle sprain (3-5 week absence), but either way he is expected to miss some time. Ronnie Rivers also suffered an injury in this game, which is speculated to be a PCL injury, which will sideline him indefinitely. This leaves Zach Evans as the incumbent starting RB, on what appears to be a pretty high powered offense due to the return of Cooper Kupp. He will be a popular waiver add this week.

Waiver considerations: Zach Evans

Justin Fields (QB – CHI)

Fields suffered a thumb dislocation in Sunday’s game and did not return. Fields has already been ruled as doubtful for week 7. How much time he misses will depend on how much ligament damage is present and how much swelling there is. If there is minimal damage, there’s a chance he will only miss 1 week, but if there is significant damage, surgery may be considered. Although I expect Fields will attempt to forego surgery since he is playing for his job. Bears WRs (DJ Moore) are significantly downgraded without Fields under center.

Waiver considerations: None

Deebo Samuel (WR – SF)

Deebo suffered what appeared to be a mild AC joint injury. X-rays were negative and he is already listed as day to day, I expect he will play next week. If he misses, the other receivers including Aiyuk, Jennings, and Bell are slightly upgraded, but I wouldn’t waste a waiver or FAAB on Jennings/Bell

Waiver considerations: None

Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAC)

Suffered a “minor knee sprain” during Sunday’s game. Due to the quick turnaround for a Thursday game, I do not expect Lawrence to suit up. He was estimated as a non-participant in practice today putting his status into significant doubt. Their backup QB is Cj Beathard and may be in play if you’re desperate in a 2 QB league.

Waiver considerations: CJ Beathard in the deepest of 2 QB leagues.

Jimmy Garoppolo (QB – LV)

There hasn’t been too much information on Jimmy G Monday, who suffered a lower back injury and was subsequently taken to the hospital for testing. The team stated that the prognosis is a lot better than what it could have been, and that he dodged a bullet. Either way, I expect that he either plays this week, or the week after. If he misses time Brian Hoyer will likely start at QB.

Waiver considerations: None

Ryan Tannehill (QB – TEN)

Suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday’s game. Players with high ankle sprain typically return in 4-6 weeks, although since Tannehill is a pocket passing QB, his timeline could be slightly sped up to 3-4 weeks. Malik Willis took over for Tannehill when he got injured, but both he and Will Levis are worth a flyer specifically in dynasty leagues.

Waiver considerations: Willis/Levis in dynasty leagues
