Rival Fantasy NFL: Week 7

Challenges

Week 6 was K.J. Osborn vs. Jordan Addison, and while both players were massive disappointments for a struggling Minnesota Vikings team, Osborn finished the game with more production. For Week 7, we are going to pivot away from teammate battles and instead go with two players who will be meeting in an exciting head-to-head battle of two alpha receivers but also of two teams that could meet in this year’s Super Bowl. Tyreek Hill vs. A.J. Brown is going to be a fun challenge, but also just plain old fun to watch as a football fan. You can be sure that former teammates Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa will try to make their guy come out on top, and we could also see another mini-battle going on between Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith, both of whom played with Tua and Jalen at Alabama.

Tyreek Hill has been sensational this season. He is averaging 135.7 receiving yards per game off of seven receptions per contest. He leads the NFL with 814 receiving yards and 19.4 yards per catch. He will have a tough task against Darius Slay in coverage, but with Waddle on the other side of the field, we may see Slay focus on one side of the field instead of trying to shadow someone like Hill, who is put in motion frequently anyway. It is always a surprise when Hill doesn’t record at least 100 receiving yards. For as much as is made about the Eagles defense, they have allowed four of the five number one receivers they have faced this season to record at least eight receptions and 86 receiving yards.

A.J. Brown has been on fire. He has recorded 120 or more receiving yards in four straight games and has catapulted his season average to 112 receiving yards with a healthy seven receptions per game in the process. Hurts has been feeding Brown ever since he went squeaky wheel against Minnesota and will likely continue to do so this week, regardless of who is in coverage. Jalen Ramsey has returned to practice for the Dolphins but, at this point, is not expected to make his return this weekend. That means that the Eagles will be targeting Kader Kohou in coverage early and often. Xavien Howard prefers to shadow top receivers, but if Ramsey remains out, Kohou will be sought out, whether it is Brown, Devonta, or even Olamide Zaccheaus or Julio Jones running routes against him. Luckily, Devonta is good enough that Howard may just choose a side while the team plays a deep safety look to limit explosives. I will choose Brown this week since he averages fewer receiving yards per game and has the quarterback who has struggled more this season.

Fantasy Bingo

Week 6 was another tough one. It is looking more and more like I got lucky with my early season Fantasy Bingo win. The closest I came to a win this week was again the corner square, but I did not get more than two achievements on any of the corner squares for Week 6. This week, there is only one corner that looks like it has the chance. That corner has more than 100 rushing yards (RB), more than 100 receiving yards (WR), more than three total TDs (WR), and more than 200 passing yards (QB). This seems like one of the more doable corner squares in the last few weeks, but the way my roster is built, I am less confident than when I had more difficult tasks on my card.

Difficult achievements included on my cards this week include two TDs rushing + one receiving TD + one passing TD (RB), three passing TDs in the second quarter (QB), one rushing TD in the second quarter (WR), 25 rushing yards (TE), 90 receiving yards (RB), zero field goals made (K), more than 50 rushing yards (WR), one rushing TD and two receiving TDs (RB), 500 total yards (QB), 100 rushing yards (QB), five field goals made (K), two receiving TDs in the fourth quarter (RB), one rushing TD in the fourth quarter (WR), three field goals missed (K), more than three sacks (QB), more than four passing TDs in the third quarter (QB), and more than four passing TDs in the fourth quarter (QB). These, of course, are not the only challenging achievements, as there are oddly specific achievements like the three passing TDs in the second quarter littered across the skill positions. There are also more doable but far from a sure thing achievements like 125 receiving yards (TE), 150 receiving yards (WR), and two TDs rushing plus one receiving (RB).

I had to overhaul my roster this week due to injuries and a heavy bye week. The only constant is Justin Tucker, who I keep plugged in for the long field goal achievements. The rest of my roster for Week 7 is Patrick Mahomes, Raheem Mostert, Bijan Robinson, Tyreek Hill, Cooper Kupp, T.J. Hockenson, and Isiah Pacheco. Kupp and Mostert return from last week, while Bijan and Pacheco were selected due to matchups. I selected Hockenson over Kelce because Kelce is more of a threat to go over the six to nine receptions that seems to pop up on my Fantasy Bingo card every week for the tight end position. This is the first week that the running back position has me worried in terms of being able to get some of the achievements. We will see how it goes this weekend and re-evaluate next week. Good luck to all on your Fantasy Bingo cards for Week 7!
