Rival Fantasy NFL: Week 6

Challenges

Last week’s challenge hit a major obstacle, with Anthony Richardson being knocked out of the game. The challenge was, of course, created for the Michael Pittman side to win, but Downs, who had been impressing over the first four weeks, started stringing together big plays with Gardner Minshew under center. Downs finished the day with six receptions for 97 receiving yards, while Michael Pittman finished with five receptions for 52 receiving yards.

For this week’s challenge, we will go back to Minnesota for another K.J. Osborn vs. Jordan Addison challenge. I thought about Brandon Powell against Jordan Addison, but I am really interested to see if the reports that Osborn will take on the Jefferson role over the more similar Addison are really true.

K.J. Osborn is expected, at least by beat writers, to take on the Jefferson role due to his superior scheme familiarity and cross-training at different positions for an extra season. He has been solid this season with averages of 5.2 targets, 2.6 receptions, 33 receiving yards, and 46 air yards, but he was fourth on the team with a 13.3 percent target share. Addison was ahead of him in each of those categories, coming into Week 6 with averages of 5.8 targets, 3.8 receptions, 50 receiving yards, 71 air yards, and a 14.9 percent target share.

There is no way to tell who will really step up as the number two behind T.J. Hockenson, but if the reports are to be believed, it will be Osborn. I think Addison has an excellent chance at seeing some of the Jefferson routes, especially the shorter patterns, while Brandon Powell will also steal some targets. I will choose Addison this week as he is the player who saw more air yards with Jefferson out, even if Osborn and Addison finished Week 5 with an identical nine targets.

Fantasy Bingo

Week 5 was a tough one. I had as many as seven achievements on one card but none in the right pattern for a win. The closest I came to a win came on my third card, where I was a touchdown rushing and passing (QB) and 200 total yards (RB) away from a corner square. Justin Fields went bonkers passing and did not find the end zone with his legs. At the running back position, no player hit 200 total yards. A few came close, including Breece Hall, who I had rostered, who went for 194 total yards from scrimmage. This week, it once again appears that my best chance at a win will come from a corner square. There are actually two to monitor this week. On my third card, there is a square that requires more than one total TD (TE), more than 150 receiving yards (WR), 100 rushing yards + more than five receptions (RB), and more than 80 rushing yards (RB). The other corner I will be monitoring is two rushing TDs (QB), six to nine receptions (TE), more than 100 rushing yards + more than five receptions (RB), with the toughest one being more than two rushing TDs (WR). This one is only on the radar because Devon Achane is on IR, which may lead to more rushing opportunities for Tyreek Hill. Similar to last week, there were some other corners that looked like they had a chance, but most were blocked by uncontrollable achievements like field goals missed or fumbles.

Difficult achievements included on my cards this week include two TDs rushing + one receiving TD + one passing TD (RB), three passing TDs in the second quarter (QB), one rushing TD in the second quarter (WR), 25 rushing yards (TE), 90 receiving yards (RB), zero field goals made (K), more than 50 rushing yards (WR), one rushing TD and two receiving TDs (RB), 500 total yards (QB), 100 rushing yards (QB), five field goals made (K), two receiving TDs in the fourth quarter (RB), one rushing TD in the fourth quarter (WR), three field goals missed (K), more than three sacks (QB), and more than four passing TDs in the fourth quarter (QB). These, of course, are not the only challenging achievements, as there are oddly specific achievements like the three passing TDs in the second quarter littered across the skill positions. There are also more doable but far from a sure thing achievements like 125 receiving yards (TE), 150 receiving yards (WR), and two TDs rushing plus one receiving (RB).

I stuck to the three running back and two wide receiver build this week but once again made some adjustments. I replaced Justin Fields at QB as he no longer has a cake matchup to exploit. I instead tapped another running QB in Josh Allen, who is facing off against the lowly New York Giants. I had to switch out Travis Kelce since he is questionable and plays on Thursday night, so I tapped T.J. Hockenson, who should be just as busy with Justin Jefferson landing on IR. The other new additions are Cooper Kupp and Raheem Mostert over Jefferson and Breece Hall, respectively. Good luck to all on your bingo cards this week!
