Recommending GPP players is one of the toughest tasks I have. What can be particularly frustrating is that many of these players won’t work out, but that’s just the nature of a GPP. You have to take some risks to differentiate yourself from the rest of the field. Finding a good balance between solid production and low ownership is key when talking about GPP players, so let’s get into the ones we like for Week 5!

The players below are ones I’m looking at for GPP considerations for Week 5:
DraftKings Quarterbacks
Daniel Jones (QB – NYG): $5,800 at MIA
It wouldn’t be a GPP article if we didn’t start with a player who everyone hates. The whole world watched Jones get destroyed by the Seahawks on Monday Night, but I actually thought he did okay, considering how bad his offensive line played. Jones still showcased a 34-point upside just two weeks ago, and that sort of line is why he’s an interesting GPP play against Miami. Not only will DJ have to play catch-up all game, but the Dolphins have a 30th OPRK against opposing quarterbacks.
Matthew Stafford (QB – LAR): $5,800 vs. PHI
We had Stafford in our smash starts article, and it’s because of his role. This guy is second in passing yards while leading the league in pass attempts! The touchdowns are the only thing holding him back, but a matchup with Philly could change that. The Eagles are allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, and Stafford will have to score to keep up with that elite Eagles offense.
FanDuel Quarterbacks
C.J. Stroud (QB – HOU): $7,200 at ATL
This rookie has looked amazing in his debut season. Stroud has scored at least 21 FanDuel points in three straight outings, and not many signal-callers have done that all season! That makes it hard to believe that he’s barely cracking $7K, especially against Atlanta. The Falcons have a 15th OPRK against opposing quarterbacks and are only that good because of some easy matchups.
Joe Burrow (QB – SEA): $7,000 at ARI
Nobody is going to want to use Burrow, but it’s easy to understand why. This guy has looked terrible in the opening month, but we have to believe he’ll get going sooner rather than later. Burrow has been a top-5 quarterback throughout his career and is now outside the top-10 in terms of salary! A matchup with Arizona is a good way to kickstart Burrow, as the team has a 27th OPRK against opposing signal-callers.
DraftKings Running Backs
Breece Hall (RB – NYJ): $5,400 at DEN
Hall has been limited in his return from ACL surgery, but he’s looked awesome in that diminished workload. The sophomore is one of the league-leaders with 6.6 yards per carry, which would look fluky if he didn’t have 5.8 yards per carry last year. The Jets have also said they need to get Hall more touches going forward, and that’s bad news for Denver. The Broncos are allowing the most fantasy points to opposing backs this season, making Hall the perfect play!
Gus Edwards (RB – BAL): $5,000 at PIT
We’ve been trying to figure out who would be Baltimore’s lead back once JK Dobbins went down, and it’s starting to look like Gus. Edwards has seen his carries increase in all four games this year, culminating in 15 carries in Week 4. That’s the workload you want from a $5K player, especially since Pittsburgh is allowing the fourth-most rushing yards in the NFL.
FanDuel Running Backs
James Conner (RB – ARI): $6,500 vs. CIN
Conner is always overlooked, and it’s hard to understand why. He’s been a top-8 running back since joining Arizona three years ago but is always priced around many of the backups. He is the workhorse back for this team, scoring at least 17 FanDuel points in two of the last three games. It’s not like Cincy is a scary matchup, surrendering 5.1 yards per carry, the third-worst mark in the NFL.
Samaje Perine (RB – DEN): $5,400 vs. NYJ
Everyone is excited about Jaleel McLaughlin, but people are forgetting about Perine! While McLaughlin looks like the more explosive back, I’d be shocked if Perine doesn’t get the bulk of the carries if Javonte Williams is out. He led all backs in snaps last week and scored at least 17 FanDuel points during the three games in which he played at least 42 snaps last season. With so many people pivoting to McLaughlin, Perine is the much better GPP play.
DraftKings Wide Receivers
Marquise Brown (WR – ARI): $5,000 vs. CIN
The Cardinals felt comfortable getting rid of DeAndre Hopkins, and it’s easy to understand why when watching Brown. This speedster has been incredible since Hop was moved, flirting with a 25% team target share since then. He’s gotten 27 targets over the last three games, scoring at least 17 DraftKings points in all of those. That’s what you expect from a top wideout, but not from a $5K player!
Skyy Moore (WR – KC): $4,400 at MIN
Woof! This one could be ugly, but somebody has to step up for the Chiefs here. We’ll bet on Moore because he leads all KC wide receivers in snaps this year. He hasn’t done much with that, but getting the number-one receiver for the best quarterback at $4,400 is an excellent GPP opportunity. Minnesota is surrendering the most fantasy points to opposing wideouts this season as well.
FanDuel Wide Receivers
DeAndre Hopkins (WR – TEN): $6,900 at IND
It’s been a tough start for D-Hop, but seeing him below $7K on FanDuel is wild. This guy is usually at least $1,000 more, and he’s still the top target in this offense. Hopkins leads the team with 18 catches for 216 yards, which is nearly double the player in second! We know this former Pro Bowler can go nuts, and a matchup with Indy could get him going. The Colts also have a 24th OPRK against opposing wide receivers this season.
Rashee Rice (WR – KC): $5,000 at MIN
We just talked about how Moore has played the most snaps of the Chiefs receivers, but Rice has been the most productive. This rookie has scored at least 8.4 FD points twice this year, and they need to get him more involved. He has the ability to break out in this elite offense, and facing the worst secondary in the league is a great way to showcase that talent!
DraftKings Tight Ends
Dallas Goedert (TE – PHI): $4,200 at LAR
It’s so weird to see Goedert sitting at just $4,200. He’s definitely earned it, with some horrible numbers this year, but he will get better! He has been a perennial top-10 tight end every season, and it’s worth taking a shot on him at this diminished price tag. Philly that they need to get him more involved this week, and we don’t mind that LA allows the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends.
FanDuel Tight Ends
Darren Waller (TE – NYG): $6,100 at MIA
Speaking of struggling tight ends! Waller has been rough with the Giants, but he’s been a top-3 tight end in fantasy points per game over the last four years. That’s why the Giants signed him, and he’ll eventually lead their offense behind his team-high target share. This is a game where New York will have to throw to keep up with Miami, and it could be a good opportunity for Waller with the Dolphins allowing the seventh-most passing yards in the NFL.
DraftKings Defense/Special Teams
New England Patriots D/ST: $3,100 vs. NOS
New England’s offense is atrocious, but this defensive unit is as good as ever. They haven’t been able to showcase it much because of the weak offense, but they were a top-5 D/ST before facing Dallas last week. That makes them a good value at just $3K, especially since they face a New Orleans team that committed three turnovers while compiling fewer than 200 yards last week!
FanDuel Defense/Special Teams
Pittsburgh Steelers D/ST: $3,900 vs. BAL
Everyone will use Baltimore in this spot, but Pittsburgh is an interesting pivot. The odds tell you everything you need to know, because the Ravens are just a 2.5-point road favorite in a game with a 38-point total. That makes this the lowest projected game of the week, with Baltimore’s implied total at just 20 points. That’s no surprise since Pittsburgh is leading all D/STs on this slate with 10 FanDuel points per game!
