NFL DFS Week 5 Stacking Advice

This article will break down stacks to use within tournaments (GPPs) and cash games to let you walk away from Week 5 with extra money in your pocket. Let’s begin with the highest implied total on the Kansas City and Minnesota matchup.
NFL DFS Week 5 Stacking Advice
Were you thinking I was going to write about Patrick Mahomes here? Why would I waste your time? Mahomes is great and we all know that. Instead, let’s discuss the Vikings.
In DFS, if your quarterback has a terrible defense, he usually has to throw the ball more to keep up. That is what we have here with Cousins in one of the highest implied totals of the week. We also don’t have to worry about the weather inside a dome. Our only issue is facing a solid defense in Kansas City. However, since the Viking’s defense is woeful at best, Cousins will have to throw to keep his team in the game and should efficiently produce in a shootout.
One of the best rules in DFS is to fade the “favorite” quarterback in a game that has a spread between 4-6.5 points due to rostership and leverage the field by switching sides and attacking the quarterback from the opposite sideline. Do that with Cousins, and build upon it by stacking Hockenson.
Again, you thought the tight end we would discuss was Travis Kelce? Once again, he is excellent, but we can save some money, rostership percentage and build leverage with Hockenson. We still get a solid production profile while facing a defense that allows the sixth most receptions to the tight end. The Chiefs also allow the ninth most yards and ninth most fantasy points per game to the position. Hockenson will help your lineups cash this weekend.
We are still working on this game because we have a cheaper passing option to attach to Mahomes. His name is Rashee Rice. With Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney leading the way with salary, we can lean on Rice, who saw five targets last game. He was second in targets, only behind Kelce last week. Rice has also seen five or more targets in every game but one this season.
Usually, I like to fade the biggest game of the week. Sometimes, you must “eat chalk” when the situation demands it. Take advantage of this game for the sake of your wallet.
Breece Hall + New York Jets Defense (RB + DEF NYJ)
Hall has 72.4% of his yards this season on explosive runs and is coming into a matchup facing the Broncos’ league-worst run defense. One of the Broncos’ most prominent issues is explosive run rate. They allow an explosive run on 48.9% of attempts this season.
Hall’s pricing is cheap and his coach came out this week and said the handcuffs are off. If Hall doesn’t have a snap count against him while facing the worst run defense in the league, you will profit. When it comes to running backs, playing the best matchups is always an intelligent way to go, especially when it’s a close underdog due to the pass-catching opportunities involved (The NY Jets are +2.5 on DraftKings).
As for the Jets’ defense, Denver QB Russell Wilson, outside of a Hail-Mary completion, has been average at best and can be turnover prone. The Jets are a formidable opponent, and you can follow two rules of DFS while using this combination in your lineups.
The first rule is to combine your running back with your defense to play into your predictive game script.
The second rule is to pick a defense different from the highest rostered. Also, make sure the defense you choose has the opportunity to lead most of the game, will give up moderate points and can create pressure and sacks to lead to turnovers.
Michael Thomas + New Orleans Saints Defense (WR + DEF NO)
Let’s get the defense out of the way first. We follow the same rule as above in this Saints/Patriots game. The Saints have a strong defense. The Patriots can score moderate but not ceiling-level points against the team and the Saints can create turnovers with pressure and sacks. The Saints’ defense should be low-owned, allowing you to create ultimate and unique leverage against the field.
Now, let’s talk about Thomas. He is a cheaper option in the offense and won’t be overused by the field in Week 5. One thing about Thomas that helps his game is his size. He is 6’3 and weighs 212lbs. It allows him to play “bully ball” against smaller cornerbacks in the NFL.
Thomas faces a defensive back field that is decimated with injuries this season. Yes, the New England Patriots traded for J.C. Jackson, but he should focus on Chris Olave. Outside of Jackson, the Patriots have:
Jonathan Jones (questionable): 5’10, 185lbs
Myles Bryant: 5’9, 192lbs
Their superb rookie Christian Gonzalez is doubtful for the week, allowing Thomas to crush these cornerbacks in Week 5. Expect some regression from the crazy targets Alvin Kamara saw last week, and watch Thomas eat up the excess against the Patriots in Week 5.
With these three stacks, you will dominate in Week 5. However, if you need extra stacks to consider, here are a few additional stacks you can utilize in fantasy football in Week 5:
The Titans defense is woeful against the pass. Richardson creates a plethora of fantasy points on the ground to add to his passing stats.
Outside WRs EAT against the Steelers. Look back and see the stats of Nico Collins, Davante Adams, Amari Cooper and Brandon Aiyuk. The lowest total was 90 receiving yards and Bateman lines up out wide on 77.4% of his routes.
