Monday’s Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions

PrizePicks this season: 81-65-9  Sleeper playoffs: 8-7

Yordan Alvarez Over 0.5 Walks

Yordan Alvarez went 0-4 with a trio of strikeouts last night, but I like the Astro’s best hitter to rebound in Game 2. He is 8-11 with two walks, three doubles, and a homer against the Rangers starter for tonight, Nathan Eovaldi. He was on fire against the Twins in the ALDS, eclipsing this mark in all four games, going 7-16 with two doubles and four dingers.

The Rangers are well aware, and you could tell they were nervous to pitch to him last night. 16 of the 20 pitches thrown to him were out of the strike zone. Unfortunately, Alvarez was a bit too swing-happy last night and struck out on two pitches out of the zone on 3-2 counts. He should find a walk if he comes with a more patient approach tonight. Alvarez ranked in the 93rd percentile on the season in BB%.

Editor’s Note: Yordan Alvarez is dealing with a virus but is still listed in Monday’s lineup at the time of publish.

Bryce Harper Over 0.5 Walks

Sticking with the free-pass theme, I’m rolling with a walk for Bryce Harper tonight as well. Just like Alvarez, Harper was among the league’s best in terms of BB% on the season, ranking in the 96th percentile. Through six games this postseason, he has seven walks, two intentional and has eclipsed this mark in four contests. Pitchers are best throwing around him right now because when he puts his bat on the ball, it’s usually going a long way. He’s 7-19 this postseason with three homers.

Evan Longoria Under 0.5 Hits

It’s awesome to see Evan Longoria a part of playoff baseball this late in his career, but he’s hardly a hitter at this stage. He owns the lowest batting average (.223) and second-worst OPS (.717) in the projected Arizona lineup for tonight and will likely be hitting in the eight-hole once again. He is 2-9 lifetime against Zack Wheeler but hasn’t squared up against him since 2021. With cooler temps in the 50s tonight, this forecasts as a pitching-dominant type of night, and Longoria will likely be overmatched facing Wheeler and the Phillies’ bullpen.
