Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Targets (Week 8)

Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Targets (Week 8)

Week 7 of the 2023 NFL season is in the books. Hopefully, your team pulled out the victory. However, the only easy win was last week’s win. So, let’s look at the top streaming quarterback options for Week 8.

All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN 1QB leagues and under 25% in superflex leagues.

Streaming Targets in 1QB Leagues

Sam Howell (WAS) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (36.1% Rostered)

Despite the fantasy-friendly matchup in Week 7, Howell had an awful performance. The second-year quarterback completed 52.4% of his pass attempts for 249 yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception, scoring 9.5 fantasy points. It was only the second time this season that the former UNC star didn’t have a passing touchdown. However, Howell has been productive outside of two games this season, totaling 18.3 or more fantasy points in four contests since Week 1. More importantly, he had an impressive performance in the first matchup against the Eagles this year.

Howell completed 70.7% of his pass attempts for 290 yards and one touchdown in the Week 4 matchup against the division rivals in Philadelphia, scoring 19.6 fantasy points. Furthermore, he had six rushing attempts for 40 yards in the contest, setting season highs in both categories. Meanwhile, the Eagles defense held Tua Tagovailoa to only 10.3 fantasy points last week. Yet, they surrendered 18.4 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the first six weeks, the sixth-most in the NFL. While he won’t have a 20-point performance against Philadelphia, Howell should rebound from an awful Week 7 performance.

Derek Carr (NO) vs. Indianapolis Colts (18.5% Rostered)

While the Saints offense has had issues this season, Carr has been a solid streaming option for fantasy managers. Despite playing through a shoulder injury to his throwing arm, the veteran quarterback has averaged 279 passing yards, 1.3 touchdowns, and 16.5 fantasy points per game over the past three weeks. Furthermore, he has at least 300 passing yards in nearly half the games this year, including two straight. Carr has an appealing matchup in Week 8 against a struggling Colts defense.

The Colts caught a lucky break last week. Deshaun Watson left the game after only five pass attempts because of a shoulder injury. PJ Walker came off the bench but struggled without meaningful preparation heading into the contest. However, Indianapolis has struggled to slow down quarterbacks this season. Over the first six weeks, the Colts surrendered 18 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, the eighth-most in the NFL. Furthermore, they gave up two passing touchdowns or at least 260 passing yards in all but one contest. Carr should be able to take advantage of a young Indianapolis secondary.

Streaming Targets in Superflex Leagues

Kenny Pickett (PIT) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (17.8% Rostered)

Pittsburgh had their bye in Week 6. When they took the field against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7, the Steelers looked like a borderline NFL-caliber offense. Pickett has struggled this season, averaging only 10.9 fantasy points per game before the bye week, scoring over 12.4 only once. However, the second-year quarterback has seen his production improve over his past three healthy contests, averaging 15.4 fantasy points per game. The former Pittsburgh Panther didn’t have a turnover and scored 15.2 fantasy points despite not throwing a touchdown.

Pickett should have at least one passing touchdown against the Jaguars in Week 8. Jacksonville has surrendered 10 passing touchdowns this season, one of the highest totals in the NFL. The reigning AFC South champions have surrendered 299.5 passing yards and 19.6 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks not named Desmond Ridder this year, giving up 17.4 or more in all but one matchup. While he might not have a 300-yard and three-touchdown performance, Pickett should have his best performance of the season.

Mac Jones (NE) vs. Miami Dolphins (3.9% Rostered)

Week 7 had several surprising upsets. However, the top one was the Patriots defeating the Buffalo Bills after Jones led them on a game-winning touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. The third-year quarterback had arguably his best performance this season, completing 83.3% of his pass attempts for 272 yards, two touchdowns, and 20 fantasy points. Last week was the first time the former Alabama star had two passing touchdowns in a game since Week 1. While things have been rocky for New England’s offense, hopefully, the win gets them back on track.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have had no answers for opposing quarterbacks this year. They surrendered 279 passing yards, two touchdowns and 23.3 fantasy points to Jalen Hurts in Week 7. However, Miami gave up 18.3 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the first six weeks, the sixth-most in the NFL. Furthermore, the AFC East division leaders faced Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor and Bryce Young over the past few weeks. More importantly, Jones had a solid performance in the Week 2 matchup against the Dolphins, totaling 231 passing yards, one touchdown and 13.7 fantasy points.

Streamer to Avoid

Joshua Dobbs (ARI) vs. Baltimore Ravens (22.2% Rostered)

Typically, streaming articles tell you which players to target off the waiver wire. However, I will give one quarterback each week that you should avoid.

The good news for Cardinals fans and fantasy football players is that Kyler Murray should make his season debut in a few weeks. Unfortunately, that means Dobbs will continue to start for Arizona until the star quarterback is ready. The veteran had an ugly performance in Week 7 despite the fantasy-friendly matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. He completed 57.6% of his passing attempts for 146 yards and no touchdowns. If not for a busted coverage 25-yard rushing touchdown, Dobbs would have scored just 7.6 fantasy points last week.

Unfortunately, the veteran might be lucky to score 7.6 fantasy points against the Ravens. Baltimore has shut down opposing quarterbacks, surrendering only 9.6 fantasy points per game, the fewest in the NFL. Over the past four weeks, the Ravens have held quarterbacks only two passing touchdowns and 7.2 fantasy points per game, giving up double-digits only once. Last week, Jared Goff had his worst performance of the year against Baltimore, scoring no touchdowns and only 9.4 fantasy points. Thankfully, there are no teams on a bye in Week 8 because Dobbs is unstartable under almost any circumstance.
