Fantasy Football Injury Outlook: Christian Watson, Saquon Barkley, Austin Ekeler (Week 8)

Fantasy Football Injury Outlook: Christian Watson, Saquon Barkley, Austin Ekeler (Week 8)

We survived yet another week in which most of the big names did not suffer any significant injuries. Guys like Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and Austin Ekeler all suffered injuries but returned to their games with what appeared to be no limitations.

As always, this article is an estimate and educated guessing on injuries and timelines based on limited information. Monitor practice reports for the most solid information throughout the week. Here are all of my injury takeaways for the week. Below we dive into a few notable players.

Injuries To Know for Week 8 Waiver Wire

Saquon Barkley (RB – NYG)

Barkley has played two weeks since returning from his high ankle sprain. Expect him to continue to get better and more efficient the further out he is from that injury.

High ankle sprains tend to impact performance for longer than we expect (most significantly up to 8 weeks). The Giants’ O-line is not doing any favors for him with poor run blocking. Barkley is on this list due to hyper-extending his elbow in Sunday’s game. He did return, and I expect him to play next week, as this injury appeared minor.

Austin Ekeler (RB – LAC)

As mentioned with Barkley, Ekeler doesn’t look like his old self yet. He suffered what appeared to be a left low ankle sprain. There is no official word from the team yet, so this is speculation on my part.

Ekeler was able to return to Week 7’s game. If he does play next week, I expect he will have a decrease in production. He can’t be benched if active due to his ability to score multiple TDs on any given week.

Christian Watson (WR – GB)

Watson suffered a knee injury in which his knee got bent as he went to make a catch. He said on Monday that he’s doing alright, and his imaging came back fine. This seems like it could be a minor sprain that wouldn’t be seen on imaging, but that doesn’t discount the pain he’s probably feeling. Initial imaging being clear is a good sign and pretty much rules out any potential year-ending injury.
