Fantasy Football Burning Questions: Justin Jefferson, Jonathan Taylor, Rhamondre Stevenson, Christian Watson

We are approaching the first third of the season, and there are some big questions to answer. Some fantasy superstars returned, but not to the expectations we were hoping for. We also will be without some of the top players for multiple weeks, and we need to find replacements.

We answer those questions and more.

Fantasy Football Burning Questions

Should last week’s usage of Jonathan Taylor (RB – IND) worry me?

Not even one second. Taylor had not taken a productive snap in almost ten months and skipped training camp. For a physical position like running back, you want to ease him in and prevent a long-term injury, especially with the financial investment the Colts made. That game helped Indianapolis get some trade value for Moss because Taylor will get most of the snap shares as the season continues.

Should I give up on Christian Watson (WR – GB)?

This is another guy to wait on. He’s coming off a hamstring injury, and although he’s on the field, it doesn’t mean he’s completely healthy. The good thing is the Packers are on a bye, so it’ll give him more time to heal. He has a great schedule coming up; seven of the last 12 matchups are against teams in the bottom 11 in points allowed per game to wide receivers.

What are the best options to replace all of these injured superstars?

If you’re impacted by the injuries to Justin Jefferson, De’Von Achane, or James Conner, it will be tough to replace their value. You should be looking for their in-team replacements; Jeff Wilson looks like he’ll be returning for the Dolphins, K.J. Osborn should see more targets, and Emari Demercado has moved into the feature role for Arizona. It could also be an opportunity to see what you would have to give up to get Jordan Addison or Raheem Mostert.

I have D’Onta Foreman (RB – CHI). How confident should I be in starting him?

With injuries in Chicago backfield, Foreman should be the feature back this week and that could last multiple games. I would advise not to have high expectations. In this backfield, he was the odd man out and had been a healthy scratch the last few weeks, and he’s also facing a tough matchup. Minnesota has been great against the running back, allowing the fourth-fewest rushing yards and zero touchdowns in the last four games.

Is it time to give up on Rhamondre Stevenson (RB – NE)?

There were high hopes for Stevenson and Patriots offense because they actually have an offensive coordinator, but it’s been a flop recently. Three points in two games is the worst stretch of Bill Belichick’s tenure. For Stevenson, he does get some favorable matchups; the Bills, Dolphins, Raiders, and Colts are coming up, and he had his best performance against the Dolphins this year. The Pats have had large deficits the last couple of games, which takes away the run game. I expect some better performances from Stevenson in the upcoming weeks.

Should I look to sell high on Adam Thielen (WR – CAR)?

From where you likely drafted him, if you can get a solid return from someone who might need a serviceable wide receiver, take it. I wouldn’t seek a trade because Thielen is the best receiver on the Panthers, and his 44 targets are the fourth-best since Week 2, and he’s yet to record a drop on a catchable pass. On a bad team that will face deficits, Thielen’s target share shouldn’t diminish.
