Fantasy Football Burning Questions: Daniel Jones, Darren Waller, Kyle Pitts (Week 5)

Week 5 is here, and now we’re getting into the sink-or-swim part of the fantasy season. For teams not playing well, they need to make moves fast because the season could get away from them before they know it.

Fantasy Football Burning Questions

Who is someone I should buy low?

Joe Mixon (RB – CIN)

The Bengals offense isn’t working, and they’ll have to figure out how to fix it. Joe Burrow continues to deal with a calf injury, and we see that it’s impacted Cincinnati’s offense. They could begin to lean on Mixon, and he’s one of the rare three-down backs in the league and had a 75% or better snap share in the last three games.

Who is someone I should sell high?

Romeo Doubs (WR – GB)

In a game where the Packers struggled on offense, Doubs was a bright spot with nine catches for 95 yards. He’s been a great WR2 with three finishes in the top 20, but now it might be time to pull the ripcord.

Christian Watson returned, and he was on a pitch count, so we didn’t see him at a full go. That will come soon, and with Jayden Reed, Lukas Musgrave, and the two-headed monster in the backfield, it might be time to find a buyer.

Is there any hope for Daniel Jones (QB – NYG)?

As Brian Daboll said, there’s a lot of work to be done.

Devon Witherspoon, who caught the pick-six in the Monday night game for Seattle, said that Jones tends to throw to his first read. That’s bad. This means picks like that could happen often.

Also, the offensive line is terrible, and Daniel Jones has the lowest average time in the pocket (1.7 seconds) and has been the second-most times (23). Next week is against the Dolphins, who we’ve seen don’t play any defense. That could be a favorable matchup.

So, this means Darren Waller (TE – NYG) is a bust?

I don’t know how you target Darren Waller three times; it doesn’t matter how good the coverage is, you got him for reasons like that. Something needs to be done where Jones can get the ball to Waller because there’s no way he should be averaging under five targets per game.

Can we decipher the Texans’ receiving core?

Tank Dell and Nico Collins are both fantastic options, and it’s helped C.J. Stroud become a fantasy star early on in the season. As Stroud gets more comfortable, he might find a favorite target, but it looks like it could be week-to-week.

Will the Seahawks rookies start to contribute?

The Zach Charbonnet pick was confusing to many, but I assumed he would contribute in the passing game because Kenneth Walker has never been known as a pass catcher. None of that has worked out.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba was one of the best wide receiver prospects going into the 2023 draft, and with the Seahawks having DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, you wonder why Seattle chose him in the first round.

Because Kenneth Walker has been so good, there’s no room for Charbonnet at the moment, but there’s a better chance for Geno Smith to spread the ball around.

Are you completely done with Kyle Pitts (TE – ATL)?

It’s very close, but where you drafted him, you may have to hold on. There is some optimism: he leads all tight ends in air yards, deep targets, nhas zero drops, and 100% route participation. You’re not going to get that from too many tight ends, so you’re hoping the passing game of the Falcons can improve.

He does have a tough stretch coming up as four of the next five opponents are top eight in points allowed to the tight end.

What’s the thing that confused you the most this weekend?

Why didn’t Hugh Jackman set off the metal detector?
