Fantasy Football Burning Questions
Is this run from Jared Goff (QB – DET) legit?
Talent is always part of what makes any player great, but in football, especially at the quarterback position, the system is a large factor.
Head Coach Dan Campbell has figured out how to get the best out of Goff. In 23 games with Campbell as the head coach, Goff has a 66.2% completion rate, 40-10 TD-INT ratio, and 100.8 QB rating. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, Jameson Williams, David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs, and an offensive line allowing the fifth-fewest sacks per game and 15 hurries, a great system is set up for Goff.
Are there any buy lows to target?
There might be some Puka owners who are a little nervous about the return of Cooper Kupp, and this is a great time to see if you can get him at a discount. Last week was his worst fantasy performance, but he dropped a pass in the end zone, which could have given him a solid day. The Rams are still a pass-first offense, and there will be enough targets to keep Puka’s value high.
The last two games haven’t been great for Ford, but 84 rushing yards and two catches for seven yards are solid for where you got him. The potential for big games is coming, especially if PJ Walker is the quarterback. In his next 11 matchups, he faces six teams in the bottom 10 in fantasy points allowed to the running back, including three straight in the fantasy playoffs.
How do I replace one of the recently injured running backs?
First, I’m going with someone we’re not talking about because another person on that team is getting more attention.
The injuries to Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers made Rams rookie Zach Evans the top waiver pick this week. I put some bids in myself, but I rescinded all of them when I saw this news.
The Rams signed Darrell Henderson to the practice squad. Rams fans and Cam Akers truthers know all about Sean McVay’s love for Henderson. I wouldn’t be shocked if Henderson was signed to the 53-man roster and led the backfield this week.
Two players to look for are Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason, with the priority on Mitchell. A very long time ago, in the pre-mid 2022 season, there was no featured running back in San Fransisco, and we had to guess every week who would get the majority of the touches. If Christian McCaffrey misses time, look for it to be a committee featuring Mitchell, Mason, and Tyrion Davis-Price. It may not be pretty, but it might be a good enough Plan B.
Can Alvin Kamara (RB – NO) continue this production?
As long as the Saints continue to use him the way they currently are.
The highlight reel and splash plays for Kamara are over, and the evidence shows that his overall production has diminished.
What’s making Kamara relevant is the volume. Since his return, his 23 catches are tops amongst running backs, and the 75 touches are second.
Derek Carr‘s shoulder is banged up, and you’re seeing the impact as his 34.6% completion rate on deep balls is 22nd. He’s been resorting to the check down, and that benefits Kamara.
Unless someone is a huge Kamara fan and gives you an unbelievable deal, hold onto him.
Should I give up on Jahan Dotson (WR – WAS)?
I loved Dotson going into this season, and I thought after missing time last year, a full-season surge was coming.
In comes Curtis Samuel. He’s been WR9 since Week 4 and has been behind Terry McLaurin in targets the last three weeks. Sam Howell is also playing some of the best football, so you have to believe this trend continues.
How should I feel about Kirk Cousins (QB – MIN) in his current situation?
Cousin is still in an offense that will think to pass first, and even with Justin Jefferson out, I still love Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson, and K.J. Osborn as receiving options. His upcoming schedule will be tough against San Fransisco, Green Bay, Atlanta, and New Orleans, but it will get favorable after that, and JJ should be back.
