7 Players to Sell High (2023 Fantasy Football)

7 Players to Sell High (2023 Fantasy Football)

Winning the trade market is at least as important as nailing the draft. Aside from the waiver wire’s massive impact in the season’s first few weeks, trading is the best way to improve your squad quickly. Great buy-low moves can set you up for victory in the short term and down the stretch. Solid sell-high deals can get you big hauls for overachieving players who likely won’t sustain their production.

Let’s take a look at players to trade this week. And be sure to check out our weekly trade value chart with updated values for all players.

Q: Who is your favorite sell-high candidate at this point in the season and why? Also, who would you try to get in return?

Jordan Addison (WR – MIN)

Jordan Addison is coming off an excellent performance on Monday Night Football, totaling 123 receiving yards, two touchdowns, and 27.8 half-point PPR fantasy points. He is now the WR12 for the year, averaging 12.9 fantasy points per game. However, nearly a third of his receiving yards and fantasy points for the season came Monday night. More importantly, 45% of his fantasy points in Monday’s game came off the lucky touchdown right before halftime. Fantasy players shouldn’t panic sell but explore the trade market. If you can flip Addison for a struggling star wide receiver like Jaylen Waddle or Chris Olave, that’s a move you should make in a heartbeat.”

Bijan Robinson (RB – ATL)

Bijan Robinson is my favorite sell-high candidate. I didn’t like him in the pre-season, and I don’t like him now. He’s a player who was drafted in the 1st round of most fantasy football league drafts, yet is performing to date more like a 5th-round pick. After missing this week’s game with a “headache,” I have no confidence in his toughness. I think that there is more to the story. His coach claims that Robinson was feeling weird and completely out of it on Sunday morning. It sounds more like a headache for fantasy league managers going forward. I’d try to get Austin Eckeler (RB-LAC) in a trade. ”
Jeff Boggis (Fantasy Football Empire)

Josh Downs (WR – IND)

“I would try to sell Josh Downs high. The rookie slot receiver has been a bigger part of the Colts offense than I expected, with a 20% target share that ties him for 42nd at the position, and he should see more targets per game with a pocket passer in Gardner Minshew under center. But Downs also caught a 59-yard free-play touchdown in Week 7, and that fluky catch carries what looks like a trend of increasing production that I’m not sure is there. See if you can trade him for a more sustainable top 75 flex player like Amari Cooper, Josh Palmer, or Kendrick Bourne.”
Scott Spratt (FTN)

Jahmyr Gibbs (RB – DET)

Jahmyr Gibbs is my sell-high this week. It was fantastic to see him explode on the NFL field, albeit in a blowout. Despite being one of the only healthy backs on the roster, Dan Campbell made it clear last week that Gibbs wouldn’t be getting all the work if he didn’t have to. Since being a coach, Campbell has been a straight shooter, and I don’t expect that to change. I don’t believe Gibbs will ever have the consistency to be any more than an upside flex this season. If you can get a stable RB2 for him, I would cash out. Some names would be Isiah Pacheco, James Cook, or swing for the fences and get his backfield mate David Montgomery.”
Ellis Johnson (RotoBaller)

“After the first boom game of his fantasy career, I’m selling high on Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs saw heavy usage in Week 7, with David Montgomery missing the game due to injury. He parlayed that usage into an RB3 finish. Fantasy managers have suddenly regained faith in the rookie after his monster game and seem to have forgotten the impending return of Montgomery. When Monty returns, Gibbs will be relegated back to a timeshare and will once again lose out on most of the high-value touches. Sell him now, before Montgomery is back in the lineup and his value plummets again. ”
Aaron St Denis (The League Winners)

D’Onta Foreman (RB – CHI)

D’Onta Foreman had a game that made many brave fantasy owners very happy (89 yards rushing, 3/31 receiving, 2 TDs). He is great for fantasy owners when given the chance, but will soon be in a crowded backfield when Khalil Herbert comes off IR, Roschon Johnson passes concussion protocol, and Justin Fields returns to the helm. Sell him while hot to an RB-needy team. You should have your pick of RB2s (James Cook, Isiah Pacheco, Najee Harris, maybe even Rhamondre Stevenson) or WR2s (Christian Kirk, Courtland Sutton, Diontae Johnson). Coming off a game like he did should make him a hot commodity for a team needing a win in Week 8.”
Adam Dove (The Fantasy Couriers)

Brian Robinson Jr. (RB – WAS)

Brian Robinson has yet to reach 100 rushing yards in a game and has been held under 50 yards in four straight games. He’s also not much of a factor in the passing game. This makes Robinson very TD-dependent in order to provide value. Robinson also has a tough slate of rushing defenses during the fantasy playoffs. I would try to get another top 15 RB or WR in return for the Commanders’ RB.”
Neema Hodjat (Real GM)

Tony Pollard (RB – DAL)

“Don’t get me wrong, Tony Pollard is a very good player. But the question posed to me was, who is your favorite sell-high candidate? Few players are valued higher than Tony Pollard right now. Injuries to the Cowboys’ offensive line, as well as a tough schedule, are reasons enough for me to try and unload Pollard for a haul. Ideally, I’d try and trade Pollard for a package of players I like. (For ex. Tony Pollard for Derrick Henry, Dalton Kincaid, AND Jameson Williams, or Tony Pollard for Isiah Pacheco, Jameson Williams, AND Dalton Kincaid.) However, if a package deal weren’t possible, I’d try for a one-for-one swap. For ex. Tony Pollard for Jonathan Taylor.”
