6 Dynasty Fantasy Football Stashes: Waiver Wire & Trade Targets (Week 7)

If you play dynasty and you’re not stashing players on your bench then what are you even doing? Taking fliers on players who might blow up is one of the best parts of this entire hobby. I’m constantly churning the bottom of my rosters in some leagues. It’s just way more fun to be ahead of the curve than behind it. With that in mind, here are players I think you should be ahead of your league on as we head into Week 7.

Week 7 Dynasty Fantasy Football Stashes

Aidan O’Connell (QB – LV)

“Starting” Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo is having issues staying healthy in 2023. He’s missed time already this year and is expected to miss Week 7 with a back injury. This new injury occurred in the team’s Week 6 win to the Patriots and the team sent in journeyman QB Brian Hoyer to replace him. Why am I listing O’Connell as a stash then? Let me explain.

O’Connell played in Garoppolo’s absence in Week 4 and didn’t look all that bad. He completed 24 of 39 passes for 238 yards with one interception and ran for three yards and a touchdown. However, the team lost that game and it felt like Josh McDaniels doesn’t think O’Connell is ready to take over just yet. They brought in Hoyer who should be a solid veteran presence for O’Connell to learn from. While O’Connell isn’t starting now, I’d be shocked if he doesn’t see another start this season. With how Hoyer’s looked in limited time and Garoppolo’s propensity for being hurt, I’m stashing O’Connell in all SuperFlex formats at the moment.

Sean Tucker (RB – TB)

I’m not sure if this is well-known or not, but Sean Tucker is listed as the direct backup to Rachaad White on the Buccaneers’ official depth chart. Ke’Shawn Vaughn is third and Chase Edmonds is currently on IR due to a knee injury. This means that one injury to White puts Tucker into flex consideration. So far this year, Tucker’s only gotten 15 carries, the same as Vaughn. It’s possible that people are just ignoring Tucker since he was signed as an undrafted free agent. If he’s on your waivers in dynasty, grab him now before anyone else does. He should be rostered in almost all formats and in some of my leagues he can added to your bench for literally nothing.

Jacques Patrick (RB – TEN)

In deeper leagues, a riskier stash option is Jacques Patrick. This is thanks in large part to the trade rumors around starting Titans RB Derrick Henry. If Henry gets traded, Tyjae Spears assumes the lead-back role. Spears’ price in dynasty has already seen a bump from the rumors, but I prefer being two steps ahead instead of just one. As far as I can tell, Patrick would be next in line behind Spears with Haskins being placed on season-ending IR before the year began. Patrick is currently on the Titans practice squad and should be available in almost every format, so if you’re looking for upside, he might be a good choice.

Tyquan Thornton (WR – NE)

If you’re looking for upside at receiver then I think Thornton could be your guy. The entire Patriots offense has looked pretty bad this year, but someone’s gotta make a play, right? Thornton was on IR through the first five weeks and returned in Week 6 to catch one of his two targets for six yards. Not much to write home about. However, I think he could see more playing time as the team pivots into seeing what they have for the future. Mac Jones may not have long under center and the other receivers on this team are all past their prime. I wouldn’t be shocked if we see more from Thornton down the stretch and he sees flex consideration at one point this year. Definitely worth a flyer if you have the roster spot to hold on.

Brandon Johnson (WR – DEN)

Another stash candidate due to trade rumors is the WR4 in Denver, Brandon Johnson. If the team trades Jerry Jeudy or Courtland Sutton, then Marvin Mims and Johnson will both see a bump. The price difference between the two makes me favor Johnson though, who could be on waivers in your league right now. He had a great Week 2 and was likely added at some point after that, but since then he’s been more miss than hit. If I’m stashing a receiver I want upside, and Johnson has that in spades, even if the team as a whole is rather disappointing for fantasy purposes. Who knows, maybe Johnson will be this year’s Tim Patrick and save your season as you head into playoffs. Stranger things have happened.

Brenton Strange (TE – JAC)

Speaking of strange, my last stash candidate for Week 7 is Strange himself. The backup tight end caught a touchdown pass of ten yards in Week 6, his first in the NFL. He caught a second pass for another 17 yards allowing him to finish the week as TE10. The rookie was a favorite of mine heading into the year thanks to Engram’s contract status, but with the team signing Engram to a longer-term deal I wasn’t sure if there was room for Strange. Turns out there is, and if you’re in a tight-end premium league Strange is worth adding or trading for. Not only are injuries a thing in the current NFL but if the team can rely on someone once they tend to do it again. This might be the perfect time to add Strange to your roster before he makes even more waves down the road.
