Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets for Deep Leagues
Zach Evans (RB – LAR) | 2% rostered in Yahoo, 0% rostered in ESPN
With Zach Evans, there are no statistics to talk about. Evans first carries came in Week 6 with 4 carries for 10 yards. Evans was a healthy scratch multiple times this season. With Kyren Williams likely to miss Week 7 and Ronnie Rivers expected to miss multiple weeks, Evans is a priority add as the potential lead back for the Rams. The Rams will likely promote Royce Freeman from practice squad and add another back if Williams’ absence extends further than Week 7. But, with multiple teams suffered running backs injuries and 6 teams on a bye week, any running back with the potential for 15 or more touches is viable option for any starting lineup.
Jordan Mason (RB – SF) | 7% rostered in Yahoo, 1% rostered in ESPN
Christian McCaffrey suffered an oblique injury is at risk of missing Week 7. The injury isn’t severe but the 49ers will likely be cautious with McCaffrey as one of the league’s top Super Bowl contenders. Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell are both in line for a lead back or committee role and it’s difficult to know which back has the true upside. Elijah Mitchell returned to action in Week 6 after missing multiple weeks with an injury but it was Mason who got the bulk of work behind McCaffrey. Mitchell had just 2 carries for negative 3 yards and Mason had 5 carries for 27 yards and 1 touchdown. Mason also had a strong Week 5 performance with 10 carries for 69 yards and 1 touchdown. But, it’s possible Mitchell’s limited work was the result of easing him back into action. Kyle Shanahan spoke out making the situation further unclear by stating Mitchell’s past performances earned him favor but that they can’t ignore the strong production Mason’s had recently. Either back could earn the lead role or they could split work evenly. But for our deep league purposes, Mason is the low-rostered player and strong add is deep leagues.
Craig Reynolds (RB – DET) | 2% rostered in Yahoo, 7% rostered in ESPN
David Montgomery suffered a rib injury and will miss time. It’s unclear the duration but adding Craig Reynolds is a good move in deep leagues. Jahymr Gibbs missed his second straight game dealing with a hamstring injury and could return this week. But, given most teams’ typical caution with a player returning from a hamstring injury, Reynolds would still see a role within the offense. Reynolds is a lower priority add because of the potential workload split with Gibbs. In Week 3, Montgomery didn’t play and Gibbs had 17 carries compared to 4 for Reynolds.
Michael Mayer (TE – LV) | 5% rostered in Yahoo, 1% rostered in ESPN
With no forewarning, the Raiders finally made the logical choice and gave rookie Michael Mayer a TE1 workload and the result was 5 receptions on 6 targets for 75 yards. Mayer saw an a slight increase in snap count in Week 5 but Week 6 saw a significant jump for Mayer and decrease for Austin Hooper. Mayer was one of the top tight end prospects in the 2023 draft class and while Sam LaPorta and Dalton Kincaid earned first round picks with their strong receiving profiles, Mayer’s production as a pass catcher was excellent. Mayer had over 800 yards in his final two seasons with a total of 16 touchdowns. If Mayer is officially the Raiders’ TE1, he’s a potential weekly streaming option.
