Tuesday’s Top Underdog Fantasy MLB Pick ‘Em Picks

Andre Jackson: 14.5 Pitching Outs – Higher

Jackson has flourished since transitioning from a multi-inning reliever to a starter for the Pirates. He’s recorded 11, 13 and 17 outs in three starts, with an 18-out relief appearance mixed in. The slow ramp-up shouldn’t discourage gamers from taking this prop’s higher option.

According to FanGraphs, in Jackson’s three starts, he had a 3.95 ERA, 3.96 xFIP, 4.00 SIERA, 1.32 WHIP, 12.1 BB%, 31.0 K% and 28.8 CSW%. He’s pitched well and can continue to do so in a soft matchup tonight.

The Brewers are 26th in wRC+ (87) versus righties in 2023. Milwaukee is 28th in wRC+ (81) on the road. They’re also 21st in wRC+ (93) in the previous 30 days.

Pete Alonso: 8.0 Fantasy Points – Higher

Alonso has smashed in the second half. In 199 plate appearances since the All-Star break, he’s had 15 homers, a .357 OBP, .327 ISO and 149 wRC+. The slugging righty also has a good track record with the platoon advantage. In 519 plate appearances against southpaws since 2021, Alonso has had 37 homers, a .349 OBP, .296 ISO and 137 wRC+.

Conversely, Patrick Corbin is dreadful against righties. The 560 righties who’ve faced Corbin this season have 24 homers, a .349 OBP and .360 wOBA. Finally, per Baseball Savant, Alonso has had a .466 xwOBA in 51 plate appearances against Corbin in his career.

Matt Olson: 8.5 Fantasy Points – Higher

Olson is a monster with the platoon advantage at home. In 236 plate appearances against righties at home this season, Olson has 22 homers, a .403 OBP, .382 ISO and 180 wRC+.

Meanwhile, Miles Mikolas is a struggling pitch-to-contact starter. In 29 starts this year, he has a 4.66 ERA, 4.96 xERA and 4.72 xFIP. The veteran righty has also struck out only 16.4% of the 329 lefties he’s faced. Pitching to contact against Olson is likely to lead to fireworks.

Austin Riley: 8.0 Fantasy Points – Higher

Mikolas doesn’t miss many right-handed bats, either. The 35-year-old righty has struck out just 15.5% of the 373 righties he’s faced in 2023.

And, as is the case with facing Olson, pitching to contact against Riley isn’t likely to work in Mikolas’s favor. In 749 plate appearances against righties at home since 2021, Riley has had 43 homers, a .352 OBP, .246 ISO and 138 wRC+.

Marcell Ozuna: 1.5 Total Bases – Higher

Ozuna has muscled up in same-handed matchups at home this season. In 194 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers at home in 2023, Ozuna has eight doubles, 13 homers, a .267 batting average, .541 slugging and .273 ISO.

Ozuna has also torn the cover off the ball down the stretch. In 191 plate appearances in the second half, Ozuna has 13 doubles, 15 homers, a .308 batting average, .651 slugging and .343 ISO.
