NFL DFS Week 4 Stacking Advice
Anthony Richardson + Michael Pittman (QB/WR – IND)
One of the best rules to follow is to find a quarterback in a close game who is slated to be the underdog. That is Anthony Richardson and thank goodness it is. We get to fill our need for a Konami-style quarterback while checking the box on one of our rules. Anthony Richardson is still building his ability to pass within the NFL, but he is first in fantasy points per dropback.
However, Richardson’s bread and butter is the running game, where he is fifth in carries, first in red zone carries and fourth in rushing yards per game. Anthony Richardson is Jalen Hurts from a few years back, which means he is a fantasy asset whenever we can get our hands on him. Remember, Richardson had ten rushing attempts in game one (three in game two before the injury) and three rushing touchdowns. Before his injury in Week 2, when he left before the half, Anthony Richardson had 17.7 fantasy points.
Anthony Richardson can break a slate alone, but let’s stack him with his number one option, Michael Pittman. Michael Pittman has had double-digit targets in every game this season. If you read past articles of mine, I explained how an RPO-style offense greatly benefits the number one option on the offense. We have seen that come to fruition in 2023. With Anthony Richardson throwing to his first read 68.1% of the time, we can expect Michael Pittman to continue to record eight or more receptions, a feat he has accomplished in every game in 2023.
Special Call-Back to This Stack
Tutu Atwell (WR – LAR)
To afford some players we would like to use later, we will skip over Puka Nacua and go to his cheaper counterpart in Tutu Atwell, who has seen eight or more targets in every game and has received a rushing attempt in the last two games. With Atwell, you save cash for your expensive players and receive great production. That is a win-win.
James Cook + Tyreek Hill (RB – BUF/ WR – MIA)
We understand that James Cook doesn’t get the usage inside the red zone and has yet to score a touchdown in 2023. However, he is at the top in snaps for running backs in 2023. This year, Cook is 14th in rushing attempts and the tenth most routes run for a running back. Cook isn’t on the All-Cardio team, though, when it relates to the passing game, as he is eighth in targets for running backs this season.
In a game environment with two teams with a high pace of play, the Buffalo Bills will lean on James Cook and his ninth-ranked yards per carry to help keep the Miami Dolphins offense off the field. This game screams a long touchdown from James Cook against a defense allowing the seventh most rushing yards in 2023.
Now, let’s discuss the bringback of Tyreek Hill. Tua targets his first read 80% of the time. The Dolphins use motion 59% of the time. This combination makes it almost impossible to cover a guy who runs a 4.34 and possesses a burst + agility score of 94 percentile or better. We will finish this with a friendly reminder from my Week 1 stack article: Tyreek Hill is a road MONSTER regarding fantasy football. Last season, he scored 225 PPR points when on the road. Ignoring trends is foolish, and ignoring stats that blend with these trends is the definition of insanity.
Javonte Williams + Broncos Def (RB/DEF – DEN)
Javonte Williams has yet to be a world-beater for fantasy football or DFS, but this could be the week that all that changes. When you can get a player facing the dumpster fire of the Chicago Bears, try to do that, especially when it’s someone with a talented player profile, like Javonte, who is only $5,500(DraftKings). Javonte Williams has received double-digit carries and three targets in every game this season. These total touches come as he is still getting back into playing football after his injury in 2022.
Now Javonte Williams faces a Chicago Bears defense that allows the tenth most rushing yards to running backs. This same defense allows the fourth most rushing touchdowns to running backs. They also allow the second most receiving yards and most receiving touchdowns to running backs. These stats have left the Chicago Bears in a place where they relinquish the second-most fantasy points per game to the position. One of the best rules you need for DFS is that matchup matters the most when it comes to running backs, and this matchup is a place for JAvonte Williams to sit down and EAT this Sunday.
As for the defense, we get to follow another DFS rule. That rule is simple: Pair my running back with my defense. The most straightforward explanation is that you are predicting a game script where that team has a positive game script and will lean on their running game more while their defense handles business on the other side of the ball. Business should be good for the Denver Broncos defense against a Chicago Bears team that has allowed Justin Fields to be sacked at the second-highest amount in the NFL. Right now, Justin Fields is struggling as an NFL quarterback and is holding the ball for too long. This combination will lead to our favorite equation: Sacks + Pressure = Turnovers.
Play this defense that gave up 70 points last week with confidence, knowing that recency bias will keep others off of this play and allow you to build leverage with optimal production.
