Week 2 began with the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles coming in a shootout for Thursday Night Football. Now we move on to the main slate and need to know which games to correctly identify and attack to win in DFS. In this article, I will expose you to multiple stacks that should be played in your lineup to help you create leverage over the field, take down a tournament, or win your cash games. Let’s start with a stack that underperformed in week one.
Week 2 NFL DFS Stacking Advice
Joe Burrow (QB – CIN)/ Ja’Marr Chase (WR – CIN)/ Justice Hill (RB – BAL)
The Cincinnati Bengals were disappointing in week one when it came to fantasy football and disappointing the fans of their team. However, we can use that to our advantage here in week two. With most players using recency bias, we can find a way to build leverage on the field. Currently, Joe Burrow is projected for 1-5% of rostership, Ja’marr Chase is projected for 5-10%, and Justice Hill is projected for 1-5% of rostership.
With these players on the lower end of rosters, we can target a game with a 46.5 total points projection. This setup allows us to build leverage on the uber-popular Chiefs vs. Jaguars game this Sunday.
So Why should we target the Bengals offense to lead this bring-back stack?
Well, there are multiple reasons. The first reason is that the Baltimore Ravens offense can also produce on the offensive side of the ball, allowing the game flow to lean towards a higher game total. Baltimore has an aggressive defense on the backend most weeks, and with their core injuries on defense, that scheme can haunt them against a wide receiver like Ja’Marr Chase. The Ravens will be playing without safety Marcus Williams while Marlon Humphrey is still dealing with a foot injury and is questionable. You play this combo every week when you can create leverage on the field with two talented players like Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase in a game with a total OU between 45-50.
Most people will lean into Zay Flowers instead of Justice Hill for the bringback, which makes sense as he is tied with Tyreek Hill after one week for red zone targets. Some people will play Mark Andrews (if healthy) for obvious reasons because he is talented. However, Justice Hill is cheap regarding DFS (specifically Draftkings) and will allow us to create some leverage. His price point allows you to build up elsewhere while grabbing a piece of a potent offense. Last week, Justice Hill had 31.7% of the snap share. He only received eight carries and produced nine yards but had two touchdowns. With his skill set, including pass-catching abilities, and the Ravens needing to lean on the passing game more without Dobbins, the dart throw shot that he can take over the backfield is worth it within this game structure.
Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAC)/ Calvin Ridley (WR – JAC)
Now let me begin this section with if you want to create massive leverage within the field, fade this game because most casual users will see the high game total and two solid teams and leech to these players. This stack leans towards a cash play over GPP. However, the “game of the week” will consist of these juggernaut offenses of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The combination from this game I am leaning into for my lineups will come from the JAguars side with Trevor Lawrence and Calvin Ridley. Jacksonville plays at a breakneck pace of play with a high total percentage of situation-neutral passing rate. With Calvin Ridley bursting onto the scene as this team’s alpha wide receiver and the Jaguars having to go 0-60mph from the beginning of the game to keep up with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, this combination can pay enormous dividends for your DFS lineup.
Ridley was sixth overall in fantasy points for wide receivers, stacking up eight receptions (11 targets) for 101 yards for one touchdown. Ridley was also ninth in air yards in week one, tenth in yards after catch, and seventh in total team target percentage. Trevor Lawrence knows the skill set he has in Calvin Ridley and plans to use him as much as humanely possible.
** The only thing that can slow this stack and pace of play down to the point that I would fade this game is the weather. Keep your eye on the reports on Sunday, and if the rain and the wind are rising, fade away from this stack. **
Jahmyr Gibbs (RB – DET)/ Lions Defense
In Week 1, we all expected a breakout game for Jahmyr Gibbs. He disappointed, and David Montgomery also took over the backfield within the game. However, the Detroit Lions coaching staff must acknowledge the skill set of Jahmyr Gibbs in this game against the Seattle Seahawks. Did you know Jahmyr Gibbs is tied for the most broken tackles in week one with six? Did you know Gibbs only played in 27% of snaps but still racked up 60 total yards on those nine touches? The Seahawks struggle against running backs. Last year, the Seahawks allowed the tenth most receptions to the positions, fifth-most receiving yards, and allowed Kyren Williams to score multiple times last week.
The Detroit Lions defense had a strong showing in week one against the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, and their reward is a struggling Seattle Seahawks offensive line. Abraham Lucas is on injury reserve, Charles Cross is questionable, and the Seahawks have turned to aging Jason Peters to calm the chaos. The Detroit Lions won’t be popular, so consider them within your player pool to create leverage. When a defense can create pressures, stack up sacks, and create turnovers like this Lions defense, they should always be considered within your player pool for the week in DFS.
