MLB DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Tuesday (9/26)

Tonight’s MLB DFS main slate has 11 games at DraftKings and 10 at FanDuel, starting at 7:07 pm ET at both DFS providers. The picks for tonight’s main slate are narrowed to four starting pitchers, three stacks, three studs and three values/punts.

Tuesday's Starting Pitcher Strategy
The mid-salaried options are flush for pitchers tonight, comprising the top three spots on the table. The top suggestion narrowly edges the second and third-ranked pitchers, who are excellent choices in GPPs. The fourth pitcher on the table is dialed in and grossly underpriced on DK, where he's a no-brainer SP2 in cash games.

Cash Game Recommendations:

Bailey Ober (MIN) vs. OAK
Ober has pitched well at home. According to FanGraphs, in 71.1 innings at home this year, Ober has a 3.53 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 5.9 BB% and 22.0 K%. He's capable of taking advantage of a cushy matchup like tonight's.

The Athletics are tied for 24th in wRC+ (89) and have a 25.1 K% versus righties in 2023. Oakland is 23rd in wRC+ (86) and has a 26.2 K% in the previous 30 days. Finally, they're tied for 22nd in wRC+ (90) and have a 24.0 K% on the road this year.

Michael King (NYY) at TOR
King has pitched out of this world lately. In his previous five starts spanning 25.2 innings, he's had a 1.40 ERA, 2.07 xFIP, 0.97 WHIP, 2.0 BB%, 39.4 K%, 34.3 CSW%, 116 Stuff+, 107 Location+ and 112 Pitching+. King also dominated tonight's opponent in his most recent start.

Still, the Blue Jays are a challenging matchup, ranking in the top 10 in wRC+ versus righties and in the previous 30 days. However, Toronto is just tied for 16th in wRC+ (102) and has a 21.2 K% at home this year.

Additionally, the betting info is good. The Yankees are slight underdogs (+124), but the game's total is a pitcher-friendly 7.0 runs. So, King is a steal at DK.

GPP Recommendations:

Seth Lugo (SD) at SF
Lugo hasn't been overwhelmed on the road this season. Instead, he's had a 3.91 ERA, 3.75 xFIP, 1.24 WHIP, 5.9 BB% and 23.0 K% in 73.2 innings. The veteran righty has a mediocre matchup tonight.

The Giants are tied for 18th in wRC+ (96) and have a 24.3 K% versus righties in 2023. San Francisco is tied for 17th in wRC+ (95) and has a 23.0 K% in the previous 30 days. The G-Men are also tied for 19th in wRC+ (98) and have a 22.6 K% at home this year.

Finally, the Friars are -125, and the game's total is 8.5 runs. Therefore, the betting info is stellar.

Braxton Garrett (MIA) at NYM
Garrett has pitched much better on the road than at home this season. In 75.0 innings on the road this year, the young lefty has a 2.52 ERA, 3.07 xFIP, 1.03 WHIP, 4.7 BB% and 24.0 K%. Furthermore, he spun six scoreless innings against tonight's opponent in his last start.

The Mets are 21st in wRC+ (95) and have a 22.0 K% against lefties in 2023. They're 14th in wRC+ (105) and have a 24.1 K% in the previous 30 days. Furthermore, the Marlins are -130, and the game's total is just 8.0 runs.

The Rangers are fourth in wRC+ (119) versus lefties in 2023 and will see one for the second consecutive night. Texas is tied for sixth in wRC+ (115) in the previous 30 days. They're also ninth in wRC+ (104) on the road this year and get a boost from the park factors at Angel Stadium. Reid Detmers is inconsistent and nearly as capable of spinning a gem as melting down. So, the Rangers aren't risk-free, but their upside is immense.

• Risk: Medium
• Game Type: Both
• Game Total/Moneyline: Unlisted

The Athletics haven't announced a starter, but Roster Resource projects Paul Blackburn to start. He's had a 4.50 ERA and 4.95 xFIP in his previous five starts. The Twins can knock him and Oakland's lousy bullpen around.

Minnesota is fifth in wRC+ (110) versus righties in 2023. They're tied for sixth in wRC+ (115) in the previous 30 days. Finally, the Twins are sixth in wRC+ (115) at home this year.

• Value: Low
• Risk: Low
• Game Type: Both
• Game Total/Moneyline: Unlisted

This game isn't on FD's main slate. However, it's on DK's, and the Dodgers have a drool-inducing ceiling in MLB's top hitting environment.

The Dodgers are tied for second in wRC+ (116) and second in ISO (.196) versus righties in 2023. Los Angeles is fourth in wRC+ (119) in the previous 30 days. LA is also third in wRC+ (113) on the road this year. Thus, it's an eruption spot.

• In 150 plate appearances against lefties since reaching the majors last year, Josh Jung has slugged 12 homers with a .353 OBP, .308 ISO and 167 wRC+.
• Edouard Julien has mashed eight taters with a .446 OBP, .281 ISO and 182 wRC+ in 157 plate appearances against righties at home this year.
• In 248 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, Mitch Garver has hit 12 bombs with a .375 OBP, .228 ISO and 140 wRC+.

• Matt Wallner has hit seven dingers with a .436 OBP, .330 ISO and 192 wRC+ in 110 plate appearances against righties at home this year.
• In 247 plate appearances versus righties this season, Alex Kirilloff has a .368 OBP and 133 wRC+.
• Jason Heyward has hit 13 homers with a .352 OBP, .208 ISO and 127 wRC+ in 330 plate appearances against righties in 2023.

Tuesday's Hitter Strategy
The Rangers and Twins are the best sources of offense at both DFS outlets. Yet, mixing the Dodgers in at DK is appealing.
