Fantasy Football Week 4 Start/Sit Advice: Sleepers & Duds (2023)

Which under-the-radar players might be able to give your fantasy team a lift? Which chalky players might not be as safe as they seem? Our featured analysts name some potential sleepers and underachievers, along with start/sit advice for Week 4.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Start/Sit Advice

Q: Which player outside of the top 100 in the FantasyPros flex rankings is a good sleeper start, and why do you think he has upside this week?

Marvin Mims Jr. (WR – DEN)

Marvin Mims Jr. leads the team in receiving yards (195), yards per route run (7.22), and TPPR (33.3%). Yet, he has only 27 routes run this season, 41 fewer than Brandon Johnson and 15 fewer than Lil’Jordan Humphrey. However, this might be the week Sean Payton actually utilizes the rookie wide receiver. The Bears have surrendered 178.7 receiving yards and 29.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game to wide receivers this season. They have also given up eight receptions of over 30 yards over the first three weeks. If he can have more than nine routes run in this matchup, Mims could end the week as a top-12 wide receiver.”
Mike Fanelli (FantasyPros)

“The Broncos can play him more, play him less, I don’t care. Marvin Mims Jr. will make the most of his asinine utilization. Mims has already posted two weeks as a flex-worthy option because of elite efficiency despite barely seeing the field. A matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 4 could set the scene for a full-on breakout.”
Seth Miller (Crossroads Fantasy Football)

Marvin Mims Jr. faces off against a Chicago Bears defense that is giving up 285 passing yards per game, ranked in the bottom three of NFL teams. We haven’t seen Mims Jr. command a huge share of the targets yet, but I believe he will start working himself more into the game plan beginning this week. His big-play, deep-threat ability should be on full display against the Bears.”
Anthony Corrente (The Dynasty Drive)

Treylon Burks (WR – TEN)

“I still have hope for the current WR77 in PPR scoring: Treylon Burks. He saw a season-high six targets in the Titans Week 3 loss to the Browns, but he only caught one of them for five yards. He got 76 yards in Week 2 so it definitely feels like he’s being given an opportunity to produce in this offense. I really hope you have better options, but I know I’m starting Burks in a league or two where I don’t, and I don’t hate it.”
Andrew Hall (FantasyPros)

Tyjae Spears (RB – TEN)

Tyjae Spears is a good sleeper start in Week 4. Spears saw 56% of snaps to Derrick Henry‘s 38% in Week 3. Henry only has 11 more total snaps than Spears on the season. With Henry nursing a toe injury, Spears is a solid play against the Bengals. ”
Joe Orrico (No Expert Fantasy Football)

Josh Downs (WR – IND)

Josh Downs is a player who isn’t generating as much buzz as he should be. He’s playing fewer snaps than Alec Pierce but is an 80% route participant and has out-targeted Pierce in every game this season, including his 11-target game last week. Downs hasn’t fully broken out or registered a touchdown yet, but that could be coming this week in a fast-paced matchup with the Colts offense running the fifth most plays per game and the Rams running the sixth most. The Rams defense is surrendering the sixth most fantasy points to opposing slot wide receivers, so you’re getting a decent PPR floor with Downs’ target volume, but potential for much more.”
Chad Workman (Fantasy Scouts)

Darius Slayton (WR – NYG)

Darius Slayton, WR, Giants: Slayton leads all Giants WRs in routes, targets, and yards. Now he gets a banged-up Seattle defense that’s allowed the most PPR points to enemy WRs.”
Kevin English (Draft Sharks)

Q: Which player inside the top 40 in the FantasyPros flex rankings is likely to disappoint fantasy managers this week?

Brian Robinson Jr. (RB – WAS)

Brian Robinson Jr. started the year on fire, averaging 20.5 half-point PPR fantasy points over the first two weeks. Yet, he averaged only 4.4 yards per rushing attempt and 3.03 yards after contact per rushing attempt. Furthermore, the second-year player had only 10.3% of his rushing attempts total 10 or more yards. However, everything changed last week against the Bills. Robinson got phased out of the game, playing only 37% of the snaps, as Washington had to abandon the run. Unfortunately, things aren’t better this week as he faces an Eagles run defense that has held running backs to only 2.84 yards and 0.28 fantasy points per rushing attempt this season.”
Mike Fanelli (FantasyPros)

“The Washington Commanders are eight-point underdogs in Philadelphia this week, which doesn’t bode well for Brian Robinson Jr. Last week in a trailing game script, Antonio Gibson played 13 more snaps than Robinson, leading to his lowest carry total in a game this season with 10. Not only that, but the Eagles defensive line is Robinson’s toughest test yet. In three games, the leading rushers against Philadelphia have totaled 29 yards, 28 yards, and 38 yards. You’re basically hoping he falls into the endzone if you’re forced to start Robinson.”
Chad Workman (Fantasy Scouts)

Rhamondre Stevenson (RB – NE)

“One player that I think will disappoint in Week 4 is Rhamondre Stevenson. Stevenson’s teammate, Ezekiel Elliott, rushed 16 times for 80 yards in Week 3. Stevenson rushed 19 times for 59 yards. Stevenson is getting the volume, but Elliott is getting the yards. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick probably prefers yards over carries, so it’s possible that this becomes a true timeshare going forward. If that’s the case, ranking Stevenson at ECR 32 feels very high to me.”
Andrew Hall (FantasyPros)

Derrick Henry (RB – TEN)

“There are a number of factors that could be causing Derrick Henry’s career lows in yards after contact, PFF’s elusiveness grade, and breakaway run percentage. Maybe he’s finally hit the age/touch cliff. Maybe his toe injury is bothering him more than we know. Maybe his offensive line is truly offensive (he’s met in the backfield on half his touches). Whatever the reason(s), we’re a subpar week away from Henry getting flex-zoned.”
Seth Miller (Crossroads Fantasy Football)

James Conner (RB – ARI)

James Conner has enjoyed a hot start to the 2023 season, but things get much more difficult in a matchup with the division rival San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco is allowing a measly 53 rushing yards per game to opposing offenses, so you have to hope Conner finds his way into the end zone to save his day. Game script could get away from the Cardinals in this one if San Francisco gets out to an early lead. I’d look for other options in my flex this week if I have depth at either running back or wide receiver. ”
Anthony Corrente (The Dynasty Drive)

James Conner, RB, Cardinals: Credit Conner for a strong start, but I’m not looking to attack this matchup with San Francisco. The veteran also popped up on the injury report with a back injury.”
Kevin English (Draft Sharks)

Jerome Ford (RB – CLE)

Jerome Ford could disappoint fantasy managers in Week 4. Last week, Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong combined for 11 rush attempts to Ford’s 10. Deshaun Watson had 4 rushes, and Elijah Moore sprinkled in a couple of carries as well. The passing involvement isn’t necessarily there either, as Hunt matched Ford’s 3 targets. Ford is not dominating this backfield as we expected him to after one week without Chubb, and the Ravens’ defense isn’t exactly a cakewalk this week. ”
