Football is a violent, unpredictable sport where anything can happen. Injuries can derail a player’s season and dash any hopes you had for your fantasy football squad. The best way to protect yourself is to always have a plan B. That can be through acquiring your rostered players’ “handcuff” or backup, or having deep stashes on your bench in an emergency.
Week 3 revealed a few players who are creeping into fantasy football relevancy slowly but surely and are available on the cheap right now. Check out these three value roster additions that are a boom performance or an injury away from being in your starting fantasy football lineup.

WR & TE Handcuffs & Stashes (Week 4)
Calvin Austin (WR – PIT)
The Pittsburgh Steelers offense has been less than electric, to say the least, but it hasn’t been for lack of trying in the passing game. With a rushing attack that has struggled through the first three weeks of the season, second-year WR Calvin Austin is beginning to emerge as a potential fantasy football value.
Austin, who is averaging 5.3 targets per game, has logged nine catches for 119 yards and one touchdown through his first three games. Last week, Austin saw six targets while notching a 73% snap share. While he only caught two of those six targets, he turned them into 72 receiving yards and a touchdown. With the return of WR Diontae Johnson still in question, Austin is making his case as the Steelers’ WR2 behind George Pickens and he is a value on the waiver wire right now.
Marvin Mims (WR – DEN)
The Denver Broncos are coming off one of the worst losses in NFL history, so it’s hard to imagine anyone on this team being valuable. However, rookie WR Marvin Mims might be one of the sneakiest value adds in fantasy football right now. Mims leads the team in receiving yards (195) despite having 10 fewer catches (7) than fellow Denver WR Courtland Sutton (17). While the lack of volume for Mims has been puzzling, he is making the most of every opportunity. His average depth of target (24.7 yards) leads all receivers with a minimum of 7 targets while logging a 95.9 receiving grade on passes 20-plus yards, per Pro Football Focus.
Mims has clearly established himself as the Broncos’ most dangerous deep threat. Five of his nine targets have been beyond 20 yards, which have resulted in three catches for 151 yards and a touchdown. However, he has also been efficient in the short passing game. Mims has caught all four targets under nine yards for 44 yards and has a contested catch rate of 66.6. If the Broncos want to turn this season around after an 0-3 start, Mims will need to get more involved in the offense. He is a high-risk, high-reward value stash that could save not just the Broncos season, but your fantasy football season as well.
Luke Musgrave (TE – GB)
There’s never a wrong time to chase potential boom value when it comes to the TE position. One of the most exciting emerging values at the position is Green Bay rookie bookend Luke Musgrave. With a banged-up receiving corps currently missing WR Christian Watson, Musgrave has managed to carve out a role that only looks to be growing. Week 3 saw him take off like a rocket, earning eight targets he turned into six catches for 49 yards on his way to 10.9 PPR fantasy points.
Much like fellow rookie Jayden Reed, Musgrave stands to benefit long-term from injuries and what has thus far been an inefficient run game behind Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. He has earned a 75-plus percent snap share in all three weeks this season and logged 29 snaps in the slot last week. His 11 catches are eighth among all TEs, and his 124 receiving yards are seventh. With no signs of his production slowing down, Musgrave is a must-add TE at his current value before it skyrockets.
