Fantasy Football QB Streamers: Jared Goff, Brock Purdy, Mac Jones (Week 2)

Fantasy Football QB Streamers: Jared Goff, Brock Purdy, Mac Jones (Week 2)

Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season is in the books. Hopefully, your team pulled out the victory. However, the only easy win was last week’s win. So, let’s look at the top streaming quarterback options for Week 2.

All the quarterbacks featured are rostered in under 50% of ESPN 1QB leagues and under 25% in superflex leagues.

Streaming Targets in 1QB Leagues

Jared Goff (DET) vs. Seattle Seahawks | 48.6% Rostered

Jared Goff made last week’s streaming quarterbacks article and had a solid Week 1 performance. The veteran quarterback completed 62.9% of his pass attempts for 253 yards and a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs, scoring 14 fantasy points. Unfortunately, he scored 16.2% fewer fantasy points than his season average in 2022 (16.7). However, the former No. 1 overall pick should have a bounce-back performance on Sunday against the Seahawks.

Seattle surrendered 14.5 fantasy points to Matthew Stafford in Week 1. The veteran quarterback didn’t have a touchdown in the game but did throw for 334 yards. The last time Stafford had over 330 passing yards was Week 7 of the 2021 season. Furthermore, the Seahawks had no answer for the former No. 1 overall pick despite him missing Cooper Kupp. Goff had his way with the Seahawks last year, totaling 378 passing yards, four touchdowns and 33.2 fantasy points. While he won’t have those numbers again this week, the veteran is an excellent streaming option.

Brock Purdy (SF) vs. Los Angeles Rams | 24.5% Rostered

Some might have faded Brock Purdy in Week 1 because of the matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the rain. However, the former Iowa State star was outstanding despite having elbow surgery this offseason. The second-year quarterback had 220 passing yards, two touchdowns and 16.8 fantasy points in the blowout victory over the Steelers. Furthermore, Purdy was the ninth-highest-scoring quarterback in Week 1 heading into the “Monday Night Football” matchup.

This week, the former Iowa State star takes on the Rams in Los Angeles. While Purdy didn’t face the Rams last season, Los Angeles surrendered 237 passing yards, 1.5 touchdowns and 15.8 fantasy points per game to Jimmy Garoppolo in the two matchups in 2022. Last week, they held Geno Smith to only 112 passing yards and 9.1 fantasy points. However, the Seattle passing attack looked out of sync. Meanwhile, the 49ers were firing on all cylinders in Week 1. Purdy has thrown at least two touchdowns in every regular season start of his career. That trend will continue on Sunday.

Streaming Targets in Superflex Leagues

Mac Jones (NE) vs. Miami Dolphins | 4.9% Rostered

Most of the fantasy football community wrote Mac Jones off after his struggles last season. However, what a difference having a legitimate offensive play-caller can make for a young quarterback. The former Alabama QB had 316 passing yards, three touchdowns and 24.1 fantasy points in the Week 1 matchup against a tough Philadelphia Eagles defense. Furthermore, he was the second-highest-scoring quarterback of the opening week ahead of “Monday Night Football,” only scoring three fewer fantasy points than Tua Tagovailoa.

Yet, things are looking even better for the third-year quarterback in Week 2. Jones faces a Miami defense that surrendered 21 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks last season, the second-most in the NFL. Furthermore, they gave up over 250 passing yards per game in 2022, the fifth-most in the league. Justin Herbert had two touchdowns and 20.9 fantasy points against the Dolphins in Week 1. While he struggled against the Dolphins last year, Jones will have a strong performance on Sunday night.

Baker Mayfield (TB) vs. Chicago Bears | 4.1% Rostered

While some fans were pre-ordering their Caleb Williams Buccaneers jersey, Baker Mayfield led the team to a 20-17 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The former Oklahoma star had 173 passing yards, two touchdowns and 16.02 fantasy points in Week 1. He had more fantasy points than several big-name quarterbacks. Mayfield scored only 0.04 fewer fantasy points than Lamar Jackson (6.56), Dak Prescott (6.32) and Joe Burrow (3.18) combined in Week 1 (16.06).

Mayfield now gets an appealing matchup this week. The Bears had massive preseason hype around them, only to fall flat on their faces Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. Jordan Love was making only his second career start. Yet, he played like a 10-year veteran against Chicago. Love had 245 passing yards, three touchdowns and 23 fantasy points in Week 1, finishing as the third-highest-scoring quarterback heading into Monday night. Unfortunately, seeing Love rip apart their defense isn’t new for the Bears. Last year, they surrendered 19.1 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, the sixth-most in the NFL. Mayfield should have no trouble against Chicago.
