Aaron Rodgers feared to have suffered Achilles injury, to have MRI Tuesday

There is a fear that Jets QB Aaron Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury in Monday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills, and he is scheduled to have an MRI on Tuesday. It is currently unknown if it is ruptured.

Fantasy Impact

If it is indeed a ruptured Achilles, Rodgers would be done for the season. And as a veteran QB who will turn 40 years old in December, he could very well decide to retire. As for 2023, Rodgers being out would negatively impact the fantasy outlooks of WRs Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman and the Jets’ offense as a whole. Zach Wilson replaced Rodgers on Monday and would get the first crack at the starting job, though the Jets could look to bring in competition at the position. QB Tim Boyle is currently on the practice squad.

Austin Ekeler dealing with ankle injury

According to Brandon Staley, Austin Ekeler has an ankle injury, and his practice status for Wednesday is uncertain.

Fantasy Impact

Ekeler had a productive Week 1 output in the Chargers’ loss to the Dolphins, rushing 16 times for 117 yards with one TD and catching four passes for an additional 47 yards. While his backup, Joshua Kelley, was already a strong waiver wire recommendation, he is a must-add if Ekeler misses any time.

Kenneth Gainwell doesn’t practice Monday ahead of Week 2

According to their practice report, RB Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) did not practice Monday with the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of their Thursday Night Football matchup.

Fantasy Impact

With practice coming the day after their game, conclusions should not be jumped to too abruptly, but the situation should remain monitored to see if he returns this week. Gainwell started at running back for the Eagles in their season opener, toting the ball 14 times for 54 yards and catching four passes. If he’s good to go, assumption is that he starts again against the Minnesota Vikings.
