Fantasy Football Early Waiver Wire: De’Von Achane, Matt Breida, Donald Parham, Luke Musgrave (Week 4)

The week is nearly wrapped up, and of course there were another round of injuries and surprising performances. As a result, fantasy managers will be on the lookout for wavier wire additions and replacement options for those injured over the weekend or just to bolster their lineup moving forward. Here are a few players to consider adding via the waiver wire this week.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets

Matt Breida (RB – NYG)

Rostered: 26.3%

Per Nathan Jahnke, Matt Breida took 21 of the 24 first half running back snaps for the New York Giants on Thursday. If Saquon Barkley misses more time with his ankle-not-high-ankle-actually-yes-high-ankle sprain, Breida should see the majority of work for the Giants. I’m not entirely sold on what Breida brings to the table talent-wise, so temper your expectations and waiver priority/FAAB dollars. Since November 2020, Breida has rushed for 20 or more yards on a single attempt just once.

De’Von Achane (RB – MIA)

Rostered: 15.6%

True story: I traded CEH for De’Von Achane in a league on Friday. I thought I was getting my Raheem Mostert handcuff!

Wow. I don’t think we’ve ever seen a fantasy rookie ascension quite like this.

Will he put up 53.3 PPR points every week? I’m leaning towards no.

That being said, Achane is as high a priority waiver addition as there is.

Raheem Mostert will continue to be involved. Mostert is an explosive, reliable veteran with plenty of goodwill with Head Coach Mike McDaniels. However, he is notoriously injury-prone. Even with Mostert healthy, Achane’s explosiveness should be enough to make him a weekly RB2/flex option with potential to exceed that role as the season moves along.

Luke Musgrave (TE – GB)

Rostered: 13.4%

I get it, his fantasy scoring isn’t spectacular, and Christian Watson should be back soon. However, the 2023 42nd overall pick has looked the part and is seeing plenty of opportunity via snaps and routes run. The Green Bay receiving corps is so ambiguous that it’s only a matter of time before Musgrave has a breakout game and is rostered by anyone without a top-tier tight end.

Donald Parham (TE – LAC)

Rostered: 0.4%

The Madden community knows this man simply as Par-HIM. When it comes to goal line targets, Chargers’ QB Justin Herbert agrees. Parham has three touchdowns on the season. He’s still exclusively a deep-league or TE-premium add. However, if Gerald Everett were to miss time for any reason, Parham becomes an intriguing prospect. The 6’8 TE has oozed with mismatch potential since the Chargers signed him in 2020.

Successful In-Season Fantasy Football Management

Once your fantasy football team is drafted, the work is not over. Successful in-season management is crucial to a winning fantasy football season. Here are some tips to help you manage your team effectively throughout the season:

Stay up to date on player news
Keep track of player injuries, suspensions, and other news that may impact their performance. This will help you make informed decisions about which players to start each week.

Monitor the waiver wire
Keep an eye on the waiver wire and be ready to pick up players who may be undervalued or overlooked by other teams. This can provide valuable depth to your roster. Use our waiver wire assistant to view optimal lineups, waiver and trade suggestions, and league analysis.

Analyze matchups
Analyze the upcoming matchups for your players and opponents to determine which players to start in your lineup each week. Look for favorable matchups and take into account the strength of the opposing team’s defense.

Stay active in trades
Be open to trading players with other teams if it will benefit your team. Analyze the potential impact of a trade before making a decision and negotiate with other teams to find a mutually beneficial agreement.

Be prepared for bye weeks
Plan ahead for bye weeks by having backup players ready to fill in for your starters. Avoid having too many players with the same bye week, which can leave your team short-handed.

Don’t overreact to one bad week
Avoid overreacting to one bad week of performance by a player. Take a long-term view of their performance and evaluate their potential moving forward.

Continuously evaluate your roster
Continuously evaluate your roster throughout the season and make adjustments as needed. Be willing to drop underperforming players or make changes to your lineup if necessary.
