Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets for Deep Leagues
Matt Breida (RB – NYG) | 1% Rostered on Yahoo, 1% Rostered on ESPN
Typically, when a lead back suffers an injury, we run to waivers to grab the handcuff. It’s an easy recommendation and typically a “plug-and-play” move. There’s just one slight issue with adding Matt Breida. If Saquon Barkley is out for one week, it’s tough to start Breida against the 49ers defense. Volume is king, and Breida could see a hefty workload. In deep leagues, that volume is worth the risk.
In shallow leagues, you wind up with a performance like Joshua Kelley‘s 3.9 fantasy points. If Barkley’s injury keeps him out for multiple games, there are some very friendly games on the Giants’ schedule after San Francisco. Monitor news around the severity of Barkley’s injury and adjust your FAAB accordingly.
DeVante Parker (WR – NE) | 2% Rostered on Yahoo, 4% Rostered on ESPN
Kendrick Bourne was on my waiver wire list last week, and although his day was unproductive from a fantasy perspective, he had the largest target share and appears to be a mainstay within the Patriots’ receiving corps. Despite the low fantasy score, he’s still worthy of a roster spot. But Bourne is not the only receiver to roster for the Patriots. DeVante Parker returned to action this week and should be added in deep leagues. Mac Jones came back down to reality, but Parker had six receptions on eight targets for 57 yards. JuJu Smith-Schuster‘s production continues to underwhelm. Parker, Hunter Henry and Bourne are the pass catchers to roster in this offense.
Kylen Granson (TE – IND) | 0% Rostered on Yahoo, 0% Rostered on ESPN
Streaming tight ends can be an exhausting process. All you need is a double-digit PPR point performance to get a TE1, and yet it’s so difficult to find. Kylen Granson is emerging as a potential streaming option at tight end. Granson has shown promise in the past, but Indianapolis has utilized multiple tight ends over the past several years, which limits upside and makes it difficult to trust any Colts’ tight end. But Granson is separating himself from the pack with four receptions in Week 1 and three receptions with one touchdown in Week 2. Granson is a mid-tier TE2 with potential for development.
Josh Downs (WR – IND) | 2% Rostered on Yahoo, 1% Rostered on ESPN
Michael Pittman Jr. is the clear WR1 in Indianapolis, but Josh Downs is asserting himself as the WR2 for the Colts. Downs’ production has yet to hit double-digit fantasy points, but he’s had a strong snap count and steady targets. Downs is primarily operating out of the slot, giving him an edge in terms of a consistent role within the offense. His production is encouraging from a rookie, and we could see his usage increase as Anthony Richardson grows more comfortable in the offense.
Craig Reynolds (RB – DET) | 0% Rostered on Yahoo, 0% Rostered on ESPN
David Montgomery suffered a thigh contusion during Sunday’s game, and while Jahmyr Gibbs should be the primary beneficiary, Detroit has been committed to a two-back system. Craig Reynolds could have a role in Week 3 if Montgomery cannot suit up. Reynolds may seem like an off-beat dart throw, but he’s stepped up in the past when called upon and could help with early-down work if the Lions want to avoid overloading Gibbs. Reynolds is a potential low-end flex option in deep leagues if Montgomery is out.
