2024 NFL Mock Draft Risers: Quinn Ewers & Will Sheppard

2024 NFL Mock Draft Risers: Quinn Ewers & Will Sheppard

With the college football season well underway, plenty of attention is now turning towards the 2024 NFL Draft. There are players who feel like essential locks at the top of the draft such as Caleb Williams and Brock Bowers. Even though it’s still early in the entire process, it’s always fun to take a look at different mock drafts to figure out the type of buzz each player in the country is getting.

From the first round to the group of undrafted players, there’s plenty to watch. Here’s a few players that are rising and falling on 2024 NFL Mock Drafts!

2024 NFL Mock Draft Risers

Quinn Ewers (QB – Texas)

Going into this summer, there was a lot of praise from draft analysts on Quinn Ewers. Personally, when I watched the film, I saw a player that struggled to read defenses on a consistent basis. However, I was very intrigued with his release and the off platform throws that I saw from Ewers. Ultimately, I wanted him to make a believer out of me.

Through two weeks, Ewers is doing just that. Especially after this past weekend against the Alabama Crimson Tide. He went 24-for-38 with 349 yards passing and three touchdowns against the Tide. One of the most impressive stats was that despite being pressured by the Tide, Ewers still had a strong performance. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), he recorded an 88.4 passing grade when pressured.

Through the early part of the season, Ewers has shown great rapport with wide receiver Xaiver Worthy, who is also a draft-eligible prospect we’ll talk about this fall. We’ll see if that rapport continues and if Ewers continues to find similar success the rest of the way. Texas plays at home against Wyoming this weekend before having to go to Baylor in week four. As of now, Ewers is putting himself in the conversation as a QB3 and potential first round pick for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Will Sheppard (WR – Vanderbilt)

At the top of the 2024 NFL Draft, all eyes are on wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr., and Malik Nabers. Rightfully so, both players are super talented. However, people may want to start circling the name Will Sheppard from Vanderbilt.

The 6-foot-3 and 198 pound receiver is off to a fantastic start to the 2023 season. Through 3 games, he’s already up to 20 receptions, 217 yards and six touchdowns. His ability in the red-zone is real and he’s become a real threat no matter where the Vanderbilt offense is on the field.

With Sheppard, he does a terrific job high pointing the football on fade routes. Meanwhile, he’s got a flexible lower half that allows him to change direction at ease while having the necessary burst to create separation. His frame and body control is becoming a work of art for this Vanderbilt offense. Even though the tougher part of the schedule is on the horizon for Vanderbilt, there’s plenty of reason to buy into Sheppard and what he’s able to do on the football field.
