Top All-Time Fantasy Football Scoring Seasons: Overall & By Position (2023)

We all know that fantasy football is on the horizon. Whether it be an auction league or a standard snake draft, we’re all looking for that one player who could have the next big season in fantasy football. Over the years, we’ve seen some players post remarkable numbers. For example, we saw Patrick Mahomes have one of the best seasons ever for a quarterback in fantasy football history. While it’s expected, could he repeat and put himself on the list again for top-10 fantasy performances?

What about his teammate Travis Kelce? We’ve seen Kelce post top 10 fantasy football numbers a few times already, and it’s most certainly expected for him to do it again. Let’s jump into the top 10 players at the offensive positions for fantasy football and look at a few players who we could see enter the conversation for the first time.

Top 10 All-Time Fantasy Football Seasons (QB, RB, WR and TE)

Top 10 Fantasy Football Quarterback Seasons

Year Player Points
2022 Patrick Mahomes 428.4
2018 Patrick Mahomes 417.08
2019 Lamar Jackson 415.68
2022 Josh Allen 412.4
2013 Peyton Manning 409.98
2021 Josh Allen 402.58
2011 Aaron Rodgers 397.18
2020 Josh Allen 396.06
2001 Kurt Warner 390.04
2007 Tom Brady 390.04

At this rate, it shouldn’t be surprising to see the name of Patrick Mahomes at the top of the list. As we know, he’s taken over the NFL with his phenomenal performances on a weekly basis. Last season, he led the NFL in passing touchdowns (41) and passing yards (5,250), and there’s no reason to believe he won’t do it again this year.

One player who might beat Mahomes as the top fantasy quarterback for 2023 is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. He’s surprisingly been on this list for three straight years, and with how balanced he is as a passer and rusher, he should be one of the top performers on a weekly basis. Other quarterbacks who could find their names on this list in the future are Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts and Justin Fields. If healthy, we could certainly see Lamar Jackson back on this list.

Top 10 Fantasy Football Running Back Seasons

Year Player Points
2006 LaDainian Tomlinson 481.1
2019 Christian McCaffrey 471.2
2003 Priest Holmes 445
2002 Priest Holmes 442.7
2001 Marshall Faulk 423.7
2016 David Johnson 407.8
2009 Chris Johnson 392.9
2010 Arian Foster 392
2018 Saquon Barkley 385.8
2017 Todd Gurley 383.3

Nothing has changed with this list from last year other than disgruntled running backs and their contract situations. I’ll save the contract conversation for another day. The only two players who got close to touching the list were Austin Ekeler and Christian McCaffrey. While it’ll almost be impossible for any running back to touch what LT did in 2006 or CMC did in 2019, it feels almost like players such as Priest Holmes and Marshall Faulk are untouchable as well.

I do think there will be a few running backs this season who could find themselves somewhere in the top 10. Two players who instantly come to mind are McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley. Two potential wildcards could be Tony Pollard and Rhamondre Stevenson. For Pollard, he just needs more touches, and Stevenson needs to be better utilized in the red zone. We’ll see if there are any surprises from this group, but overall, I think we’ll see similar production across the board.

Top 10 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Seasons

Year Player Points
2021 Cooper Kupp 439.5
2007 Randy Moss 385.3
2002 Marvin Harrison 384.2
2015 Antonio Brown 382.3
2014 Antonio Brown 380.8
2003 Randy Moss 376
2019 Michael Thomas 374.6
2022 Justin Jefferson 368.6
2011 Calvin Johnson 359.2
2020 Davante Adams 358.4

The 145 receptions and 1,900+ yards from Cooper Kupp in 2021 will be very tough to beat. There’s certainly a chance that Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson comes close, as he is the focal point of the Vikings’ offense. But again, those totals will be tough if there’s a one-off week. However, we’ve seen a new receiver added to this list over the last three seasons. Last season it was Justin Jefferson, and he’d actually be higher on this list, but he was limited to just eight touchdowns.

If it’s not Jefferson, who else could it be? Players such as Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill and CeeDee Lamb seem to be obvious choices. The surprise pick that could crack this top-10 list is Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Everything I’ve seen from him so far this year in training camp is different from anything we’ve seen from him so far in his career. Last season he had 106 receptions for 1,161 yards and sox touchdowns.

Top 10 Fantasy Football Tight End Seasons

Year Player Points
2011 Rob Gronkowski 330.9
2022 Travis Kelce 316.3
2020 Travis Kelce 312.7
2013 Jimmy Graham 303.5
2021 Mark Andrews 301.1
2018 Travis Kelce 294.6
2009 Dallas Clark 271.7
2004 Tony Gonzalez 270.3
2014 Rob Gronkowski 266.4
2008 Tony Gonzalez 261.8

Last season we saw an exceptional year from Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. He had 110 receptions for over 1,300 yards, and he scored 12 touchdowns. One of the key factors to the Chiefs’ offense, it’s hard to picture Kelce not having a similar season in 2023. There are some question marks at wide receiver, and it’s tough for any linebacker or safety to cover the talented tight end.

While Kelce continues to add his name to the mix of Rob Gronkowski and Tony Gonzelez, could we see another name get added to the list above? Mark Andrews had a strong season last year despite Lamar Jackson only being limited to 12 games. In 2021, Andrews found himself on the list with just over 300 total fantasy points.

If the Ravens’ offense is healthy, he could find himself up there again. It’ll be interesting to see what the Vikings do with T.J. Hockenson but with so much of their offense being filtered through Justin Jefferson, his production could be limited. Regardless, your fantasy football priority for tight ends should be Travis Kelce and then everyone else.
