Jameson Williams will not have elite hands, per Dan Campbell

Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell stated Thursday that Jameson Williams will “never probably be like one of these elite pass-catchers that you’ve seen, but it’ll be just fine with his speed.” (Source: Freep Sports on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Williams struggled with drops last season, tallying three drops in just six games. The 22-year-old has also struggled with drops and has been inconsistent throughout camp. With Williams set to serve a six game suspension, the team is going to give him plenty of reps in the preseason and fantasy managers will need to see more consistency from the speedy wide receiver.

Kellen Mond to start Hall of Fame Game for Browns

According to Steve Wyche of NFL Network, QB Kellen Mond will start on Thursday for the Cleveland Browns in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game over rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson. (Source: Steve Wyche on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Mond spent his rookie season in Minnesota after being drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He struggled to see the field, playing as the team’s third QB behind Sean Mannion. Mond was waived by Minnesota in 2022 and then claimed by Cleveland shortly after but has not played a regular-season snap for the Browns. QB Joshua Dobbs is not expected to play and is expected to be the team’s QB2, so Mond will get an opportunity to make a claim for that spot. Rookie Thompson-Robinson will play the second half.

J.K. Dobbins: Harbaugh uncertain when RB will return

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that he talked to RB J.K. Dobbins, who is currently on the PUP list and has missed a week of practice, on Tuesday night and does not know when he will return to the field. (Source: Sarah Ellison on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Dobbins has a history of injury, including a pre-season injury that cost him his entire sophomore season and part of his third year in the NFL. Dobbins is also looking for a new contract, as he is entering the last year of his rookie deal. Harbaugh says both he and Dobbins are on the same page about wanting to return to the field, but an exact date is unclear for both parties. It appears as though Dobbins may be conducting a hold-in to earn that next deal, which brings immediate concern for fantasy managers that it could last into the regular season. If he misses time, RB Gus Edwards — who is quietly one of the most steadily contributing RBs in the NFL — would see an increased role as the team’s RB1.

Kenyan Drake works out with Colts Wednesday

According to Field Yates of ESPN, free agent RB Kenyan Drake tried out with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday alongside RBs Benny Snell and Devine Ozigbo. (Source: Field Yates on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: After recording three straight 1,000-scrimmage-yard seasons between 2018 and 2020, 29-year-old Drake has found himself bouncing around as a rotational back. With the Raiders and Ravens over the last two seasons, Drake has 1,116 scrimmage yards on 4.3 yards per rush attempt and 8.1 yards per reception, all solid production marks. If he signs with the Colts, he’ll provide a veteran option to the currently injured Zack Moss as well as backup RBs Evan Hull and Deon Jackson, under the assumption that the ongoing Jonathan Taylor saga continues to go south.

Patriots managing Rhamondre Stevenson’s workload

Rhamondre Stevenson has spent three of the first seven practices working out on a separate field as the team looks to limit his workload to start training camp. (Source: Doug Kyed)

Fantasy Impact: Stevenson himself is unsure of exactly why he is being held out of practices, and his absence has given Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris additional opportunities. The team has also brought in marquee veteran running backs for visits but have not replaced James Robinson after his release prior to training camp.

Ty Chandler lacking consistency early in camp

Ty Chandler has reportedly lacked consistency early in training camp with the Vikings. (Source: The Athletic)

Fantasy Impact: With Alexander Mattison leaving practice early on Tuesday, Chandler saw more reps and he fumbled once. Seventh-round rookie DeWayne McBride is also competing for a role, but it is expected to be tougher for him to catch up to the whole offense. It is still possible the Vikings sign one of the veteran free agent running backs available, but for now Mattison still appears to be the clear lead back for Minnesota heading into Week 1.

Bryce Young unconcerned with early interceptions in camp

Panthers QB Bryce Young and HC Frank Reich remain unconcerned despite the rookies turnover problems early in camp. (Source: ESPN.com)

Fantasy Impact: Young threw an interception for the fourth straight practice on Tuesday as the Panthers continue to work on red zone offense. “I’m big on controlling what I can control and turn the page,” Young said. He remains on track to start for Carolina in Week 1 next month.

Jahan Dotson off to a fast start in camp

Jahan Dotson has been turning heads in Washington camp thus far and could be in line for a big season, according to ESPN.com’s John Keim. (Source: ESPN.com)

Fantasy Impact: Dotson has been connecting with quarterback Sam Howell throughout camp. On Tuesday, Dotson showed off his route-running skills and had little trouble gaining separation. Dotson sets up as a quality WR3 target in fantasy drafts heading into the 2023 season.

James Cook seeing heavy work in passing game

James Cook is seeing heavy work in the passing game through the first week of the Bills’ training camp, catching five of Josh Allen’s 12 completions during Tuesday’s team drills. (Source: The Athletic)

Fantasy Impact: The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia wrote that Cook was Buffalo’s best offensive player on the first team during Tuesday’s practice session. Buscaglia is predicting that Cook is in line to see at least half of the Bills’ offensive snaps if he continues to play well in camp. The news out of Buffalo for Cook has been all positive early on. He could finish as an RB1 in fantasy if he is in fact heavily involved in the high-powered Buffalo offense this season.

Alvin Kamara expected to face suspension, length unknown

Alvin Kamara is expected to be suspended by the NFL, but the length of the suspension is still to be determined. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Kamara is expected to meet with Roger Goodell on Wednesday at which point we should know how long Kamara will be suspended. This will be a situation to monitor over the next 24 hours or so.

Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) expected to be cleared for contact by August 20

Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco is expected to be cleared for contact by August 20. (Source: James Palmer on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Pacheco’s hand is reportedly all good. It is his shoulder that still needs to be cleared. Nonetheless, he remains on track to be fully healthy heading into Week 1.

Cooper Kupp (hamstring) expected to miss a few weeks

Cooper Kupp is expected to miss a few weeks after an MRI revealed a hamstring injury. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The team is going to be cautious with their star wide receiver this early in training camp. It appears the Rams and fantasy managers avoided losing the 30-year-old to a long term injury considering he is expected to only miss a few weeks and could be back for scrimmages, per Adam Schefter’s reporting. Kupp currently ranks as the WR3 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.

Javonte Williams (knee) not being limited with reps in camp

Javonte Williams has taken the majority of reps so far in Broncos training camp. (Source: James Palmer on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Williams noted it has been the coaching staff that has wanted to hold him back, but he hasn’t been limited so far according to reports after being cleared to practice in pads. Williams also mentioned he will get the day off on Wednesday as players returning from ACL injuries practice two days in full pads and get the third day off. It is always tough with running backs coming off torn ACLs as Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles are the only running backs to post huge seasons the year after in recent history. With that being said, Williams seems to be ahead of schedule in his recovery and could be close to full strength by Week 1.

Tim Patrick out for season with torn Achilles

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Denver Broncos WR Tim Patrick was confirmed to have a torn Achilles by head coach Sean Payton, effectively ending his season. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Patrick missed the 2022 campaign due to a torn ACL that cost him a season. Now, for the second season in a row, a preseason injury has taken away a year for Patrick. Before injury, Patrick had consecutive seasons of at least 50 catches, 700 yards and five touchdowns. Patrick will be 30 during the 2024 season and removed from two major injuries, making the likelihood of him returning to fantasy relevance unfortunately low.

Tank Bigsby impressing in short yardage situations

Tank Bigsby is excelling in short-yardage situations at training camp. He is showing impressive acceleration and ability to hit the hole with power in red zone drills. (Source: Sports Illustrated )

Fantasy Impact: Jacksonville drafted Bigsby with the hope he could complement starter Travis Etienne, with Bigsby as the hammer to Etienne’s speed. So far, the Jaguars look to have hit the jackpot. Bigsby appears to be a capable backup with potential every-week flex appeal if he gets between 9-12 touches per week.

Michael Thomas: ‘moving toward 100%’

Michael Thomas is “addicted to perfection,” as he tries to return to his former All-Pro self. The 2019 OPOY is still trying to return to his former self. (Source: Katherine Terrell, ESPN)

Fantasy Impact: After leading the NFL in catches in both 2018 and 2019, Thomas has been dealing with injuries that have forced him to miss all but 10 games over the past three seasons. Thomas missed most of last season with a toe injury, and it is fair to wonder whether the now 30-year-old is washed up. However, the talent Thomas possesses speaks for itself, and with Derek Carr in New Orleans if Thomas can stay on the field there should be ample opportunities for him, especially considering the uncertainty around Alvin Kamara in the run game. Thomas is a high-upside gamble of a pick in redraft formats with a slight boost in PPR given his past success as a catch machine.

Ronald Jones suspended two games Monday

The NFL has suspended Ronald Jones two games for violating the league’s PED policy. (Source: Around the NFL on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Jones figured to enter the 2023 season as the number two or three running back in the Cowboys’ offense. The suspension likely allows rookie Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis to enter the season with a bigger role as the backups to Tony Pollard.
Jesse Garcia

KJ Hamler set to be waived by Denver

The Broncos are planning on waiving WR KJ Hamler with a non-football illness designation. The team is hopeful to bring him back once he is healthy. (Source: Mike Garafolo on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Hamler shared on his Instagram that he began having chest pains while working out prior to training camp. Hamler was diagnosed with mild heart irritation, or pericarditis. The team does not believe that his condition is serious and he is expected to only miss a few weeks. With the injury to Tim Patrick in practice Monday, the team needed to free up a roster spot to bring in another healthy wide receiver.
Jesse Garcia

Alvin Kamara set to meet with Roger Goodell

Alvin Kamara is planning on meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell regarding his offseason arrest. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Kamara and the Saints have yet to be notified by the league office on whether or not the star running back will be suspended. Kamara recently pleaded no contest to a charge of break of peace for his involvement in a fight at a Las Vegas nightclub in 2022. The NFL can suspended a player even if there is no criminal conviction, so Kamara’s status for the 2023 season is dependent on the outcome of his meeting with Goodell.
Jesse Garcia

C.J. Stroud putting in extra work amidst QB competition

C.J. Stroud has requested additional film to help him prepare him for the potential starting QB job, and is staying focused on getting better each day as he and Davis Mills continue to split first-team reps. (Source: Deepi Sidhu)

Fantasy Impact: While it may seem that Stroud becoming the starting QB is inevitable, the team continues to split the practice reps with the starting unit. Fantasy managers may have to wait until August 10th to know who the starter will be, which is when the Texans take on the Patriots in their preseason opener.
– Ryne Eberle

Xavier Hutchinson standing out in practice

Xavier Hutchinson has been making plays in training camp, and has coach DeMeco Ryans excited to see him improve and continue to leverage his combination of size and speed. (Source: Deepi Sidhu)

Fantasy Impact: Hutchinson and Tank Dell are two rookies looking to claim a role in the Texans’ receiver rotation, along with offseason acquisition Robert Woods and 2022 second-round draft pick John Metchie who missed his entire rookie season. Both rookies are receiving a lot of attention so far in training camp.
Ryne Eberle

Tim Patrick feared to have suffered Achilles injury

Tim Patrick was carted off the practice field on Monday after sustaining a non-contact injury, and the early fear is that the veteran WR suffered an Achilles injury, according to Broncos HC Sean Payton. (Source: James Palmer on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: There is a ton of optimism in Denver this season now that Sean Payton is in town to attempt to fix what should be a loaded offense, but this is a devastating blow for Patrick, who was attempting to come back from a torn ACL that caused him to miss the entire 2022 season. Patrick is heading for an MRI this afternoon to determine the severity of the injury. Any extended absence likely means additional opportunities for rookie WR Marvin Mims.
– Mike Maher

Zack Moss suffers broken arm in practice Monday

Zack Moss suffered a broken arm during Monday’s practice and is expected to miss about six weeks. (Source: Mike Garafolo on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: A big blow for the Colts considering their ongoing contract issues with Jonathan Taylor. The Colts currently have Evan Hull, Jake Funk, Zavier Scott, and Deon Jackson in training camp, so they will likely look to bring in another running back to provide further depth. Moss will look to hopefully be back in the first few weeks of the 2023 season.
Jesse Garcia

Javonte Williams cleared to practice in pads Monday

Javonte Williams has been cleared to practice in pads Monday. (Source: Zac Stevens on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: The Broncos are practicing in pads for the first time on Monday and Williams will be able to participate. Williams is ahead of schedule in recovery from tearing his ACL, LCL, and PCL last season. The 23-year-old will likely still have some limitations as he gets ready for the 2023 season, but this is clearly a positive sign. He currently ranks as the RB27 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.
Jesse Garcia

Kenny McIntosh getting a chance to show what he can do

Kenny McIntosh is expected to have a larger role on offense during the preseason given the injuries to Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet. The 7th-round rookie out of Georgia has been splitting 1st-team reps with fourth-year pro, DeeJay Dallas, showcasing his explosiveness at sub-200 pounds and proficiency as a receiver. Head coach Pete Carroll says he was one of the “highlighted players” during off-season activities and training camp. (Source: The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar)

Fantasy Impact: Per usual of most Georgia running backs, Kenny McIntosh had to bide his time before getting the opportunity to shine in the Bulldogs’ offense. With Zamir White and James Cook drafted to the NFL in 2022, McIntosh got his shot to perform. He led Georgia in rushing yards (824) and thrived as a receiver out of the backfield. McIntosh earned PFF’s highest receiving grade among all RBs in the FBS (86.8) due in part to compiling the second-most receiving yards among RBs (509). With solid size (listed as 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds) and a dynamite receiving profile, McIntosh could have some serious fantasy football sleeper appeal with his newfound opportunities in an injury-ridden Seattle backfield. Shouldn’t be overlooked that in 2021, McIntosh was posting better per-snap numbers than both White and Cook as both a rusher/receiver as PFF’s 8th-highest graded RB in the FBS among running backs with at least 50 carries. McIntosh can compete, and the path for touches is there for the taking in Seattle.

Jonathan Taylor could be placed on NFI list by Colts

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, the Indianapolis Colts may place RB Jonathan Taylor on the non-football injury list due to a back injury he reportedly suffered in an offseason workout; Taylor refutes the claims of a back injury, calling this report false. (Source: Ari Meirov on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Taylor hasn’t been practicing as he currently is listed on the physically unable to perform, or PUP, list. The Colts and Taylor are currently at an impasse as Taylor requested a trade after the team’s owner Jim Irsay said they would not offer an extension to Taylor, whose rookie deal is expiring after 2023. To further the stalemate, the Colts are threatening an NFI placement, for which he is eligible if he did receive an outside injury. If Taylor holds out, the Colts will not owe him any of his money in 2023. Taylor, though, refuted the back pain claim on Twitter. This saga could get uglier before it gets better, and the worry could be that this separation could be too much for the two sides to reunite.

Zach Charbonnet ‘out indefinitely’ with shoulder injury

Zach Charbonnet will be ‘out indefinitely’ with a shoulder injury, per head coach Pete Carroll. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: It’s a huge loss for Seattle, who will also be without Kenneth Walker for most of training camp and preseason due to a groin injury. Not only that, but it’s a big blow to the rookie running back, who will miss out on vital preseason reps. When healthy, he’s the clear top backup to Kenneth Walker and starter if Walker misses time. It’s a setback that he should be able to overcome, but his season might get off to a slower start than he would have otherwise.
Garrett Ball

Kenneth Walker III could be ‘out a while’ with groin injury

Kenneth Walker III could be ‘out a while’ with a groin injury, per head coach Pete Carroll. (Source: Field Yates on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: It’s a blow to the Seattle backfield, who will also be without Zach Charbonnet due to a shoulder injury. It brings uncertainty to an otherwise promising backfield. He will miss a large part of the preseason, so his ramp-up time to full speed before week one will be short if he’s able to play week one at all.
Garrett Ball

Hendon Hooker ‘a ways away’ from playing, rehab going well

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, rookie QB Hendon Hooker’s rehab for his ACL injury has gone well, but he is still “a ways away” from returning. (Source: Dave Birkett on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: It’s unclear if Hooker will play in 2023 or if he will even be a long-term option for the Lions. Detroit has gotten him involved in practices, throwing the ball and simulating game scripts, but he is still without pads playing against air. Hooker has reportedly been very involved in learning with the team and in his rehab, but the team is reportedly in no rush to get him back, even if he is “way ahead of schedule,” according to Hooker. Once he returns to real practices, the Lions can evaluate their future with their third-rounder.

Tua Tagovailoa focused on yoga, flexibility over offseason

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa told NFL Network that his emphasis on yoga and stretching over the offseason aided his flexibility, a key for injury prevention. (Source: Joe Schad on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Emphasis on flexibility as well as bulking up, which Tagovailoa reportedly did over the summer as well, will help tremendously in the young QB’s goal for injury prevention. Tagovailoa has a long injury history that stems back to college. With multiple concussion scares in 2022, Tagovailoa is focusing on his own health heading into Year 4 to keep a long-term future in the NFL possible.

Brian Robinson Jr. looks sharp, developing receiving skills

According to Ben Standig of The Athletic, RB Brian Robinson Jr. is developing his skills as an all-around back and is better than last year when he “never” felt right. (Source: Ben Standig, The Athletic)

Fantasy Impact: Robinson missed four games in 2022 after an incident that resulted in him being shot multiple times during a car break-in. Despite this, Robinson ran for 797 yards and 12 touchdowns on 3.89 yards per carry. He only caught nine passes though, and Robinson said he specifically was focusing on developing his game as a receiver. Standig said Robinson’s catching looks “legitimate” and he has looked more slithery on the field as a runner. He can be drafted on average as the half-PPR RB33.

Garrett Wilson dealing with low-ankle sprain

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, WR Garrett Wilson is dealing with a low-ankle sprain that took him out of practice early on Thursday. (Source: Brian Costello on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: A low-ankle sprain will likely take Wilson out for a couple of weeks, meaning Wilson will miss the rest of training camp and the start of the preseason. The second-year WR had 1,103 yards and four touchdowns, winning Offensive Player of the Year in 2022. With Aaron Rodgers in town, Wilson is expected to have a big season, so the Jets will want to be careful with his health.

Ezekiel Elliott visiting with Patriots Saturday

Free agent RB Ezekiel Elliott is taking a visit with the New England Patriots on Saturday. (Source: Jordan Schultz on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Elliot hasn’t been getting many looks as a free agent since being cut by the Cowboys earlier this offseason, but now the Patriots will be hosting him on a visit. The team has some very questionable depth behind starter Rhamondre Stevenson, and they may look to bring in the veteran to take some of the weight off of his shoulders. If a deal gets done, that throws a lot of cold water on the Stevenson hype that has been building for fantasy football purposes for this season.
– Leo Sells

Hunter Henry ‘clearly’ Mac Jones’ favorite target

Hunter Henry is ‘clearly’ Mac Jones’ favorite target in New England’s offense through the first few days of training camp. (Source: Evan Lazar)

Fantasy Impact: The Patriots have only been going at camp for a few days, but it seems apparent that Henry and QB Mac Jones have great chemistry. They’ve been having a lot of success together so far, and the veteran tight end seems to be solidifying himself as the young QB’s favorite target. If this trend continues through camp and into the regular season, Henry will almost certainly be a value at his TE25 average draft position.
 Leo Sells

Mike Gesicki: Patriots primarily running 12 personnel in practice

The Patriots have primarily been running 12 personnel sets in practice with TE’s Mike Gesicki and Hunter Henry. (Source: Evan Lazar)

Fantasy Impact: The Patriots signed Gesicki to a one-year contract in free agency this offseason, and the team intends to use both him and Hunter Henry to their fullest capabilities this season. They’ve primarily been running 12 personnel in practice, which means that they’ve both been on the field at the same time. We saw OC Bill O’Brien have a lot of success doing this in his previous stint with the Patriots, so both of these tight ends could end up having fantasy value if they can recapture that magic.

Jayden Reed settling into slot role for Packers

Jayden Reed has primarily been playing out of the slot at practice and is settling into that role. (Source: Mike Spofford)

Fantasy Impact: The Packers have high hopes for Reed in his rookie year this season after using a second-round pick on him in the NFL Draft, and it seems like he’s getting used to his new role in the slot. This could lead to him getting a high volume of targets at a short depth, which will help provide a safety blanket for QB Jordan Love while also propping up the rookie’s fantasy value in PPR formats.

Dalton Kincaid seeing consistent targets in Bills’ practice

The Bills’ rookie tight end, Dalton Kincaid, has been seeing consistent targets from QB Josh Allen in practice, according to The Athletic. (Source: Joe Buscaglia, The Athletic)

Fantasy Impact: The early targets for Kincaid from his new QB are a great sign for the chemistry between the two, as the season approaches. Rookie tight ends have a poor track record in general, and fantasy football is no exception, but if Kincaid can get a rapport going with Allen he could be serviceable at fantasy’s weakest position. Kincaid may be worth a late-round flyer and has an obvious upside in dynasty formats.

Russell Wilson ’trimmed down,’ could run more this season

According to James Palmer of NFL Network, Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson has “trimmed down” and hinted he could use his legs more in 2023, something head coach Sean Payton has encouraged in camp. (Source: James Palmer on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Wilson has always been a mobile quarterback, but he has always prioritized keeping his eyes downfield and scrambling to create the pass, not for the sake of running for yards. Wilson ran for 460 yards in his last two seasons combined, a mark he cleared in five of his first six seasons. With age, Wilson has been less of a running threat, but if he brings it back to his game, it makes him an intriguing fantasy prospect, especially if he shed weight to make himself faster.

Diontae Johnson leaves camp early for heat-related reasons

According to Jeff Hathhorn of 93.7 the Fan, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that WR Diontae Johnson’s early departure from practice was for heat-related reasons. (Source: Jeff Hathhorn on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Fortunate for Steelers fans that Johnson did not suffer any kind of injury but instead left for manageable reasons. Johnson, a one-time Pro Bowler, is entering his fifth NFL season off an 882-yard, no-TDs campaign. With the ascension of QB Kenny Pickett, Johnson will likely regress back to the mean, meaning a better season than 2022 is coming up soon. He can be drafted at a half-PPR price of WR34, according to FantasyPros’ ADP data.

Joe Burrow out several weeks with calf strain

Joe Burrow will be out for several weeks with a calf strain he suffered in training camp this week. While unfortunate, it’s good news that he avoided a major injury. (Source: Albert Breer on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Burrow will likely miss most, if not all, of training camp with the injury. He could come in late in the preseason to shake off rust and get back into the flow of the game, but he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL at the moment, and this injury should not make fantasy managers hesitate to draft him. He’s a rock-solid QB1.
Garrett Ball

Allen Robinson seeing reps in the slot

Allen Robinson saw starting reps in the slot Thursday when the Steelers deployed 11 personnel. (Source: Brian Batko on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Contributing from the slot is likely Robinson’s best path to production in 2023, with Diontae Johnson and George Pickens taking the No.1 and No.2 WR spots. In 2022, Robinson’s slot/perimeter snap split was almost 50/50, but scored more fantasy points from the slot.
Ryne Eberle

Cooper Kupp not being limited in training camp

Cooper Kupp has no limitations in training camp after undergoing an ankle procedure late last season. (Source: Jourdan Rodrigue on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Kupp had to get tightrope surgery on his ankle last year after suffering a high-ankle sprain, but he has had plenty of time to recover and is now participating at camp without any limitations. His health and the health of QB Matthew Stafford are the two main concerns for his fantasy production this season, but we’ve been getting positive news on both fronts, which adds some stability to the veteran as a top-ten overall player in most leagues.
Leo Sells

Travis Etienne Jr. impressing as pass catcher in camp

Travis Etienne Jr. has been impressive when showing off his pass-catching ability so far in training camp. (Source: John Shipley)

Fantasy Impact: Jacksonville has only been practicing for a few days, but Etienne has already been impressing his coaches with his pass-catching prowess. That was one of the skills he had that made him such a highly-touted recruit coming out of college, but he wasn’t used as heavily in the passing game last season as many had hoped. If he earns more of a role in that area this season, we could see his value shoot up in PPR league formats ahead of fantasy football drafts.
– Leo Sells

Jaxon Smith-Njigba earns early praise from Geno Smith

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has earned early praise from QB Geno Smith after his impressive start to training camp. (Source: Michael-Shawn Dugar)

Fantasy Impact: Smith-Njigba, who was a first-round pick for the Seahawks in the 2023 NFL Draft, has been the talk of Seattle’s training camp after making multiple impressive plays in the first few days that they’ve been practicing. He earned praise from starting QB Geno Smith, which is a great sign for his development and role on the team. We could see the rookie become a key part of this offense sooner rather than later if he can continue on his current trajectory for the season.
– Leo Sells

Justin Herbert expected to throw the deep ball more this season

Justin Herbert is expected to throw more deep balls in 2023. (Source: ESPN)

Fantasy Impact: Herbert was somewhat of a disappointment in fantasy football leagues last season, and one of the main problems was that he rarely got big plays down the field. This year, the Chargers brought in Kellen Moore to be their offensive coordinator, and all signs at camp point to the team throwing more deep balls this season. This is a good sign for the young quarterback, and he has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league if he and his receivers can stay healthy all season.
– Leo Sells

Calvin Ridley impressing early at camp

Calvin Ridley has been impressive throughout the first few days of Jacksonville’s training camp. (Source: John Oehser)

Fantasy Impact: Ridley hasn’t seen the field in over a year after he was suspended for a gambling incident, but all reports out of camp indicate that he looks great and is impressing the coaching staff. He has proven to be an elite fantasy contributor in the past, and he could be a great value at his ADP if he can continue to impress in camp and build chemistry with QB Trevor Lawrence.

Amari Cooper returns for individual drills Friday

Amari Cooper will return to practice on Friday to participate in individual drills. (Source: Mary Kay Cabot on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Cooper has been sidelined at practice for the past few days because of a ‘minor tweak’, but he seems to be getting healthier and he’ll be available to participate in individual drills on Friday. There was never serious concern about the veteran’s injury, but it’s still reassuring for fantasy managers to see him back on the field this soon.

C.J. Stroud: Texans not naming rookie QB the starter just yet

The Texans have not yet named rookie C.J. Stroud the starting quarterback for the 2023 season. (Source: Aaron Wilson)

Fantasy Impact: Houston is reportedly in no rush to name a starting quarterback, despite taking C.J. Stroud with the second-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He’s reportedly splitting first team reps with veteran Davis Mills right now, and it’s unclear when the team intends on announcing their starter. The rookie will probably end up being the starter for the Texans, but it’s less than ideal that he’s not getting all of the quality reps at practice.

Dalvin Cook visiting New York Jets

Dalvin Cook is flying to New York today, and will visit the Jets this weekend.

Fantasy Impact: Landing with the Jets has been speculated since the Vikings released Cook, but a trip to visit the team may mean a deal is getting closer to coming to fruition, especially combined with the recent news of Breece Hall being placed on the PUP list. Rookie Israel Abanikanda is an intriguing fantasy option this offseason as Hall’s situation plays out, but both of those players’ ADP would be impacted if Cook were to sign with the team. Hall, Abanikanda and Cook are being drafted as the RB11, RB69 and RB21 according to FantasyPros consensus ADP.

Darren Waller showing strong connection with Daniel Jones

Darren Waller has been showing a strong connection with QB Daniel Jones so far in training camp. (Source: Connor Hughes on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The Giants traded for Waller early on this off-season, and he’s already developing great chemistry with QB Daniel Jones. He’s been dominating in the middle of the field and in the red zone at practice and is already proving to be one of the best receiving threats they’ve had in years at training camp. If he can keep this momentum going as we draw closer to the season, he could end up being a bargain at his current ADP for fantasy drafts.

Garrett Wilson (ankle) exits practice early

Garrett Wilson exited Thursday’s practice early and is being evaluated for an ankle injury. (Source: Rich Cimini on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Wilson was able to jog off the field towards the team trainers and head coach Robert Saleh believes that Wilson will be fine moving forward. While he may miss a few days of practice with the injury, it does not sound like the ankle injury is anything that would keep the 23-year-old out long term.

Elijah Moore could see work out of Browns’ backfield

Elijah Moore could see work out of the Browns’ backfield and head coach Kevin Stefanski views him as “positionless.” (Source: Scott Petrak on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Moore showed flashes in his rookie year but was plagued with inconsistent playing time with the Jets. The 23-year-old has a chance to see considerable playing time if the Browns are looking to use him in multiple wide receiver sets and out of the backfield. Moore currently ranks as the WR46 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.

Aaron Rodgers agrees to restructured contract with Jets

The Jets signed Aaron Rodgers to a new two-year, $75 million guaranteed contract through the 2024 season. (Source: Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Rodgers had nearly $110M guaranteed remaining on his old deal in Green Bay. He is taking a bit less money to open up some cap space for the Jets with this new deal. There are already rumblings that this money could be used to sign a free agent like RB Dalvin Cook.

Anthony Richardson works with second team Wednesday

First-round rookie QB Anthony Richardson ran with the second-team offense on Day 1 of the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp on Wednesday. (Source: Mike Chappell on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Richardson, only a one-season starter at QB for the Florida Gators, is still relatively inexperienced at the position compared to his 2023 NFL Draft contemporaries. As a result, the Colts may take it slower with Richardson, a toolsy, high-upside quarterback, to avoid building any bad habits early in his career. Richardson’s athleticism and size will make him a dual threat when he does get on the field. He is going on average as the QB1 in fantasy rookie drafts.

Trey Lance first in 49ers QB rotation

Trey Lance was first in the 49ers’ rotation of QBs in practice today. The other two quarterbacks who rotated reps with Lance were Sam Darnold and Brandon Allen. (Source: Nick Wagoner on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: While it’s nice to see the 49ers give Lance the first shot at practice, it should be noted that Brock Purdy wasn’t at practice today. San Fransisco is managing Purdy’s pre-season workload as he recovers from an elbow injury he suffered in the NFC Championship game. Purdy is still the favorite to enter week 1 as the team’s starter, but the 49ers have invested a lot into Lance. If he impresses during camp, it’s possible he gets a second chance to take the helm as starting quarterback of the offense. Until we get more clarification on Purdy’s injury and the quarterback battle, this situation will remain murky.

Tee Higgins practicing despite desire for new contract

Bengals WR Tee Higgins is at practice on Wednesday and participating despite no contract extension yet. (Source: Kelsey Conway on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Higgins is entering the final year of his deal with the Bengals. It is a situation worth monitoring to see if the two sides can come to an agreement on a new contract soon, but it appears Higgins will continue to practice either way.

Zach Ertz to begin training camp on PUP

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, veteran TE Zach Ertz will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list for the Arizona Cardinals. (Source: Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Ertz suffered a knee injury that halted his 2022 campaign after just 10 games. Ertz had 406 yards and four scores in his Age-32 season. As Ertz gets older, second-year TE Trey McBride is expected to step up for Arizona, and if Ertz misses time to start the year, McBride could see increased work in 2023.

Bryce Young announced as Panthers’ ‘QB1’

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich confirmed that top-pick rookie QB Bryce Young is the team’s “QB1.” (Source: Ari Meirov on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: This was fully expected to be the truth eventually, but it was uncertain if Young would start Week 1 or if Andy Dalton would see the field first. Young will get the chance to develop on the field early in his career as the Panthers enter a new phase for the franchise. Dalton will play the backup QB role. Young’s average draft position is QB19.

Kyler Murray (knee) placed on the PUP list

Kyler Murray (knee) has been placed on the PUP list to begin training camp. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: The move does not come as a surprise considering Murray suffered a torn ACL in December. Murray will likely be unavailable to start the season despite setting a goal in the offseason of returning in Week 1. If the 25-year-old can return to form, he will continue to be a difference maker for fantasy managers.

Kyle Pitts beings training camp with a knee brace on

Kyle Pitts is participating in Falcons’ training camp with a knee brace on. (Source: Mike Rothstein on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: The news is not a surprise as Pitts continues to recover from MCL surgery. Pitts did not practice in OTAs, so this is a great sign for the Falcons and fantasy managers. The 22-year-old currently ranks as the TE5 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.

John Metchie III cleared to start training camp

John Metchie III has been cleared to participate in training camp, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Metchie suffered a strained hamstring during OTAs and there was concern that he would not be ready for training camp. The 23-year-old wide receiver now has a chance to build chemistry with rookie C.J. Stroud in camp. Metchie currently ranks as WR77 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.

Wan’Dale Robinson starts camp on PUP list

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, WR Wan’Dale Robinson is being placed on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp. (Source: Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Robinson is recovering from an ACL injury that abbreviated his rookie season. Before his injury, Robinson had 227 yards in six games with one touchdown. The Giants have an abundance of slot receiving talent, but Robinson is part of their young core, so his roster spot is probably safe even if he has to miss time.

Sterling Shepard placed on PUP list by Giants

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard is being placed on the physically unable to perform list. (Source: Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Shepard has been a consistent presence at WR for the Giants when healthy, he just has struggled to stay on the field. Shepard’s recovery from his ACL has reportedly been going well. If Shepard is not elevated before the start of the season, he will be forced to miss four games.

Nick Bosa not expected to practice without new deal

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa is not expected to practice and may hold out of training camp if he does not receive a new contract. (Source: Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Bosa enters his fifth NFL season and is set to earn $17.859 million on his fifth-year option. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is looking for stability and security long term, as he is currently set to become a free agent after the 2023 season. Bosa will probably be a priority move for the 49ers, but his upcoming deal will likely result in one of the biggest contracts in NFL history for a non-quarterback.

Brock Purdy cleared for camp

Brock Purdy has been medically cleared for training camp but will be on a pitch count. (Source: Eric Branch on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: This is good news for Purdy, especially since his UCL surgery didn’t take place until March. While this is a step in the right direction for playing Week 1, his participation in training camp and the preseason will ultimately determine if he is the starting QB against the Steelers. Purdy is currently leading the 49ers QBs at QB25 according to FantasyPros consensus ADP, but former third-overall picks Trey Lance and Sam Darnold follow closely and will also compete for the starting job.

Jimmy Garoppolo to have no restrictions in training camp

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said there are no restrictions on QB Jimmy Garoppolo to start training camp. (Source: Paul Gutierrez on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: McDaniels did add the team will handle him as they would any player coming in off surgery/injury. Garoppolo avoided being placed on the PUP list and looks to be fully healthy entering training camp.
