League-Winning Wide Receivers to Target Early

Which WR From WR9 to WR25 in our consensus half-PPR ADP has the most league-winning upside?

Calvin Ridley (WR – JAC)

“Calvin Ridley has the most league-winning upside at this cost. This is a wideout who has a WR4 finish under his belt. The former Falcons’ star now joins a pass-heavy Jaguars offense with an ascending star in quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Ridley is likely to provide a major profit at his current ADP.”
Frank Ammirante (The Game Day)

Jerry Jeudy (WR – DEN)

“Jerry Jeudy could be a league-winner in 2023 if Russell Wilson returns to form. In the final five weeks (when he was playing a full allotment of snaps after injury) the Broncos WR was the WR3 overall in points per game (half-PPR) and WR4 in full PPR. In the last four games played with Russell Wilson at QB, Jeudy was averaging 18.2 PPR points per game (better than CeeDee Lamb) and 15.25 half-PPR points per game (same as Ja’Marr Chase). Tim Patrick‘s season-ending injury just further bolsters the case for Jeudy to deliver league-winning upside in 2023. ”
Andrew Erickson (FantasyPros)

Christian Watson (WR – GB)

“Christian Watson was a top-5 fantasy wide receiver in the second half of the 2022 season. Watson is playing with a new quarterback but has flashed solid chemistry with Jordan Love throughout the summer. The Packers receiving corps also play the second-easiest schedule in 2023, setting up Watson to contend for WR1 numbers. While Garrett Wilson is expected to thrive with Watson’s old signal caller, Watson offers league-winning upside and can be nabbed several rounds later in fantasy football drafts. ”
Jody Smith (FullTime Fantasy)

Garrett Wilson (WR – NYJ)

“There are a lot of appealing options in this range, but Wilson is the highest-ranked receiver of this bunch for good reason. His 147 targets last season tied him for seventh in the league in that category, and even with the poor quality of those targets from an amalgam of mediocre quarterbacks, Wilson finished with 83 catches for 1,103 yards. The 39-year-old Aaron Rodgers is past his prime but still has pinpoint accuracy. He’ll boost Wilson’s efficiency and likely help Wilson exceed his modest 2022 touchdown total (4). Wilson is far and away the Jets’ best receiver and should have a target rate befitting his alpha status. He has an exciting outlook for 2023.”
Pat Fitzmaurice (FantasyPros)

Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR – DET)

“Amon-Ra St. Brown could be the WR1 overall in fantasy this season. Last season St. Brown continued to draw targets at a ridiculous rate ranking third in target per route run rate. He was ninth in yards per route run and eighth in red zone targets. He could post double-digit receiving touchdowns this season if his late 2022 usage continues. After Week 9, St. Brown led all wide receivers in red zone targets. Add in that over their final eight games, the Lions were top 12 in neutral pace and passing rate, and we have the perfect combination for St. Brown to walk into 160-plus targets with big-time touchdown upside. ”

League-Winning Wide Receivers to Target Late

Which WR outside the Top 25 in our consensus half-PPR ADP has the most league-winning upside?

Brandon Aiyuk (WR – SF)

“Brandon Aiyuk has the most league-winning upside outside of the Top 25 WRs because he’s a great player in an elite offense. Aiyuk provides standalone WR3 value with contingent upside if Deebo Samuel or George Kittle were forced to miss time.”
Frank Ammirante (The Game Day)

Brandon Aiyuk has run a route on 95% of his team’s dropbacks since Week 9 of the ’21 season. Third behind only Diontae Johnson and Justin Jefferson. Without Deebo Samuel in the lineup for a stretch of games in 2022, Aiyuk averaged 13.2 points per game – fantasy WR1 numbers. ADP prices considered, Aiyuk is an easy bet to beat the WR30 rank. He has also missed zero games over the last two seasons…something that is not true for his three teammates (Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel) that are drafted ahead of him. If injury strikes again…Aiyuk is headed to the MOON.”
Andrew Erickson (FantasyPros)

Jordan Addison (WR – MIN)

“The Vikings added another versatile, nuanced route-runner to their potent offense in Jordan Addison. The rookie wideout is already turning heads at Vikings’ camp. He’s a lock to start on Week 1 in an offense that should rank top-3 in pass attempts. Plus, Addison is inheriting a role that accounted for the second-most routes run in 2022 and commanded triple-digit targets. Addison offers top-20 upside right away and is an excellent value at his current mid-round ADP. ”
Jody Smith (FullTime Fantasy)

Diontae Johnson (WR – PIT)

“Diontae Johnson. He finished WR8 in PPR scoring in 2021 with 107-1161-8, but he plummeted to WR28 last year with 86-882-0. Johnson won’t get skunked in the TD category again after shattering the NFL records for most targets and receptions by a wide receiver who finished with zero touchdowns. He had a zesty 26.8% target share last season and should continue to get a lot of looks as one of the better route-runners in the game. Johnson probably won’t match his 2021 numbers since the Steelers aren’t likely to be as pass-happy as they were that year, when they finished fourth in the league in pass attempts. But the 100-catch and 1,000-yard thresholds are within reach, and better TD luck could push Johnson into low-end WR1 range.”
Pat Fitzmaurice (FantasyPros)

Jaxon Smith-Njigba (WR – SEA)

“Jaxon Smith-Njigba has two paths to league-winning upside. The first is easy. If there’s an injury to D.K. Metcalf or Tyler Lockett, his stock immediately shoots to the moon. The other road that can lead Smith-Njigba to glory is simply being so good that Seattle immediately installs him as the WR1/2 on this offense. The last time we saw Smith-Njigba in a fully healthy capacity, he led the nation in yards per route run (per PFF). Talented rookie wide receivers with first-round NFL draft capital are amazing bets in fantasy. This is one I’ll keep hammering. ”
