Fantasy Football Injury Outlook: Jaylen Waddle, Dalvin Cook, Mike Gesicki (2023)

Here is the NFL Preseason Week 2 edition of the injury round-up. I will first cover the new (fantasy-relevant) injuries and finish with some updates on players who were on last week’s list. The biggest scares we had this week were Amon-Ra St. Brown and Treylon Burks, but they seem to have both come out OK. Here are all of our injuries to know for this weekend. Below is our take on a few notable players.

Fantasy Football Injury Round-Up

Jaylen Waddle (WR – MIA)

Jaylen Waddle suffered a “midsection” injury late last week. I’m not sure exactly what the injury is, but the team seems unconcerned. Assuming it’s a bruise or soreness from a hit, I don’t expect him to miss significant time.

Concern level: Low

Mike Gesicki (TE – NE)

Mike Gesicki suffered a shoulder dislocation on Aug. 14. While this sounds like a significant injury, it highly depends on how many times he’s had dislocations. If it’s the first time you dislocate your shoulder, some of the structures that help with stability get damaged, leading to more instability.

However, each subsequent dislocation causes less damage to these structures. That’s how you can see someone dislocate their shoulder, pop it back into place (reduce it) and then go right back in the game.

Concern level: Moderate

Dalvin Cook (RB – NYJ)

Dalvin Cook underwent a labral repair in February. This injury typically has a long non-contact period, so it’s no surprise or setback that he is not practicing yet. Cook is in an interesting position, as he will not have a full camp to ramp-up (although, as a vet, he may not even want that), but he will likely be getting the bulk of the work early in the season due to Breece Hall‘s ACL recovery. Overall I expect he will be ready for whatever they are going to give him Week 1, but make sure he starts participating in practices soon.

Concern level: Low to moderate
