NFL Rumors

Alvin Kamara set to meet with Roger Goodell

Alvin Kamara is planning on meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell regarding his offseason arrest.

Fantasy Impact

Kamara and the Saints have yet to be notified by the league office on whether or not the star running back will be suspended. Kamara recently pleaded no contest to a charge of break of peace for his involvement in a fight at a Las Vegas nightclub in 2022. The NFL can suspended a player even if there is no criminal conviction, so Kamara’s status for the 2023 season is dependent on the outcome of his meeting with Goodell.

Injury News

Zack Moss suffers broken arm in practice Monday

Zack Moss suffered a broken arm during Monday’s practice and is expected to miss about six weeks.

Fantasy Impact

A big blow for the Colts considering their ongoing contract issues with Jonathan Taylor. The Colts currently have Evan Hull, Jake Funk, Zavier Scott, and Deon Jackson in training camp, so they will likely look to bring in another running back to provide further depth. Moss will look to hopefully be back in the first few weeks of the 2023 season.

Tim Patrick feared to have suffered Achilles injury

Tim Patrick was carted off the practice field on Monday after sustaining a non-contact injury, and the early fear is that the veteran WR suffered an Achilles injury, according to Broncos HC Sean Payton.

Fantasy Impact

There is a ton of optimism in Denver this season now that Sean Payton is in town to attempt to fix what should be a loaded offense, but this is a devastating blow for Patrick, who was attempting to come back from a torn ACL that caused him to miss the entire 2022 season. Patrick is heading for an MRI this afternoon to determine the severity of the injury. Any extended absence likely means additional opportunities for rookie WR Marvin Mims.

Dalton Schultz misses practice Monday

Dalton Schultz missed practice Monday, after sustaining a minor injury in Sunday’s session. Schultz walked off on his own, and coach DeMeco Ryans said “he’ll be fine”.

Fantasy Impact

In his first season in Houston, Schultz will be one of many pass catchers that are new to the team striving to become C.J. Stroud‘s primary target. After finishing TE3 in 2021, Schultz missed two games in 2022 and finished with 577 receiving yards. He will look to get closer to 2021’s output while on a one-year contract.

Javonte Williams cleared to practice in pads Monday

Javonte Williams has been cleared to practice in pads Monday.

Fantasy Impact

The Broncos are practicing in pads for the first time on Monday and Williams will be able to participate. Williams is ahead of schedule in recovery from tearing his ACL, LCL, and PCL last season. The 23-year-old will likely still have some limitations as he gets ready for the 2023 season, but this is clearly a positive sign. He currently ranks as the RB27 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.

Marvin Jones Jr. removed from NFI list Monday

The Lions activated Marvin Jones from the non-football injury list Monday.

Fantasy Impact

Jones is set to practice for the first time in training camp Monday. He reportedly had a minor back injury that caused him to miss the first week of camp, but is good to go now. The 33-year-old ranks as WR94 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.

Rookie Watch

Kenny McIntosh getting a chance to show what he can do

Kenny McIntosh is expected to have a larger role on offense during the preseason given the injuries to Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet. The 7th-round rookie out of Georgia has been splitting 1st-team reps with fourth-year pro, DeeJay Dallas, showcasing his explosiveness at sub-200 pounds and proficiency as a receiver. Head coach Pete Carroll says he was one of the “highlighted players” during off-season activities and training camp.

Fantasy Impact

Per usual of most Georgia running backs, Kenny McIntosh had to bide his time before getting the opportunity to shine in the Bulldogs’ offense. With Zamir White and James Cook drafted to the NFL in 2022, McIntosh got his shot to perform. He led Georgia in rushing yards (824) and thrived as a receiver out of the backfield. McIntosh earned PFF’s highest receiving grade among all RBs in the FBS (86.8) due in part to compiling the second-most receiving yards among RBs (509). With solid size (listed as 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds) and a dynamite receiving profile, McIntosh could have some serious fantasy football sleeper appeal with his newfound opportunities in an injury-ridden Seattle backfield. Shouldn’t be overlooked that in 2021, McIntosh was posting better per-snap numbers than both White and Cook as both a rusher/receiver as PFF’s 8th-highest graded RB in the FBS among running backs with at least 50 carries. McIntosh can compete, and the path for touches is there for the taking in Seattle.

C.J. Stroud putting in extra work amidst QB competition

C.J. Stroud has requested additional film to help him prepare him for the potential starting QB job, and is staying focused on getting better each day as he and Davis Mills continue to split first-team reps.

Fantasy Impact

While it may seem that Stroud becoming the starting QB is inevitable, the team continues to split the practice reps with the starting unit. Fantasy managers may have to wait until August 10th to know who the starter will be, which is when the Texans take on the Patriots in their preseason opener.

Xavier Hutchinson standing out in practice

Xavier Hutchinson has been making plays in training camp, and has coach DeMeco Ryans excited to see him improve and continue to leverage his combination of size and speed.

Fantasy Impact

Hutchinson and Tank Dell are two rookies looking to claim a role in the Texans’ receiver rotation, along with offseason acquisition Robert Woods and 2022 second-round draft pick John Metchie who missed his entire rookie season. Both rookies are receiving a lot of attention so far in training camp.

Tank Dell impressing coaches at camp

Tank Dell has been impressing both coaches and fans at Texans training camp, after making several ‘exciting’ and ‘explosive’ plays and “consistently getting open” according to coach DeMeco Ryans.

Fantasy Impact

There are ample target opportunities in Houston, and Dell is making a case to become one of C.J. Stroud‘s favorite targets. Dell is currently drafted as WR82 according to FantasyPros consensus ADP, and his cost could quickly rise if this training camp performance continues.
