Saquon Barkley threatens to sit out the 2023 season
Saquon Barkley threatened to sit out the 2023 season as a way to show his worth to the New York franchise. Not satisfied with the offer the Giants made before the contract deadline, if Barkley decides to play, he will do so on the franchise tag.
Fantasy Impact
Barkley had a career resurgence in 2022, but unfortunately, it did not result in a contract. Recent holdouts have not worked out for teams giving long-term contracts to backs, being a negative return on investment. It’s a difficult road ahead for Barkley, especially if he sits out. If he does, look for the Giants to make a move on the free-agent market. If Barkley does return, then he’ll be a sure-fire RB1.

Leonard Fournette working out for Patriots Wednesday
Free-agent veteran running back Leonard Fournette is working out for the New England Patriots according to Tom Pelissero.
Fantasy Impact
Fournette is coming off a disappointing 2022 campaign in which the veteran averaged just 3.5 yards per carry for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New England’s backfield is far from certain behind No. 1 running back Rhamondre Stevenson however, offering Fournette a potential opportunity as a veteran pass-catching option out of the backfield for head coach Bill Belichick if the two sides were able to come to an agreement.

Denzel Mims traded to Detroit Wednesday
The Detroit Lions have acquired Denzel Mims from the New York Jets. Detroit will send a conditional sixth-round pick in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2025.
Fantasy Impact
Mims was set to be waived or traded after being excused from practice by the team Wednesday. With Jameson Williams suspended to begin the season, Mims should have plenty of opportunities to see the field early on. Mims did not produce much during his three seasons with the Jets, but also was not given much of an opportunity after his rookie campaign. Fantasy managers will want to see how he lines up in camp as he could be worth a late round flier.
