Tonight’s MLB DFS main slate has a dozen games and starts at 7:05 pm ET on DraftKings and FanDuel. The suggested options are narrowed to four pitchers, three stacks, three studs and three values/punts.
Tuesday's Starting Pitcher Strategy
Tonight's slate lacks entirely safe pitcher options. However, there are intriguing options for all game types. The top-ranked pitcher is the best SP1 in cash games at DK. He's also an excellent pick in GPPs at both DFS providers. The second option is a high-upside choice in GPPs. The third pitcher is the best cash game pick at FD and a value SP2 in all game types at DK. And the final listed pitcher is a compelling choice in GPPs.
Cash Game Recommendations:
Blake Snell (SD) vs. PIT
Snell's inconsistent control escaped him in his most recent start. Still, he's been on fire lately. According to FanGraphs, in Snell's previous five starts spanning 27.0 innings, he's had a 1.00 ERA, 3.23 xFIP, 1.41 WHIP, 16.7 BB%, 34.2 K% and 34.7 CSW%.
Snell is also outstanding at home. In 197.2 innings at home since 2021, Snell has had a 3.05 ERA, 3.02 xFIP, 1.10 WHIP, 9.2 BB% and 34.2 K%. So, the splits are exciting for Snell's outlook tonight.
The matchup is superb, too. The Pirates are 19th in wRC+ (96) and have a 23.5 K% versus lefties in 2023. Pittsburgh is also tied for 24th in wRC+ (88) and has a 25.4 K% on the road this year. As a result, per Betting Pros, the Padres are -275, and the game's total is 8.5 runs.
Alex Cobb (SF) vs. OAK
In Cobb's last four starts totaling 21.1 innings, he's had a 3.38 ERA, 3.94 xFIP, 1.45 WHIP, 50.7 GB%, 6.5 BB%, 16.1 K% and 28.9 CSW%. The righty's recent numbers are acceptable but not exciting. Yet, he's a stud in San Francisco. In 131.0 innings at home since 2022, Cobb has had a 2.20 ERA, 2.97 xFIP, 1.16 WHIP, 62.5 GB%, 6.6 BB% and 23.8 K%.
The veteran righty can spin a gem in a good matchup tonight. The Athletics are 25th in wRC+ (87) and have a 25.2 K% versus righties. Oakland is also tied for 24th in wRC+ (88) and has a 24.2 K% on the road this year.
GPP Recommendations:
Andrew Abbott (CIN) at MIL
Abbott is a revelation for the Reds. The rookie lefty dominated in Double-A and Triple-A this year before seamlessly transitioning to Cincinnati's rotation. In nine starts spanning 55.2 innings, he's had a 2.10 ERA, 3.44 xERA, 0.92 WHIP, 8.5 BB%, 26.8 K% and 27.6 CSW%.
Abbott has had seven quality starts in his nine turns. He's also allowed three runs or fewer eight times. The lefty's only dud was a six-run meltdown in 4.1 innings in Milwaukee. It's a little scary rolling with Abbott back at the ballpark he was hammered in. Still, he's also had two quality starts against the Brewers.
Moreover, Milwaukee is 28th in wRC+ (87) and has a 26.8 K% against lefties in 2023. And they're tied for 23rd in wRC+ (92) and have a 25.5 K% at home this season. Thus, Abbott's upside is immense tonight.
George Kirby (SEA) at MIN
In Kirby's last five starts totaling 32.0 innings, he's had a 3.09 ERA, 4.07 xFIP, 0.97 WHIP, 4.0 BB%, 22.6 K% and 27.6 CSW%. He's pitched well on the road in his young career. Kirby also dominated against the Twins in his most recent start, holding them scoreless on four hits, zero walks and 10 strikeouts in seven innings.
The Twins have an above-average offense, creating a risk for using Kirby. However, Minnesota has a 27.4 K% against righties and a 26.4 K% at home this year. And the betting info is decent. The Mariners have even betting odds, and the game's total is 8.0 runs.
Top Lineup Stacks
The Dodgers have a powerhouse offense. This year, they're third in wRC+ (117) and second in ISO (.203) against righties. They're also fourth in wRC+ (122) and second in ISO (.217) at home this season. They shouldn't have much trouble steamrolling Chris Bassitt. The veteran righty is a mess on the road this year. In 57.1 innings on the road this year, Bassitt has a 5.81 ERA and 4.72 xFIP. He's also allowed 2.35 HR/9, a .356 OBP, .563 SLG and .389 wOBA.
- Home (PETCO Park)
- Value: Low
- Risk: Low
- Game Type: Both
- Game Total/Moneyline: SD -275/8.5
The Padres haven't lived up to expectations this year. Nevertheless, they're seventh in wRC+ (112) against lefties and seventh in wRC+ (112) at home this year. They have a cushy matchup and desirable betting info, too. Rich Hill has been tattooed for a 6.41 ERA and 5.11 xFIP in his previous five starts. Pittsburgh's bullpen is also lousy, sporting the 10th-highest ERA (4.21).
- Home (Progressive Field)
- Value: High
- Risk: Medium
- Game Type: GPP
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.5 Runs/CLE -205
Cleveland's offense is the least imposing of the featured stacks. But they are a matchup-driven suggestion against Zack Greinke and Kansas City's pitiful bullpen. Greinke has been rocked for a 5.87 ERA, 5.64 xFIP and 1.76 HR/9 in his previous three starts. Furthermore, Kansas City's relievers have the third-highest ERA (5.16) this season.
- Manny Machado is dialed in. In his previous 109 plate appearances, he's had 10 homers, a .349 OBP, .333 ISO and 155 wRC+.
- In 321 plate appearances against righties this year, Freddie Freeman has a .424 OBP, .209 ISO and 161 wRC+.
- In 408 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, Ha-Seong Kim has had a .356 OBP, .173 ISO and 124 wRC+.
- Jason Heyward is having a resurgent 2023 campaign on the heavy side of a platoon. In 214 plate appearances against righties this year, he has a .360 OBP, .223 ISO and 131 wRC+.
- Obviously, gamers shouldn't use Edouard Julien on teams that include Kirby. But the rookie second baseman is a sweet target on rosters without Kirby. Julien has nine homers, two stolen bases, a .413 OBP, .268 ISO and 178 wRC+ in 168 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers in the majors this year.
- David Peralta has a 106 wRC+ against righties this year. That's not an earth-shattering mark. However, it will suffice against Bassitt's .480 wOBA coughed up to lefties on the road this season.
Tuesday's Hitter Strategy
The Dodgers and Padres should light up the scoreboard tonight and have appealing offenses to stack in all game types. The Guardians are a nifty pivot in GPPs, though.
