Fantasy Football Player Predictions: Jahan Dotson, Deebo Samuel, Jacoby Brissett (2023)

Our analysts have put together fantasy football outlooks for all fantasy-relevant players. You can find them on our player pages and via our Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR). These will be updated throughout the preseason to help you navigate your fantasy football drafts utilizing our bevy of tools, including our FREE draft simulator and cheat sheet creator. We’ll cover players in different groups to help you identify those to target and others to avoid. In this series, our analysts took a look at some of the biggest storylines from 2022 and predicted players who could fit that mold in 2023. This means hyped players who busted instead of breaking out, unheralded sleepers who finished in the top tier of their position, rookie breakouts, and more.

Previously, our analysts took a look at the most overrated and most underrated players, the top rookies, the top breakout candidates, the safest picks, the biggest questions for each NFL team, and more.

This Year’s Eno Benjamin/Keaontay Ingram

Tank Bigsby / D’Ernest Johnson / JaMycal Hasty (RBs – JAC)

This Year’s Eno Benjamin/Keaontay Ingram: A backfield we debate all draft season long about who’s the No. 2 target, but it ultimately doesn’t matter (with a No. 2 going inside the top 60 at RB).

As my colleague Andrew Erickson has noted, Travis Etienne had a higher ADP last year, coming off a season-long Lisfranc injury, than he has this year, coming off a 1,100-yard rushing season. Etienne had a 60% snap share in 2021. It’s possible that Tank Bigsby, D’Ernest Johnson or JaMycal Hasty could seize the No. 2 role and become fantasy-relevant, but Etienne is a solid incumbent, and there’s a good chance that none of the backups get enough work to warrant a roster spot on your fantasy team. – Pat Fitzmaurice

2023 Fantasy Football Best Ball Draft Advice

This Year’s Allen Robinson

Deebo Samuel (WR – SF)

This year’s Allen Robinson: WR who gets drafted as a top-24 option despite coming off a down season.

Deebo Samuel missed four games in 2022 and nine games in 2020. In the last two years alone, Samuel has dealt with ankle, knee, hamstring and groin issues. FantasyPros’ injury expert, Dr. Deepak Chona, has said that Samuel’s aggressive style boosts his injury probability by 20%. – Pat Fitzmaurice

This Year’s Brandon Aiyuk

Jahan Dotson (WR – WAS)

This year’s Brandon Aiyuk: A WR2 who outscores the WR1 (by ADP) on the same team. (Yes, you can pick Aiyuk again if you so choose.)

After Dotson returned from injury, across the season’s final five games, he offered a clear view of what a breakout sophomore season could look like. In Weeks 13-18 of last season, Dotson ranked 20th in target share (24%), third in end zone target share (50%), 17th in weighted opportunity, and 13th in yards per route run. Investing in talented second-year wide receivers is a strong bet, and he’ll give Terry McLaurin a run for the team lead in targets this season. -Derek Brown

Fantasy Football Draft Kit

This Year’s Geno Smith

Jacoby Brissett (QB – WAS)

This year’s Geno Smith: QB drafted outside the top 30 who becomes a starting fantasy QB.

Brissett could easily beat out Sam Howell for the Week 1 starting job. If he does so, he could be a streamer-worthy fantasy quarterback capable of providing a top-12 week in a pinch. Last year in Weeks 1-12, he was the QB19 in fantasy points per game, with 50% of his games as the QB16 or higher in weekly scoring. Brissett might not have a cannon for an arm, but he can accurately pepper the intermediate areas of the field, putting his playmakers in position to do what they do. Last year Brissett was third in passer rating on throws 10-19 yards (per Fantasy Points Data). There’s plenty of receiving talent on this roster for Brissett to feed in 2023. -Derek Brown
