Saquon Barkley, Giants fail to reach deal before deadline
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, RB Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants failed to reach an agreement on a long-term deal before the deadline on July 17, setting up Barkley to play on the franchise tag.
Fantasy Impact
Whether or not Barkley will play on the tag is unclear as of right now, something Garafolo alluded to in his statement. Barkley tweeted “it is what it is” after the deadline passed after the two sides failed to meet in the middle after months of negotiations. The Giants reportedly were actively conversing with their veteran RB who had a 1,650-yard season in 2022, but nothing was finalized. Barkley finished last year as the fantasy half-PPR RB6.

Josh Jacobs does not reach long-term deal with Raiders
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, RB Josh Jacobs and the Las Vegas Raiders did not come to an agreement on a long-term deal ahead of the deadline on July 17.
Fantasy Impact
Jacobs has still not signed his franchise tag tender and it is unclear what his status is in Las Vegas going forward. Without signing his tender, Jacobs is not required to be present at training camp. Some reports have suggested Jacobs is a candidate to hold out and could miss the start of the season. The veteran RB led the NFL in rushing yards in 2022 with 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns, finishing as the RB1 in standard fantasy leagues.
