Jonathan Taylor ‘healed up’ per Jim Irsay

Colts’ owner Jim Irsay stated Monday that Jonathan Taylor is “healed up.”

Fantasy Impact

Taylor was limited to just 11 games in 2023 due to a few injuries. Taylor tallied 861 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 192 attempts during that span. With a revamped offense under new head coach Shane Steichen, Taylor is poised for a potential bounce back season if he can remain healthy.

Anthony Richardson: Steichen’s call when rookie will start

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said on The Pat McAfee Show that it’s up to first-year head coach Shane Steichen when rookie QB Anthony Richardson will start in 2023, though they value getting him experience on the field.

Fantasy Impact

The Colts have QB Gardner Minshew II who could very well be the team’s starter early in the season as Richardson continues to ease his way into the league. Richardson only spent one season as a starter at Florida and is still relatively new to the position, and the Colts might value keeping him off the field early to learn and avoid establishing bad habits by playing too soon. Richardson is going as the QB14 in re-draft leagues and the QB1 in rookie drafts due to his dual-threat potential when he gets on the field despite the fact he may not start Week 1.

Gardner Minshew II could be Colts’ starter Week 1

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said on The Pat McAfee Show that veteran QB Gardner Minshew II could “play better early on” than rookie QB Anthony Richardson and that first-year head coach Shane Steichen will make the call when Richardson may supplant Minshew as the team’s starter.

Fantasy Impact

It is largely considered inevitable that early-first-round pick Richardson will be the Colts’ starter at some point, but Irsay implied that Minshew could be the team’s starter until Steichen feels like Richardson is ready. Minshew has played four seasons in the NFL, starting 24 games. He has a career TD-INT ratio of 44-15 and has shown the ability to play well when called on as a spot starter. Minshew can be drafted cheap in fantasy due to his expected limited shelf life and potentially poor offense, but he could be a late-round target in best-ball drafts due to his potential opportunity and talented weapons in Indy.
