Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: Craig Kimbrel, Will Smith, Aroldis Chapman (2023)

Welcome back to the latest edition of the “Closer Report.”

It is officially trade season, as we saw Aroldis Chapman traded to the Rangers. He has tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts so far for Texas. He appears to be the set-up man right now to Will Smith, but Smith blew a save last Monday. Chapman could get a look at some save chances if Smith blows another save.

News and Notes

In bullpens that have been committees most of the season, we’re seeing McGough and Harvey take slight edges in the Diamondbacks and Nationals bullpens. Andrew Chafin blew a save opportunity Wednesday night, while McGough has recorded five saves since June 17.

Kimbrel has allowed three innings in his last 23 innings pitched. Jose Alvarado has been in more of a set-up role since being activated off the IL.

Hicks earned the save on Thursday after blowing a save on Wednesday. He continues to hold a slight edge for the lead in saves in the Cardinals bullpen.

Trevor May appears to have a slight edge in the Athletics bullpen, but the save chances don’t come often in Oakland.
