6 Fantasy Football Players Trending Up & Down (2023)

We are almost there, everyone! NFL training camps start in less than a week. From there, the regular season is just around the corner. Several players will see their fantasy value change during training camp and the preseason. However, let’s look at which players have seen their fantasy stock go up or down over the past few weeks.

6 Players Trending Up & Down (2023 Fantasy Football)

Trending Up

Romeo Doubs (WR – GB)

Last year Doubs was a popular sleeper candidate following his impressive training camp and preseason. However, he ended his rookie year as the WR76, averaging 6.2 half-point point per reception (PPR) fantasy points per game. When the Packers traded away Aaron Rodgers this offseason, the fantasy community got turned off by Green Bays’ receiving core. Yet, Doubs’ fantasy value is on the rise. Reportedly the second-year receiver has become Jordan Love‘s go-to guy. Furthermore, head coach Matt LaFleur recently praised Doubs, saying he is taking the “next step.” While he won’t pass Christian Watson as the team’s No. 1 wide receiver, Doubs is a steal at his current average draft position (ADP).

Skyy Moore (WR – KC)

The Chiefs traded away Tyreek Hill last offseason and lacked a clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver on the roster. Unfortunately, Moore struggled as a rookie, finishing fourth among the team’s wide receivers in targets and fifth in routes route last year. However, Kansas City lost JuJu Smith-Schuster in free agency this offseason, opening the No. 1 wide receiver on the team. While many believe Kadarius Toney will fill that void, Moore shined during minicamp. Head coach Andy Reid recently said the young receiver is “taking a good jump” and “the quarterbacks trust him.” Moore could earn the No. 1 wide receiver role before the end of training camp.

Terrace Marshall (WR – CAR)

Unfortunately, Marshall has struggled over the first two years of his NFL career. The former LSU receiver has only 45 receptions on 77 targets for 628 receiving yards and one touchdown in 27 career games. However, the third-year receiver has impressed the new coaching staff this offseason. Marshall has made multiple plays during optional team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. Furthermore, head coach Frank Reich recently said, “he shows the capacity to kind of be a big play guy.” The former LSU receiver has also impressed Adam Thielen this offseason. The Panthers have an open competition at the wide receiver position after trading away DJ Moore in March. Marshall could surprise some people this season.

Trending Down

Malik Willis (QB – TEN)

Many believed Willis would be the long-term replacement for Ryan Tannehill when the Titans used a third-round pick on the quarterback last year. Unfortunately, he struggled as a rookie. Tennessee put the final nail in his coffin when they traded up during the 2023 NFL Draft to select Will Levis. Some reports are saying Willis has outplayed the rookie this offseason. However, other reports say the second-year quarterback’s roster spot isn’t guaranteed. Last year the Titans had only two quarterbacks on their opening-day roster. Since Tannehill and Levis are locks to make the final roster, Willis has an uphill fight ahead of him.

Josh Jacobs (RB – LV)

Jacobs had a career year in 2022. He was the RB3, averaging 17.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. However, the veteran was unhappy after the Raiders placed the franchise tag on him earlier this offseason. Sadly, the two sides haven’t had much progress on a long-term contract. Meanwhile, the franchise tag deadline is July 17. Jacobs will have to play under the franchise tag in 2023 if he doesn’t sign a long-term deal by the deadline. More importantly, the veteran has threatened to hold out Week 1. Jacobs would likely be a top-10 pick if not for the contract dispute. Currently, he is a risky draft pick that fantasy players should avoid.

Samaje Perine (RB – DEN)

When Perine signed with the Broncos earlier this offseason, everyone had high hopes for the veteran. Javonte Williams suffered a severe knee injury last year, putting his status for Week 1 this season into question. Perine averaged 7.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game last season, a career-high. Furthermore, the veteran averaged 24 touches and 17.9 fantasy points per game in the two contests without Joe Mixon. Unfortunately, for the veteran’s fantasy value, Williams says he will be cleared for the start of training camp and ready for Week 1. While Perine will still have fantasy value this year, his early season upside is now all but gone.
