5 Quarterback/Receiver Stacks To Target (2023 Fantasy Football)

5 Quarterback/Receiver Stacks To Target (2023 Fantasy Football)

While your fantasy football team is made up of a group of players from different teams, sometimes having a combination of players from the same team can be beneficial. This is sometimes referred to as “stacking.”

Specifically, stacking a quarterback and one of his receivers can take your team to a whole new level and lead you to a championship.

Patrick Mahomes/Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow/Ja’Marr Chase, Kirk Cousins/Justin Jefferson have recently been high-powered stacks that have garnered a lot of points. Those are the obvious ones, but here are others to look for in your fantasy lineup.

Quarterback/Receiver Stacks To Target This Year In Fantasy Football (2023)

Daniel Jones (QB – NYG) & Darren Waller (TE – NYG)

This is a new tandem you will want to get in on.

Daniel Jones had a breakout 2022 season in fantasy finishing as QB9 and was one of three quarterbacks (Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen) with 3,000 passing yards, 700 rushing yards, and seven rushing touchdowns.

Injuries have impacted Darren Waller’s value the last couple of years, but he was great when he was on the field in those two years, with nine top-10 TE finishes in 19 games. In his last two full seasons, he finished TE2 and TE3.

In this offense, Waller is likely to lead the team in targets.

Justin Fields (QB – CHI)DJ Moore (WR – CHI)

Fields had a breakout fantasy season finishing as the QB6 with five top-five weekly finishes, including back-to-back as the top quarterback. Most of that was done with his legs, as he was the only quarterback with over 1,000 rushing yards and was second with eight rushing touchdowns.

Most of the blame for the lack of passing was because of the offensive line that was 23rd in pass rush stop rate and last in sack rate but made moves by signing former Titans guard Nate Davis and drafting Darnell Wright. The wide receivers weren’t any better, with 19 dropped passes, the 11th-most.

Moore has lived in quarterback mediocrity since losing Cam Newton. Last year with a mixture of Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker, he was 90th in catchable target rate and 92nd in target quality rate, according to PlayerProfiler.

Moore can stretch the field, which is the receiver Fields has been looking for.

Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAC) & Calvin Ridley (WR – JAC)

The Jaguars broke through the years of mediocrity and made their first playoff appearance since 2017. Trevor Lawrence had a tough rookie season leading the league in interceptions and was QB22, but last year he surged to QB6 with eight top-10 weekly finishes.

He did this with Christian Kirk as his top receiver and had over 1,000 receiver yards, but he might be bumped for the new man in town.

Ridley hasn’t seen the field since October 2021 due to stepping away for personal reasons and a one-year suspension for sports betting. He had started to come into his own, finishing 2020 as WR5, and had 26 touchdowns in his first three seasons. He’s an above-average route runner, leading 2020 in deep targets.

We will see Ridley become Lawrence’s new favorite target.

Kirk Cousins (QB – MIN) & TJ Hockenson (TE – MIN)

Cousins and Justin Jefferson will be a popular duo this season, but with Jefferson as a potential top-five pick, you may not have the option to grab him.

Hockenson is part of the premiere tight end group as the TE3, with an overall point per reception (PPR) average draft position (ADP) of 39, so if you want this stack, you will have to start on it early. Hock was both valuable in Detroit and Minnesota, finishing as the weekly TE1 with both teams, seven overall top-ten finishes, and was the second-highest targeted tight end.

Kirk Cousins stays consistent and is the only quarterback over the last eight straight seasons to throw over 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns. With the third-highest pass-play percentage the previous year, there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to excel.

Dak Prescott (QB – DAL)Brandin Cooks (WR – DAL)

Cooks will be available later in your draft but will give you a great return.

Although Cooks has bounced around, he’s still had a successful career with 1,000+ receiving yards in six of his nine seasons. He’s done it with future Hall of Famers like Drew Brees and Tom Brady as his quarterback, but also with Jared Goff and Davis Mills.

Although the stats don’t reflect it, he didn’t see a regression in overall abilities, as he finished 13th in target separation vs. man, according to PlayerProfiler.

Although CeeDee Lamb will be the primary target for Dak Prescott, Cooks will still see ample opportunities. If he’s not the primary concern for opposing defenses, this means more one-on-one matchups and potential mismatches.
