NFL Rumors

Dalvin Cook in talks to visit the Patriots this week

Dalvin Cook is scheduled to visit with the Jets this week, but is also reportedly in talks to visit the Patriots.

Fantasy Impact

Cook remains unsigned after being released by the Vikings. The Jets seem like a likely landing spot for the veteran considering Breece Hall is on the PUP list and is still recovering from a knee injury that ended his rookie season. The Patriots would be looking to pair Cook with Rhamondre Stevenson and bolster their running back depth, considering Ty Montgomery is the only running back with multiple years of experience in the league. Cook is currently ranked as RB29 in ECR and will be an asset to any team that signs him for the 2023 season.

Dalvin Cook to visit Jets

Dalvin Cook is flying to New York today, and will visit the Jets this weekend.

Fantasy Impact

Landing with the Jets has been speculated since Cook was released by the Vikings, but a trip to visit the team may mean a deal is getting closer to coming to fruition, especially combined with the recent news of Breece Hall being placed on the PUP list. Rookie Israel Abanikanda is an intriguing fantasy option this offseason as Hall’s situation plays out, but both of those players’ ADP would be impacted if Cook were to sign with the team. Currently, Hall, Abanikanda and Cook are being drafted as the RB11, RB69 and RB21 according to FantasyPros consensus ADP.

Injury News

Jalen Ramsey (knee) to undergo surgery, will miss start of the season

Jalen Ramsey (knee) will undergo surgery on his knee and is expected to miss the start of the season.

Fantasy Impact

Ramsey went down with a knee injury during Miami’s practice on Thursday, and it’s serious enough that he’ll need surgery and will be forced to miss the start of the season. His ACL is reportedly still intact, so while this is a serious issue, it doesn’t sound like it will end his season. We’ll likely get an update on the expected timetable for his return sometime after his surgery, but this news is less than ideal for a Miami team that traded for the star cornerback just a few months ago.

Joe Burrow suffers calf injury, per Zac Taylor

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that Joe Burrow‘s injury that led to him being carted off in practice was a calf injury.

Fantasy Impact

The football world held its collective breath when they saw that Burrow was carted off during training camp. While a calf injury is not ideal, it’s better than plenty of the alternatives. It’s unclear if it’s a strain or sprain or something else, but soft tissue injuries tend to linger throughout an entire season. More news will come out in regard to the exact injury, the extent and the timeline, and then we can assess his potential status for the start of the regular season.

Garrett Wilson (ankle) exits practice early

Garrett Wilson exited Thursday’s practice early and is being evaluated for an ankle injury.

Fantasy Impact

Wilson was able to jog off the field towards the team trainers and head coach Robert Saleh believes that Wilson will be fine moving forward. While he may miss a few days of practice with the injury, it does not sound like the ankle injury is anything that would keep the 23-year-old out long term.

Allen Lazard (leg) not practicing Thursday

Allen Lazard will not participate in practice Thursday due to a leg injury.

Fantasy Impact

Lazard will sit out Thursday’s practice due to muscle tightness. Head coach Robert Saleh downplayed the injury Thursday and said it was not serious. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day as he should return to the practice field soon.

Amari Cooper not practicing Wednesday with minor tweak

Amari Cooper is not practicing Wednesday due to a “minor tweak,” per Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Fantasy Impact

Stefanski added that Cooper is getting close to returning to the practice field. It does not appear that the team is concerned about the injury and that Cooper should begin participating in practice soon. The 29-year-old currently ranks as the WR14 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.

NFL Training Camp Notes

Darren Waller showing strong connection with Daniel Jones

Darren Waller has been showing a strong connection with QB Daniel Jones so far in training camp.

Fantasy Impact

The Giants traded for Waller early on this off-season, and he’s already developing great chemistry with QB Daniel Jones. He’s been dominating in the middle of the field and in the red zone at practice and is already proving to be one of the best receiving threats they’ve had in years at training camp. If he can keep this momentum going as we draw closer to the season, he could end up being a bargain at his current ADP for fantasy drafts.

Elijah Moore could see work out of Browns’ backfield

Elijah Moore could see work out of the Browns’ backfield and head coach Kevin Stefanski views him as “positionless.”

Fantasy Impact

Moore showed flashes in his rookie year but was plagued with inconsistent playing time with the Jets. The 23-year-old has a chance to see considerable playing time if the Browns are looking to use him in multiple wide receiver sets and out of the backfield. Moore currently ranks as the WR46 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.

Russell Wilson appears comfortable with Sean Payton’s offense

Russell Wilson appears to be comfortable with Sean Payton’s offense so far in training camp.

Fantasy Impact

There’s a lot of questions about Wilson and hit ability to bounce back in 2023, but hearing some positive news out of training camp like this is a step in the right direction. Sean Payton’s offense has historically been very QB-friendly, and if Wilson can continue to thrive in his system during camp and into the preseason, we could see the ADP of both him and his pass catchers rise ahead of fantasy drafts.

Bills’ OC states James Cook has ‘three-down back’ potential

Bills’ OC Ken Dorsey stated Wednesday that James Cook has “three-down back” potential and they are excited about his versatility.

Fantasy Impact

With the loss of Nyheim Hines for the season, Cook should see additional work in the passing game in 2023. Damien Harris, Latavius Murray, and Darryton Evans are the current running backs behind Cook on the depth chart and none should pass up Cook in the pecking order for pass catching duties. The 23-year-old currently ranks as the RB32 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.
