News and Notes

  • Alexis Diaz continues to dominate in his closer role, as he has yet to blow a save this season. The Reds winning more games should only lead to more save chances for him moving forward.
  • Andres Munoz has made three appearances since being activated off the IL, recording a pair of holds. Paul Sewald appears to be the closer for the Mariners still right now, but Munoz will likely see a save chance every now and then.
  • With Liam Hendriks and Ryan Helsley placed on the IL, Kendall Graveman and Giovanny Gallegos should take over the closer role in the White Sox and Cardinals bullpens. Gallegos did blow a save on Wednesday, which is not a great start.
  • Clay Holmes has recorded three saves so far in the month of June. It is too early to say he is back to being the clear closer for the Yankees, but it is trending in that direction.
  • Rockies manager Bud Black announced Pierce Johnson was removed from the closer role. It was trending in that direction, but Black made it official. Justin Lawrence would appear to have the edge for save chances in the bullpen for Colorado.
