Dynasty Stock Report & Trade Advice: NFC North (2023 Fantasy Football)

Dynasty Stock Report & Trade Advice: NFC North (2023 Fantasy Football)

Several factors go into building a consistently elite dynasty team. One of those is identifying the top player on every NFL team. Another is knowing which players you should trade away before their fantasy value decreases.

Typically the starting quarterback is the top dynasty asset on every NFL team in superflex leagues. However, they are rarely the top asset in 1QB leagues. To help you build the best dynasty team possible, I will identify the top dynasty asset and sell candidates for every NFL team.

Today I break down the NFC North teams: the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings.

Dynasty Rookie Draft Kit

The Top Dynasty Asset

Here are the top dynasty assets for each NFC North team.

DJ Moore (WR – CHI)

After spending the first five years of his career playing with sub-par quarterbacks in Carolina, DJ Moore will now catch passes from Justin Fields. While the former Ohio State star had only 17 passing touchdowns last year, Cole Kmet was the only Bear with over 500 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Moore has been a consistent WR2 for fantasy players since his rookie year, despite playing with awful quarterbacks. The star receiver totaled at least 1,150 receiving yards or seven touchdowns in four consecutive seasons. Moore and Fields have already built a strong connection on the field. No one should be surprised if the star receiver has a career year this season.

Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR – DET)

Amon-Ra St. Brown ended his rookie season on fire. He was the WR2 over the final six weeks of the 2021 season, averaging 20.9 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Furthermore, the rookie averaged only 1.7 fantasy points per game, less than Cooper Kupp during those six weeks. St. Brown proved his rookie year success wasn’t a fluke. The former USC star was the WR8 last year, averaging 13.4 fantasy points per game. He also finished sixth in the NFL with 106 receptions. St. Brown remains the unquestioned No. 1 pass-catcher in Detroit despite the young additions.

Christian Watson (WR – GB)

Christian Watson had a slow start to his rookie season. However, the former North Dakota State star ended it playing well. Watson was the WR7, averaging 15.2 half-point PPR fantasy points per game over the final eight contests last year. Furthermore, he had the most receiving touchdowns among rookies in 2022. He also played a role in the run game, totaling two touchdowns on seven rushing attempts. While Green Bay traded away Aaron Rodgers this offseason, the team has high hopes for Jordan Love. Meanwhile, the Packers spent three day-two picks on pass catchers this year. Yet, Watson remains the clear-cut No. 1 pass-catcher in Green Bay.

Justin Jefferson (WR –  MIN)

There have been three wide receivers to finish in the top six the past three consecutive years – Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill and Justin Jefferson. However, the former LSU superstar is only starting the prime of his career. Jefferson was the WR1 last season, averaging 17.9 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Furthermore, he led the league in receiving yards (1,809). Some might worry the superstar will see his target share drop with T.J. Hockenson on the team for a full season. Yet, Jefferson averaged 1.2 more targets per game in the 10 contests with Hockenson on the team last year. While Kirk Cousins‘ long-term future in Minnesota is in doubt, the superstar is a top-two dynasty wide receiver.

The Top Sell Candidate

Here are players to consider trading away on each NFC North team.

Khalil Herbert (RB – CHI)

When David Montgomery left in free agency, Khalil Herbert’s fantasy value skyrocketed. However, the signing of D’Onta Foreman threw a wet blanket on his dynasty outlook. Unfortunately, the Bears also spent a fourth-round pick on Roschon Johnson. The former Texas running back has been one of the most talked about rookies over the past two months. The Bears are reportedly very impressed with the rookie. While he averaged 11.9 half-point PPR fantasy points per game in the five career games without Montgomery, Herbert won’t have a featured role moving forward. He could find himself getting ultimately replaced by Johnson.

Jameson Williams (WR – DET)

Should fantasy players panic sell Jameson Williams? No, but they should be skeptical. The second-year receiver missed most of his rookie season recovering from a torn ACL he suffered at Alabama. He struggled once he returned to the field. Williams played six games but had only nine targets. Yet, he only caught one of them. However, his one reception went for 41 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, Williams will miss the first six games this year because of a suspension. Can the second-year player turn his dynasty outlook around starting in Week 7? Possibly, but fantasy players should explore the trade market anyways.

Aaron Jones (RB – GB)

While the Packers didn’t have a successful season, Aaron Jones was outstanding. He was the RB9, averaging 12.9 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. The veteran also forced a missed tackle on 24.8% of his rushing attempts, a career-high. Unfortunately, Jones’ saw his yards after contact decline. He averaged 3.5 yards after contact per attempt in 2020, a career-high. However, that number dropped to 3.2 each of the past two years. The veteran will play a critical role for Green Bay this season. Yet, Jones turns 29 in December and is entering the final year of his contract. Fantasy managers should sell high on the veteran this season.

Alexander Mattison (RB – MIN)

Alexander Mattison became one of the hottest names in fantasy football after the Vikings released Dalvin Cook. The former Boise State star has averaged 18.1 half-point PPR fantasy points per game when starting for the injured veteran. Meanwhile, he had five rushing touchdowns last season, a career-high. However, now is the time to sell high on Mattison. The veteran only signed a two-year deal this offseason. More importantly, the Vikings will also use Ty Chandler and DeWayne McBride, limiting Mattison’s upside. If you can land a 2024 first-round pick for Mattison, that is a deal you should make in a heartbeat.
