After closely following all of the 2023 NFL Draft class, here are my dynasty rookie draft rankings and outlook, along with player comps, for the incoming group of quarterbacks. Whether you are in 1QB or Superflex dynasty fantasy football leagues, it’s important to know about these rookie quarterbacks. Let’s dive into my 2023 dynasty fantasy football rookie quarterback rankings and analysis.

Dynasty Rookie Quarterback Rankings

1. Anthony Richardson | Colts | 6040/244 | RAS: 10
Player comparison: Daunte Culpepper

We’ve never seen anything like Anthony Richardson. That much was confirmed by Richardson’s perfect “10” RAS score – only one of those is awarded per position. Richardson refers to himself as “Cam Jackson” – an homage to Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson. In addition to his ludicrous athletic profile, Richardson has one of the strongest arms to enter the NFL over the past decade. Richardson is as gifted as they come, but he’s also raw and inexperienced, a one-year starter who had accuracy issues in 2022.

Dynasty outlook: The ceiling is stupid – a more-athletic Josh Allen. But there’s a lot of work to do until he can approach that. Allen was a mechanical mess at Wyoming – the second he fixed that, he was a superstar. Richardson’s development plan will focus heavily on the same. Richardson’s rushing ability makes him a fantasy cheat code. I don’t care. I’m all-in.

2. Bryce Young | Panthers | 5101/204 | RAS: N/A
Player comparison: Russell Wilson

The consensus QB1 in the 2020 recruiting class. Young won the Heisman, led Alabama to a title game, and went 24-3 as starter on campus. He was PFF’s highest-graded thrower over his two years as starter, earning consecutive All-American honors. He’s a full-field reader with plus-plus accuracy who learned under former NFL HCs Nick Saban and Bill O’Brien.

Dynasty outlook: The projected starting trio of DJ Chark–Terrace Marshall–Adam Thielen fails to excite. In future offseasons, Carolina will spend significant resources to turbo-charge Young’s supporting cast – as Philadelphia did in consecutive years for Jalen Hurts, selecting DeVonta Smith in Round 1 one year and trading a Round 1 pick for AJ Brown the next. Once that happens, Young’s fantasy outlook will significantly tick up. I don’t ever see him being a top-3 fantasy quarterback because of his reticence to run – but I think he’ll be a top-10 fantasy quarterback for a long, long time.

3. C.J. Stroud | Texans | 6030/214 | RAS: N/A
Player comparison: Justin Herbert

A former five-star recruit, Stroud won the open derby to replace Justin Fields after the 2020 season. Stroud was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and a Heisman Trophy finalist both years as starter. Stroud’s completion percentage was 97th-percentile among all college quarterbacks going back to 2005. And he’s a solid athlete whose legs can be used to escape or steal yards.

Dynasty outlook: As with Young, Stroud’s fantasy ceiling is artificially capped by his unwillingness to run. Stroud absolutely has the passing chops to become a perennial top-10 fantasy QB if Houston can add the weapons around him to thrive. But don’t forget: Houston is without its 2024 Round 1 pick courtesy of the trade-up to acquire EDGE Will Anderson.

4. Will Levis | Titans | 6040/229 | RAS: N/A
Player comparison: Carson Wentz

Levis’ arm has flashes of crazy talent. The ball comes out of his hands with smoke rings when he’s trying to drive it through a window. Admirable guts in the pocket – standing tall as long as possible, willing to take the shot to uncork a ball – but those are needed because Levis doesn’t sense pressure. Danger can reach the front door quickly and unexpectedly, and Levis doesn’t tend to acquit himself well once it does.

Dynasty outlook: An argument could be made for any number of iterations of the top-3 dynasty quarterbacks from this class. However, there’s no argument at QB4 – that’s Levis. His issues sensing pressure make it reasonable to wonder if he’ll ever get there as a passer. And don’t overrate his rushing ability because he was erroneously forwarded as the next Josh Allen last fall. Levis is an upright, north-south runner who doesn’t many anyone miss or break tackles.

5. Hendon Hooker | Lions | 6035/208 | RAS: N/A
Player comparison: Jordan Love

I appreciate how Hooker keeps the ball out of harm’s way while providing a big-play threat. Hooker’s 58/5 TD/INT rate over the past two years is a testament to that. Love the way he attacks downfield. Legitimate running threat when he takes off. His mechanics have come a long way. So much of Hooker’s production comes from the scheme. How he’ll do with full-field reads in a pro-style offense at the next level is an open question. Hooker is a bit of a mechanical decision-maker.

Dynasty outlook: Other owners in your league will likely be willing to pay a higher price during your dynasty draft than Hooker is actually worth. Let them.

6. Jake Haener | Saints | 6000/208 | RAS: N/A
Player comparison: Brock Purdy

Haener is a decorated collegiate quarterback who won the Senior Bowl’s MVP award to kick off the pre-draft process.Haener’s pre-draft process was also marked by reports that he had aced the S2 test, as Brock Purdy had the process before. If everything clicks for Haener at the next level, he’s this process’ Purdy – they’re eerily similar.

Dynasty outlook: Like Purdy, Haener profiles as a caretaker who could produce in ideal circumstances if surrounded by elite skill players.
