News and notes:
Andres Munoz is expected to throw a bullpen session on Friday and could face live hitters on Monday. If all goes well, he could begin a rehab assignment later next week. In the meantime, Sewald is 9-for-9 in save chances this season.
Fairbanks was placed on the IL with forearm inflammation, meaning Adam should take a more clear hold on the Rays’ closer situation while he is sidelined.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Smith will get the majority of the save chances moving forward. That had been the case for the last couple of weeks or so prior to the official announcement. He should be rostered in traditional fantasy leagues.
Holmes remains the closer in the Yankees bullpen for now, but Michael King is a name to monitor. He has two saves in the last week.
Liam Hendriks is on a rehab assignment. He should be on track to return to the White Sox bullpen in the next couple of weeks or so. In the meantime, Keynan Middleton notched the last save for the White Sox but it’s too soon to name him the surefire closer.
