Dynasty Rookie Mock Draft: Superflex, PPR (2023 Fantasy Football)

Dynasty Rookie Mock Draft: Superflex, PPR (2023 Fantasy Football)

Quarterbacks are king in superflex and 2QB leagues. They score more points, on average, than other position groups, making it advantageous to slot one in as your superflex rather than, say, an RB3 or WR3.

Now let’s throw in the wrinkle of building a team in a dynasty league. How many people traded Patrick Mahomes for pennies in 2017 in a moment of irreconcilable haste as he sat squarely as the Chiefs’ backup for 15 weeks? I bet there were a few.

Finding a diamond in the rough at running back, wide receiver, or tight end isn’t uncommon. Guys who get drafted in Rounds four and later get chances all the time. Quarterbacks, however, are a different story. There’s only one on the field at a time. Teams don’t plan to rotate quarterbacks during the game, much to Matt Rhule’s dismay.

Including the 2013 draft class, here’s a list of fourth-round-or-later QB’s since then who’ve started more than four games in a row:

That’s seven players out of 61 quarterbacks selected in Rounds 4-7 since 2013.

We’re going to be taking long, hard looks at where the quarterbacks fall in this mock draft because even if our current QB situation seems stable, we don’t want to be playing catch-up at the most important position in this league’s format.

Unlike my last mock draft, we were dealt pick number one here. So our team probably stinks. Let’s see what we can cook up.

Pick 1.01: Bijan Robinson (RB – ATL)

All that preamble about drafting a QB early and we go Bijan. Hey, we got dealt pick one, and this one’s pretty chalk. Robinson is an electric talent who should be providing steady fantasy value for years to come. Had I been dealt a selection other than pick one, I’m taking a QB.

Pick 2.01: Will Levis (QB – TEN)

Dalton Kincaid was available here, and I wouldn’t fault you for selecting him. However, we have Bijan already, I can live with Levis living on our bench for a minute. He’s mobile enough and has a big arm. He’ll get a chance to start. If he doesn’t work out, sure, that’s a bummer, but again, we already have Bijan from this draft. The rest of this thing is house money.

Pick 3.01: Hendon Hooker (QB – DET)

In each of the last five drafts, a quarterback who’s started the majority of a team’s season has come out of the second or third round. We’re upping our odds we find a viable quarterback in this draft by doubling down and snagging Hooker. I’d be shocked if Levis or he were not named their team’s starter in the next season or two.

Pick 4.01: Michael Wilson (WR – ARI)

I sung Wilson’s praises in my last mock draft, but I will reiterate – he is going to make it very difficult for a quarterback to NOT give him regular targets. Wilson simply looks polished. No, he’s not supremely athletic and he doesn’t burst off your screen with insane speed. That’s why he’s a fourth-round rookie dynasty pick. However, he’s a reliable player in a pass-happy offense.
