Undervalued Rookies to Target in Dynasty League Drafts

1. Who is an undervalued rookie RB based on early rookie rankings that you’ll be targeting in dynasty drafts and why?

Chase Brown (RB – CIN)
“Chase Brown could have a serious role in the high-powered Bengals offense. He’s going in the late 2nd or 3rd rounds of most rookie drafts and could be a steal. Even if the Bengals don’t cut or trade Mixon, he isn’t exactly the epitome of health. He’s missed plenty of time which would pave the way for Brown to see an increase in volume in an otherwise weak backfield.”
Andrew Hall (FantasyPros)

Chase Brown has been undervalued in recent dynasty drafts I’ve done. Joe Mixon seems to be on shaky ground with the Bengals, and his recent efficiency as both a runner and receiver has been uninspiring. Brown handled a gargantuan workload at the University of Illinois last season, averaging 27.3 carries a game and rushing for 1,643 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has 4.43 speed and a 9.80 relative athletic score on a 10-point scale, which ranks 36th out of 1,740 running backs to log a RAS score since 1987, according to RAS pioneer Kent Lee Platte. If Mixon were to get hurt, or if the Bengals were to tire of him, Brown could become the primary early-down back in a potent Cincinnati offense.”

Roschon Johnson (RB – CHI)
“Roschon Johnson would be the obvious answer, but his ADP is on the rise and is no longer considered undervalued, so I’ll go with Chase Brown instead. The rookie running back finished top five in the country in rushing and scrimmage yards in 2022. More importantly, Brown is replacing Samaje Perine, who signed with the Denver Broncos this offseason, as Joe Mixon’s handcuff. Last year the veteran running back averaged 18 touches and 22.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game in the two games without Mixon. Furthermore, the rookie could have some stand-alone value like Perine did last year. The veteran averaged 11.7 fantasy points per game over the final seven weeks last season.”

2. Who is an undervalued rookie WR based on early rookie rankings that you’ll be targeting in dynasty drafts and why?

Tyler Scott (WR – CHI)
“Tyler Scott of the Bears is someone I am trying to walk away from every draft with. The Bears added DJ Moore and have a solid two and three option in Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see the speedy Scott getting more routes than he’s currently projected to have as the season goes along. He’s a perfect taxi squad stash in the 4th round of your rookie drafts in case he carves out a role on this new-look Bears offense.”
Andrew Hall (FantasyPros)

Michael Wilson (WR – ARI)
“Michael Wilson only played six games last year but still had four touchdowns on only 26 receptions. Furthermore, Wilson led Stanford in receiving touchdowns despite missing half the season. While Arizona’s wide receiver room is crowded, things can change quickly. DeAndre Hopkins has been the subject of trade reports this offseason, while Marquise Brown is entering the last year of his contract. Rondale Moore still has some fans, but the receiver is limited to the slot. Meanwhile, Wilson could have a starting role as early as this season if the Cardinals trade away Hopkins. The former Stanford receiver is one of my favorite draft and stash rookies.”
Mike Fanelli (FantasyPros)

Michael Wilson is routinely sliding into the fourth round of superflex dynasty rookie drafts even though the Cardinals drafted him in the third round. Some caution is probably warranted with a receiver who played only 14 games at Stanford the last three years due to injuries, but Wilson has good size (6-1, 216) and exceptional athleticism (9.55 RAS). FantasyPros college football and NFL Draft analyst says Wilson’s route running was so sharp and his cuts so violent at the Senior Bowl that he was drawing “ahhs” from onlookers. I’m intrigued by what Wilson might be able to do in Arizona when he’s paired with Kyler Murray, particularly if the Cardinals soon part ways with WR DeAndre Hopkins.”
