Dynasty Wide Receiver Draft Picks & Trade Targets (2023 Fantasy Football)

Dynasty Wide Receiver Draft Picks & Trade Targets (2023 Fantasy Football)

In most fantasy leagues there are about 40 start-worthy receivers on any given week. The hard part is knowing who to start. In my opinion, I like having a few studs that I can set and forget. To do that, I generally end up trying to consolidate my roster as much as possible, using cheaper WRs as a trade chip to move up to a better one. Staying within the position tends to be easier in my experience. To do that, I need to acquire receivers of different values at all times. Here are some receivers I’m looking to add before the NFL draft begins.

Here are wide receivers to target via trades ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Chris Olave (WR – NO)

Chris Olave is currently WR11 in the latest Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR), making him a WR1 in dynasty. This might make it difficult to acquire him, but given the depth of the position, I’m doing whatever I can to try. I’d prefer combining multiple cheaper assets to trade up to Olave before the season starts. The Saints will be working with new QB Derek Carr and I think Olave will be in line for the biggest increase.

As a rookie, Olave didn’t disappoint but he didn’t exactly go crazy either. He finished as WR23 for the year and WR27 in points per game. I think that was his floor for fantasy as the offense should be better this year. Rookies sometimes take time to acclimate to the pros, and getting an upgrade at QB should help immensely as well. I’m very high on Olave’s prospects heading into 2023 and beyond, making him an easy target for me.

Cooper Kupp (WR – LAR)

Man, do you remember Cooper Kupp? He was a beast just a year ago. In some drafts, he was being considered in that top tier with Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase. That was before his season-ending ankle injury though. On top of that Kupp got another year older too. It’s not entirely impossible to think that the current Kupp manager might be ready to move on. This makes it a perfect time to strike and try to acquire Kupp. Maybe you can send a younger receiver like Michael Pittman and a rookie pick for Kupp. I’d be game for that no doubt.

DJ Moore (WR – CHI)

The monster trade of the offseason included the Bears trading back from the 1st pick to the 9th pick and adding a slew of assets to do so. The biggest asset is clearly DJ Moore who now goes to a team that could really use his talents in Chicago. Moore has been a bright spot on a dark team for a couple of years and could become the next Bears legend at wide receiver and he just turned 26. He and Justin Fields could be a terrific duo, both in the NFL and in fantasy. Because of that, I’m trying to add Moore everywhere I can because I want to be a part of this ride.

Michael Pittman (WR – IND)

I mentioned Pittman earlier as someone I’m willing to trade away to acquire a more valuable asset, but he’s also someone I’m trying to acquire. Pittman had a rough go in 2022 but all signs point to the Colts taking a new signal caller in the NFL draft. Obviously, a better QB should help raise the tide of the entire team which means big things could be in store for Pittman. The current Pittman manager might be on top of things and willing to wait it out, but they could be ready to move on to something they deem as more explosive as well. I’m fine breaking a bigger asset down to Pittman plus a piece depending on the price. I just don’t see his value going down in the next 12 months, making now a great time to add him.

Jameson Williams (WR – DET)

The Lions will be a fun team to watch this year and Jameson Williams should be a large part of that. Williams had a disappointing 2022 due to his ACL injury at the end of his college career. He started slow because he was rehabbing the injury, but once he got on the field he showed everyone why the Lions drafted him. Williams spent a lot of the year on dynasty manager’s injured reserve so maybe his current manager is ready to move on. It’s definitely worth a look to see what they’re looking for in return. It might be cheaper than you think.

George Pickens (WR – PIT)

George Pickens had a few amazing catches but otherwise, his 2022 was a little underwhelming. He finished as WR30 overall and WR37 in points per game which likely frustrated his manager to no end. I think both he and his QB Kenny Pickett take a big step forward this year making Pickens a great buy-low option. It’s probably going to cost a 1st round rookie pick, but depending on how the draft goes that might not be all that expensive if you can get him for a late 1st. If you’re on the clock at 1.11 that’s the perfect time to send an offer. Pickens is very talented, don’t let his rookie season turn you off, especially if you can acquire him at a discount right now.
